Hastings is next to Garden Grove, right?

I Am Curious (George) (Slight Return) (Rock Hardy), Tuesday, 15 August 2006 16:38 (eighteen years ago) link

In the psychogeographic sense, yes.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Tuesday, 15 August 2006 16:42 (eighteen years ago) link

Also close to Cottage Grove, in the looking at a map sense.

I'm going to Hastings tonight...

I lost so much stuff in the neighbor's sandbox. When they went on vacation I dug the whole thing up and recovered about dozen Matchbox cars, a sandal, and Hammerhead.

I hope this isn't going to be like that.

It's funny how FB's name is different in this parallel world. My name is the same, but I'm taller.

Tonight and forever
Be watching over you.

So sleep, little darling, sleep on through.

I will be watching over you.

Sara Robinson-Coolidge (Sara R-C), Thursday, 31 August 2006 22:30 (eighteen years ago) link

Well, I've never heard of a deerhouse, so I'm assuming it's a dog.

This new Hastings thread doesn't have the ZING of the old ones.

WE CAN REBUILD IT. WE CAN MAKE IT STRONGER, MORE OBSCURE AND OBLIQUE, MORE NEEDLESSLY WORDY.

John Justen wants to hit you in the head with a pipewrench. (John Justen), Friday, 1 September 2006 16:25 (eighteen years ago) link

I want to believe.

Sara Robinson-Coolidge (Sara R-C), Friday, 1 September 2006 17:05 (eighteen years ago) link

Okay, a random recollection that I'm sure none of you have heard. I think we all remember a large family whose oldest daughter was a close friend of mine. When we were in high school, her mother was pregnant... again. I had to talk D34n out of leaving a box of condoms on their doorstep on Christmas morning with a note saying they were "from God."

In retrospect, I kind of think we should have sent the package...

Sara Robinson-Coolidge (Sara R-C), Friday, 1 September 2006 17:31 (eighteen years ago) link

The c/d VHS tape thread reminded me of the thrill of finally getting a VHS recorder after having spent 1978 to 1990 with two Betamax VCRs. (Sure, buying Betamax looked like a good idea in the 70s, but when Dad replaced it in the mid-80s, it was already clear that Betamax was dead).

Also, that original 70s era Betamax is STILL in one of my parents' storage area. (The deer head that called "Wally" that freaked my sister out all the time is stored separately).

Sara Robinson-Coolidge (Sara R-C), Friday, 1 September 2006 20:37 (eighteen years ago) link

Tonight, we shall celebrate the majesty of HSTYNGS with a clambake. Afterwards, we will drink until we are imobilized. In these ways, we acknowledge our history and heritage.

Also Old-ILX is currently up. Not sure if using the "search" function is still a potential disaster.

Sara Robinson-Coolidge (Sara R-C), Saturday, 2 September 2006 16:21 (eighteen years ago) link

Never hold yourself back on my account...

WHERE IS EVERYONE ELSE, BTW, WTF?

Not that I'm complaining, but this could be retitled the "Sara and John chatroom" thread.

xpost: WAHT?

John Justen wants to hit you in the head with a pipewrench. (John Justen), Saturday, 2 September 2006 16:22 (eighteen years ago) link

I know. Our chats are just not the same without the possibility that one of us might spontaneously strangle the other one.

Everyone else: clearly off dressing for dinner. I might be, too, if I wasn't putting off my 5 miles on the treadmill...

(Also, I have revived the Old-ILX Hastings thread, without using ILX search. Go me!)

Sadly, yes. Andrew can't get to the server right now for some reason, so they aren't sure when it will be up.

(And just when I had a new "Jane" story to relate, too!)

But I'm glad to see I'm not the only one who has come out of the requisite turkey-induced coma.

John Justen wants to hit you in the head with a pipewrench. (John Justen), Friday, 24 November 2006 19:04 (eighteen years ago) link

I am "at work," but I'm reading the new Subgenius book instead of "working," and in a little while I am going to give blood.

I Am Curious (George) (Slight Return) (Rock Hardy), Friday, 24 November 2006 19:08 (eighteen years ago) link

(xpost) Ah, well, retail; that is the nature of the beast. It's not that you're dumb, it's just how that works. (I did it myself for years, plus my Dad and brother are still into it with the liquor stores. This is a crazy season for that business).

