so I finished the pajama pants this weekend. . .

They are a gift for my aunt and I used the pattern size large. They are HUGE, I mean clown pants. I don't know exactly how big she is but can use myself as rough guide. How can I alter them? Should I put them on, pin the waist/legs where I think they should be then rip the seams and re-stitch?

Eek! You could just give them as is with a little red nose in the box too? ;)

Seriously, that sounds like a good idea to alter them, but I have no clue. If there are no good answers in the next few hours, I'll pose the question to my mom tonight.

Err...do you have yr aunt's measurements? Does the waist fit as it is? I seem to remember that you didn't love the elastic-insertion part, so you probably don't want to rip out that far!

no, and I wanted to make this pattern for other people so was hoping to get a good general size. yeah the elastic casing bit sucked but I finally got it. The pattern was really huge though, the finished waistband must be about 40"!

I'm going to make another as size small and I have to I guess I could just remake hers. *sigh* i thought sewing presents might be quicker than knitting.

Also I dunno about you but I am always SHOCKED at how wide PJs have to be in order to be comfortable on me. I guess it makes sense, since they're not contoured at all and since one wants them a lot looser than, say, ass jeans.

But yes, on the whole, if there are no darts, the easiest thing to do is probably to rip out the outside seams, run a loose/basting stitch (or pin into place), and figure out how far in to move the seamline, then sew, hem, etc. Doing it to fit yourself and then giving them away sounds risky to me, though! Good luck.

This was brought up on the other thread, but to all New Yorkers, P&S fabrics is CLOSING. And they shall be having appropriate sales, too.

So, the Moms and I tried to sew a skirt this weekend out of a lovely red corduroy we picked up on sale. It turned out to be two-tone, as we cut the fabric incorrectly (i.e. not going the same way). Major bummer. Also, it was way too big on me. She tried altering it (as her skills are leaps and bounds above mine) and that's when we noticed the two-tone slightly hippy quality.

On the plus side, I got a dressmaker's ham on sale (with coupon) for $4!
