While the edifice of Good Taste may from time to time undergo rennovations, the better to suit it to the Times and Manners of the Nation, one must admit that a modicum of Capitalisation, judiciously applied, assists the Reader, by alerting him to the Presence of Distinctions that might otherwise be overlooked in his haste to quickly encompass the Author's Thought.

Less tongue-in-cheekly: getting rid of capitalisation altogether seems more geared to the convenience of the writer than the reader. But a writer who is privileging his own convenience over the person who has to read their stuff is going about it ass-backwards. Unless it's a grocery list or class notes, and the reader is also the writer.

i would agree with your conclusion but not your thesis- the inherent value to the reader of capitalisation escapes me.

It's slightly less important than punctuation and paragraphing as a reading aid, but just like ALL CAPS are a strain to read, if you tried to read a book all in lowercase eventually you'd notice a similar strain.

less eyejumping imo

when absorbing ilx-stylee mini-thoughts, maybe so. but in anything that extends for more than a couple of paragraphs, it's a help

I think readers would get used quickly to this improved democratic orthography. I bet there are studies showing how much time is wasted by people worldwide trying to find the stupid key that does the capitalization stuff. Time wasted and time is money and all that stuff that speaks the language of late capitalism that we can subvert to suit lazy-radical interests.