I'm cheating here by not actually having a job, aren't I. I'm going to make a Tollhouse Pie for tomorrow's Thanksgiving with friends. And we're all going to see the NAG production of Beauty and the Beast tonight, because our friend is in it.

Less fun: I am trying to gather up all the non-working electronics in the house and put them in a box in the garage. Blah.

Sara Robinson-Coolidge (Sara R-C), Friday, 24 November 2006 19:12 (eighteen years ago) link

How is the new SubG book? Also, is this an advance copy or something, or have I simply not been paying attention again?

John Justen wants to hit you in the head with a pipewrench. (John Justen), Friday, 24 November 2006 19:23 (eighteen years ago) link

Yeah, that's the one. It's pretty gott-verdammt funny, more roffles per square inch than previous books.

I finally realized that Rev. Susie the Floozy is Susan Barrows, who used to be an OHMYGOD hottie back in the late 70s/early 80s and roughly forced hundreds of young boychildren to confront their own onrushing puberty at several Atlanta Fantasy Fairs, simply by wearing a Phoenix costume and telling dirty jokes.

Ms Misery (MsMisery), Friday, 24 November 2006 21:07 (eighteen years ago) link

Yay Sam - your motivation!

My pie is cooling; I'm done with walking on the treadmill. I'm not done watching Hitch. I realize I don't go to the movies often these days, but since when is a romantic comedy almost 3 hours long?!

Sara Robinson-Coolidge (Sara R-C), Friday, 24 November 2006 21:32 (eighteen years ago) link

Whew, I misread that; it is only almost 2 hours long. That makes more sense.

Sara Robinson-Coolidge (Sara R-C), Friday, 24 November 2006 21:34 (eighteen years ago) link

That means it is almost 2 hours TOO long.

John Justen wants to hit you in the head with a pipewrench. (John Justen), Friday, 24 November 2006 21:48 (eighteen years ago) link

Nah, it's kind of cute. Plus, my other choices were not inspiring and walking on the treadmill requires distraction. Untold Scandal was good, but not to the level of Dangerous Liaisons, plus it was kind of depressing.

I'd ask what you'd recommend, but I'm kind of afraid to hear the answer.

Everyone who listens to music: Get Koss In-Ear headphones

Moisture G Mess (The GZeus), Saturday, 17 February 2007 02:40 (seventeen years ago) link

In-Ear? Are they like those little earpieces that came with my iPod?

I have spent an inordinate amount of time on the checkbooks for my Dad's stores this weekend. Every time I close my eyes I see numbers swimming there. Two down, one to go.

Sara Robinson-Coolidge (Sara R-C), Monday, 19 February 2007 00:54 (seventeen years ago) link

Hey guys, I'm awesome!

(I don't think Sara has seen this yet.)

Jesus Dan (dan perry), Monday, 19 February 2007 01:17 (seventeen years ago) link

Han, the iPod ones are earbuds.
the Loss ones are like foam earplugs.
The only problems I've found are they make it blatantly obvious if one ear is different from the other and they're LOUD.

Moisture G Mess (The GZeus), Monday, 19 February 2007 01:22 (seventeen years ago) link

deX, I saw that! I immediately thought, "if I had seen that out of context, I TOTALLY would have recognized Dan via the spelling of 'deX!'" Totally hilarious.

Earbuds! That is the word I was searching for.
It is the loudness factor that makes me nervous with the "in ear" thing; I'd like to be able to hear still when I'm 65...

Sara Robinson-Coolidge (Sara R-C), Monday, 19 February 2007 01:44 (seventeen years ago) link

By loud I mean "your volume control won't get above 3/10."

My dad's been sneaking smokes in the garage.
I stole all his matches and threw away the old aluminium can.
Now we wait to see if he says anything.

Aside from working all weekend on a test and on these insufferable checkbook registers, yesterday I made White Russian cupcakes. The batter was really runny and there was more than I needed for 24 cupcakes, so I persuaded A. to make a few White Russian cupcake pancakes. Verdict: pretty good.

"WHAT DO WE SOUND LIKE" doesn't exist on sandboxes, to my knowledge, but some of you might enjoy this.
Opossum is the most accessable, as it's intentionally melodic.

How do you think the guy who wrote the song used in Trojan commericals feels?
