Lance Rock (pullapartgirl), Thursday, 30 November 2006 15:18 (seventeen years ago) link

Tremors is absolutely one of my favorite movies. Any time I am flipping through channels and find it on TBS etc*, I like have to watch it. GRABOIDS!

*the TBS/USA/etc cable network versions might even be more fun, as they have some hilarious edits..."What the shit?" once became "What the stuff?".

drunk Friendster massage (nklshs), Thursday, 30 November 2006 15:28 (seventeen years ago) link

Braindead (Dead Alive in the US) is one of my favourite movies full stop.

Heresy! Recant! Grease II is actually the best favorite movie.

My worst favorite movie is Richard O'Brien's 'Shock Treatment.'

what in the hell is that?!

Ms Misery (MsMisery), Thursday, 30 November 2006 19:05 (seventeen years ago) link

When some wild-eyed, eight-foot-tall maniac grabs your neck, taps the back of your favorite head up against the barroom wall, looks you crooked in the eye and asks you if ya paid your dues, you just stare that big sucker right back in the eye, and you remember what ol' Jack Burton always says at a time like that: "Have ya paid your dues, Jack?" Yessir, the check is in the mail.

Heresy! Recant! Grease II is actually the best favorite movie.

Well I agree, but most people seem to trash it, which is why I put it here. Maybe I misunderstood the meaning of worst favorite.

Sébastien (LeRoo), Thursday, 30 November 2006 19:33 (seventeen years ago) link

Well I guess Showgirls and Mommie Dearest, obviously.

Or maybe Parenthood.

Eric H. (Eric H.), Thursday, 30 November 2006 19:42 (seventeen years ago) link

Big Trouble in Little China, Tremors and Braindead are the best movies of all time. There is absolutely nothing wrong with any of them.

Also - BIG.

wogan lenin (doglatin), Thursday, 30 November 2006 20:20 (seventeen years ago) link

Wait, what? Big is great! I won't have it.

Grease II is dreadful. Don't think you're going to sucker me into reassessing it just because you guys say it's cool all of a sudden. That dude from the Colbys never did anything cool.

accentmonkey (accentmonkey), Thursday, 30 November 2006 20:24 (seventeen years ago) link

Eric, you've said you love Showgirls for the masterwork that it is, not for badness. Be consistent.

Dr M (Dr Morbius), Thursday, 30 November 2006 20:45 (seventeen years ago) link

(x-post)
It's not all of a sudden, I've always liked it. Grease II is only missing one big number to be as good as the first one. "Back To School", "Cool Rider", "Girl For All Seasons", "Let's Score Tonight", "Who's That Guy?" are all great. And the dude from The Colbys was hot!

Sébastien (LeRoo), Thursday, 30 November 2006 21:34 (seventeen years ago) link

That's sort of why I added the "I guess." I don't think it's bad. Or, rather, it's bad in the best possible way. Parenthood, on the other hand, is pretty awful in a lot of ways, yet still good in spite of it.

Nothing confuses me more sometimes than bad/good. Bad to me is Little Children or other movies without mise-en-scene.

Eric H. (Eric H.), Thursday, 30 November 2006 21:44 (seventeen years ago) link

- Ladyhawke seconded
- Tremors too, but yeah, it's pretty awesome in the first place
- Fifth Element
- Pitch Black / Chronicles of Riddick
- well, most movies involving space + action/guns/fighting (b/c really there are only a handful of truly good ones, right? the bad ones just help us get through until a good one comes around again. which reminds me of when alien3 came out and how my hopes were dashed. and then alien4 hurt me in my heart.)
- Explorers, when i was a kid. well, a huge bunch of terrible sunday-afternoon-on-local-programming movies fall into that category...
- a bunch of half-assed romantic comedies and period pieces that have really made me question the love/hate dichotomy (how can i love and hate so much at the same time?? quantum mechanics can probably explain) e.g., my best friend's wedding, truth about cats and dogs, emma, pride and prejudice, garden state, the notebook, etc etc

It's by no means a favorite, but I feel compelled to mention that I watched teh Butterfly Effect: Director's Cut last night. Because of you people.

JordanC (JordanC), Thursday, 30 November 2006 23:00 (seventeen years ago) link

Hmmm. Got a few years?

Ned Raggett (Ned), Thursday, 30 November 2006 23:07 (seventeen years ago) link

Fifth Element is a good nominee. Actually I just like Milla's bandaid costume.

I have an awesome Playboy from the time Zardoz came out w/photo stills of all the spicy scenes. I haven't seen Zardoz yet, but I get the feeling I've already experienced the best parts. My favorite picture is a bunch of naked ladies in a field of cartoon moshrooms raising their hands in 'help me you are my master' fashion.

No way! He was so awful, we used to call him Slime instead of Miles.

But Tremors is serious social allegory.

zuh? kevin bacon has funny hair.

teh_kit (g-kit), Friday, 1 December 2006 10:27 (seventeen years ago) link

The hair is a metaphysical representation of Mother Earth.

jel -- (jel), Friday, 1 December 2006 10:29 (seventeen years ago) link

In Hollow Man, he has invisible hair.

teh_kit (g-kit), Friday, 1 December 2006 10:30 (seventeen years ago) link

There's a scene in Hollow Man when he kisses a girl, while invisible. Obviously, you the viewer can't see him, you just see the pressure on her lips, like, but that scene really disturbed me; I was convinced for about 5 seconds that he had just rubbed his cock on her face.

teh_kit (g-kit), Friday, 1 December 2006 10:32 (seventeen years ago) link

Kevin Bacon has had a varied career.

If we are talking worst favourite films, then I must mention the remake of the Wicker Man again.

jel -- (jel), Friday, 1 December 2006 10:35 (seventeen years ago) link

Kevin Bacon = varied career, but SAME HAIR.
