This looks like trolling, but I swear it's not. What's the appeal with these books? To mee it seems that they're so clotted and endless and full of descriptions of soft furnishings, and hundreds of pages passing by with nothing happening. I genuinely want to know what has you hooked, as I'm obviously missing something.

i love soft furnishings, tbh

story moves along pretty nicely for first 5 books, tbh and imo it's a pretty ripping yarn if one's inclined towards fantasy at all.

once you;ve gone that far, you'll put up with the plot sluggishness of the next 4 or 5 in order for the payoff, which has been coming thick and fast the last two or three books.

its kind of a long post, i think, but what makes jordan in partic unique is that he married the epic sweep and mythohistoric grandeur of tolkien with a rationalist take on world-building. also i think the way his series developed w/ and was influenced by the internet makes his plotting really interesting - i think its density and complexity was sorta impt in 'the genre' and also a big draw for many readers

i mean there are a bunch of things that make jordan in partic interesting as an e.g. of 'epic fantasy' and then there are things that the genre itself does that attract readers and i can blah blah blah abt all of this so idk
