Hoping for 19-0, obviously, but I'll be happy as long as they win their last game. A week 17 loss to the Lions in particular wouldn't shock me at all (I don't think everyone will get the week off, but I don't think it's a game they're necessarily going to go out of their way to win, you know?).

my personal opinion is that they should lose on purpose between now and week 17. learn from the mistake the Patriots made, eliminate that 'pressure'!

I do find it funny, too, how many sportswriters were talking about how the Patriots should try for 16-0 back in 2007, because even if they lost the Super Bowl, it would be a first, and everyone would still be talking about it.

When in reality, all anybody talks about is how the Giants punked them in the Super Bowl, and nobody really cares about their regular season that much anymore. They may have been the best lineup assembled in the post-salary cap era, but nobody cares cuz they didn't win it all!

I'm kinda hoping for the Packers to win the SB because they'd be the first repeat champs in 7 years, people would stfu about the Steelers being the current dynasty, and LOL BRETT FAVRE HOW U FEEL NOW. Plus I think Aaron Rodgers is God.

this green bay team is better than the pats 18-1 team, if not quite as spectacular. there were several games in the regular season where you could see how ne could be beaten, and they should’ve lost to baltimore and probably to the giants (altho they were the better team in the super bowl rematch so nyg got the better of that switcharound). by contrast, green bay do not seem fallible in the same way. there are no obvious keys to stopping their offense and altho this seems impossible what with coach bill b being the best coach eva of all time, green bay manages their games better than ne did/do. the giants provided the biggest test for green bay this year and there was really no indication that green bay wouldn’t just score again as often as they had to. they look like a better version of the colts for the couple of years the colts were really good. and truth is, piety was obv better than brady then, and rodgers is obviously better than brady now. but brady is better looking.

desperately want a pack pats super bowl. i think ne could use the rare experience of being clear underdog and channel the spirit of the first championship team. i think baltimore’s defense at maximum craziness could disrupt anyone, but i would hate to have my life depend on the ravens pulling everything together for any given game. think the pack are gonna roll tbh.

IMO its probably going to come down to a bizarro Week 17 where the Packers might pull starters (especially vs. a team that's not really afraid to take fines) against a team that needs a win to grab the 2nd wildcard spot over Dallas.

what would really be top top top entertainment is if Matt Flynn and a suddenly resurgent defense somehow lead the team to another Super Bowl victory, and Flynn winds up getting a Kevin Kolb-like contract for the Seahawks and never has a winning season ever again

The Packers are almost as good offensively but the 2007 Patriots set a record for points in a 16 game season, and the Patriots were a top 5 defense whereas the Packers is more a bend but don't break that gives up a lot of points.

Their offense is good enough that it doesn't matter and they're not an example of say the 2000 Rams, but 13-0...lest we remember that of the last 4 teams to start a season 13-0, only one won a super bowl (the Saints in 2009)

lol yea I guess I understated a bit. it's more like they give up points in droves, but they're not quite as porous as say the aforementioned 2000 Rams who gave up 30+ points a game.

still, you have to be nervous as a Packers fan going into the playoffs. just takes one 'off' game for them to go home.

yeah I'm a packers fan but I'm pretty concerned about that off game. if I had to put money on it I think I would bet 'undefeated reg season, doesn't win super bowl' which is a pretty sour season, but from a purely statistical pov probably the scenario w/ the greatest % chance of happening.

'defense wins championships' is bunk...but having a defense helps on off days, which every team has.

well the pure 'defense wins championships' mantra in the sense of 'dominant defenses trump dominant offenses' made more sense in the early 00s when only about 5-6 teams had elite QBs and everybody and their grandma had a ball control offense.

I have been a Packer fan for like 15 years and I am from California! We got to pick and choose when the Rams and Raiders decided they did not want to play in Southern California anymore; at this point I think probably most people in LA/Orange/Riverside/SB counties have fallen in with either the Chargers or Raiders, but I've known a handful of other Packer fans, plus Bears, Vikings, Steelers, Niners, and Cowboys people, and a shitload of traditional SoCal fairweather fans and obviously a ton of people who don't really give a shit about anything other than the Lakers.

