Let's see Michael Richards get out of a heckle as good as that.

I want that man back on! He should be presenting it.

I'm going to be contraversial and say: That study sounds like a load of shite. The vast majority of people that I meet seem to be disgruntled and worried be it about house prices, cost of living, government scandals, anti-social behavious becoming the norm. That said, it is monday morning and no city on earth can make that better. Except Rome.

Funny.

The country's combination of increasing wealth and traditional values gives it the conditions most likely to make its people happy, the survey found.

Traditional values? Not so far as I'm aware. The increasing wealth seems to be divisive more than anything else. Fuck's sake I appear to be channelling K3v1n My3rs!

mmmmbollocks. the cost of living is ridiculous here compared to what i've seen in other european countries eg. holland. the gap between poor and rich is clearly visible esp. in someplace like limerick which has areas which are pretty much a war zone.

limerick which has areas which are pretty much a war zone.

Ah headline-speak... Even though I agree with you I find that statement a bit much for an estate that had a brief flare which unfairly became THE WORST PLACE IN IRELAND AND THE CAUSE OF ALL OUR SOCIAL ILLS tm. Limerick is no worse than Cork or Dublin, it's just an easier target.

I wonder whether our high cost of living is due to a low-ish tax rate? As in the government has to make up the shortfall from somewhere (Please to note that I am not supporting FF here, just wondering is all)

Actually I don't agree with you. Stupid lack of edit button and changing mind halfway through sentence!

kv_nol (kv_nol), Tuesday, 5 December 2006 09:27 (seventeen years ago) link

its not just that particular estate though, theres quite a few. im sure theres parts of tallaght and areas in cork that are probably as bad but even the 'limerick aint all that bad' naysayers are throwing their hands in the air at this point. it has gone way out of hand.

Line them up to be shot say I.

But seriously folks, Limerick (and this comes from a total and complete snob of the highest order [and a southsoide Dub to boot]) isn't as bad as they say! I've heard only good things recently. I genuinely believe that future hotspots for trouble will move into the midlands away from Cork, Dublin and Limerick. The government will find it cheaper to build houses there and we've seen over the years how well they plan ahead when they move people far away from available jobs and support networks.

Longford for 2016!
