I think I have Carpal Tunnel

I work at a computer terminal 8 hours a day and spend the majority of my off time working on school assignments and farting about on ILX. In other words, way too much time on keyboards for hours and hours at a time.

Suddenly, in the last week or so, the right side of the back of my right hand is sore almost any time I type, and if I type for extended periods of time my entire right arm begins to hurt.

Do I have Carpal Tunnel? What can be done besides pain killers?

The first symptoms of CTS may appear when trying to sleep.[2] Symptoms include paresthesia (a burning and tingling in the fingers, especially of the thumb and index and middle fingers), numbness, difficulty gripping and making a fist, dropping objects, and weakness. If left untreated the symptoms may progress, and increasing pain and weakness can further restrict hand function. In the early stages of CTS, individuals often mistakenly blame the tingling and numbness on their sleeping position, thinking their hands have had restricted circulation and are simply "falling asleep". It is important to note that unless numbness or paresthesia are some of the predominant symptoms, it is unlikely the symptoms are primarily caused by carpal tunnel syndrome. In effect, pain of any type, location, or severity with the absence of significant numbness or paresthesia, is not likely to fall under this diagnosis.

Last week I had killer hand cramps from playing guitar. I mostly just took a break from playing and massaged/stretched the sore spots.

Repetitive Stress Injury From Masturbation

Case Study #9789
Date: 12/10/2001

I speak on the behalf of my younger sister. She is in high school now, her sophomore year, and is currently 16. She is still a virgin (or so she tells me), but her clitoral orgasm seems to be weak, if she is even achieving one. She describes it as being just one small moment that is almost a sharp pain, and then it disappears. She has told me that she thinks it should feel much better and longer than this. When she reaches her "orgasm," she is pressing down on the edge of a chair and moving back and forth to stimulate her clitoris. Thinking that I could help her, she told me two years ago she used to masturbate quite often, and maybe she damaged her clitoris with too much pressure. Is there a problem or is she just not fully mature? Thank you for your time, and any feedback would be appreciated.

Dr Lin’s Response:

Yes, she has damaged her clitoris. Here is a real story associated with female over masturbation that happened in Fort Lauderdale, Florida, about 20 miles from my office.
A Phone-sex operator filed a workers' compensation claim and won her claim in court two years ago because her job - masturbating while on the phone, let her develop Repetitive Stress Injury (RSI) in her clitoris and G-spot. She claimed she experienced at least 7 orgasms every day with a powerful vibrator or double-stimulating dildo.

Your sister is too young to have over masturbation since her clitoral and G-spot nerves and tissues are extremely tender. Obviously RSI gives her a sharp pain, rather than pleasure. This means the nervous endings have been damaged. She is too young to take EvaMax V for nervous repair.

My advice is: Give her clitoris (or/and vagina) several weeks to rest so the nerves can heal. After that, don't masturbate more than once every other day.

I've reread that "My advice is:" paragraph about eight times now and I misread it every single time.

Not Carpal, but fuck my wrist hurts from knitting (and previously also not holding Ophelia's head right when breastfeeding).

I got tested for Carpathian Tunnel once. Doctor stuck needles in my hand and hit me with the electric shocks. Sometimes, my left hand crunches up into a crampy ball and it takes me a couple of minutes to unwrap it. Apparently I don't have Cartesian Tunnel Simdrum tho.

My right wrist starting hurting badly after a stressful couple of weeks at work last year, in which I spent far too long on the computer doing a lot of very repetitive typing and data entry stuff. It was agony. I bought one of those elasticated wrist supports, used a gel-filled wrist rest in front of the keyboard and on the mouse, did crazy physiotherapy wrist exercises, took Ibuprofen, and massaged in Ibuprofen gel as well. It got better quite quickly, but it was scary while it was happening.

Keyboard SNES emulation fucked my wrists.

You should put that on a T-shirt.

I must be severely lucky to have lasted as long as I have without experiencing any serious repetitive stress injury. It must be because I tend to shift my typing posture around quite a lot. Anyone having real problems with RSI should consider one of those ergonomic split keyboards. I've met a few IT professionals who've suffered badly from RSI and claim the split keyboard is something of a miracle cure. Also I've heard people mention some sort of elasticated gloves which exercise muscles seldom used in your hands/wrists that is supposed to alleviate the pain quite quickly.

I've been gaming every day since i was like 6, I think I've been amazingly lucky not to suffer anything like this yet. I do worry about it an awful lot, though.