And I have been on a plane for the past two hours but I feel the need to say that I think it's basically possible to frustrate the offense with an effective front line (to stifle the run game and create enough pressure on Rodgers without needing to constantly pull guys out of coverage); a bunch of teams (most recently NYG) have done this for a while until the offense adjusted. It'd help if you get some drops and especially some flukey tip interceptions, also, but a special-teams play or two would probably do the same work to create extra points. The defense is beatable; generally either they're susceptible to deep passes or they're so worried about deep passes they'll play off receivers a little bit and allow for more sustained drives. It's obviously difficult to beat them this year but I think that if a couple of plays end up going a different way they could have lost to the Saints, the Giants, or the Chargers, and they might have been in more trouble against the Lions until the Lions beat themselves.

Sun-Sentinel did a story recently about how many of the 72 Dolphins team members are rooting for the Packers to go undefeated. I'm a Dolphins fan, but I want Green Bay to go undefeated, too. Something likeable about this team.

I don't think they will, BTW. Defense looks vulnerable (gives up to many points).

this is exactly what I'm arguing against. the 07 Pats didn't lose because they had a target on their back. they lost b/c the Giants defense was playing at a really high level and were able to harass Brady. also Asante Samuel dropped an easy pick late in the game that would have sealed it (plus, the whole helmet catch thing). that game was suuuuper close and was really one 'break' away from resulting in the perfect Pats season. same with the Packers. if they lose it's not because they "feel the pressure", it'll be because they got outscored, didn't get good breaks, etc. etc.

not sure who's going to stop the offense at this point - they average 33 points a game and that includes several games where they simply stopped trying to score after a certain point. best way to beat them is to just outscore them, which the Pats/Saints/Giants could probably do

the Giants defense was playing at a really high level, but Brady's body was also worn the fuck out from hits in the Chargers game, as well as hits over the body of the season. and players were hitting him after the whistle cuz he was the teams lifeblood.

But in that Super Bowl, one constant was that everybody talked about how for three quarters, the Patriots didn't look like the Patriots. Yes, much of that was the Giants pass rush disrupting their timing, but even when the line was holding, the team wasn't gelling. They looked in their 'head', at least to me.

As far as "Who's gonna stop the offense", they said the same thing about the Pats in 2007...I mean ffs, they scored 589 points that year. Nothing anybody threw at them was working. Brady threw 50 TDs. and yet...the Giants did it.

physicality has a way of slowing down any offense. all it takes is one bad night. hell, not even a bad night. This Packers team could score 24 and lose. unfortunately the Packers don't have a defense that can compensate for their offense taking a night off.

I still think they're a favorite, but they're arguably not even as good as the last four teams to start 13-0 (2009 Indy, 2005 Indy, 2007 New England, 2009 New Orleans), and only one of them won an SB (2005 Indy lost in the divisional round!)

i'll give them better than 2009 Indy, which was on Peyton's back mostly...

i do agree that they're not as good as the 07 Pats. but I would say they compare well to the other three.

i think in general the rest of the field is probably weaker than it's been for the last few years. Pats have an even worse defense then they have the last few years, Saints don't play well away from home, Steelers look unconvincing, Ravens seem handicapped by Joe Flacco, etc. etc.

Also, didn't the team and SC work out a plan so that if SC can't get a certain amount of funding, the team would step in cover the rest? (But yeah, I was pissed at the move, even though it puts them CLOSER to where I live.)

yeah the deal coulda been worse for SC as far as financing goes, but there still is some taxpayer money being spent along the way and in the long-run stadiums just aren't worth it for small towns. all this trouble so a buncha people to drive in 8 days a year? it's ultimately bizarre town-pride vanity thing. and iirc there are ways for the niners to get out of that guarantee w/ a future ownership or when they decide to move back to sf in 10 years when nobody wants to drive 50 miles to see a football game anymore. whereas hunter's point redevelopment coulda led to great things for the area, is on transit etc. etc.

TBF, there's transit to the SC location, but yeah, overall the deal's a stinker.
