Maude

Detrius of Life (Eric H.), Thursday, 8 December 2011 18:57 (fourteen years ago)

Oh wait. Sorry. Force of habit.

Detrius of Life (Eric H.), Thursday, 8 December 2011 18:58 (fourteen years ago)

For some reason I remember Maude being on Tuesdays. Might be wrong.

From that group, The Jeffersons, though Valerie Bertinelli was a powerful early crush.

William (C), Thursday, 8 December 2011 19:06 (fourteen years ago)

Yep, it was. Just seeing all those Normal Lears in a row made my reflexes go off, tho.

Detrius of Life (Eric H.), Thursday, 8 December 2011 19:10 (fourteen years ago)

"The Jeffersons" for me.

Lord Sotosyn, Thursday, 8 December 2011 19:15 (fourteen years ago)

I could make an argument for any of these except for ABP

OH NOES, Thursday, 8 December 2011 19:16 (fourteen years ago)

Archie and Jeffersons tie

ᶘ ᵒᴥᵒᶅ (~curious orange~), Thursday, 8 December 2011 19:17 (fourteen years ago)

was ABP funny? As a kid it looked lugubrious and grey: Arch sitting at a counter, not smiling.

Lord Sotosyn, Thursday, 8 December 2011 19:19 (fourteen years ago)

AITF kinda the same way, to me anyway.

Detrius of Life (Eric H.), Thursday, 8 December 2011 19:21 (fourteen years ago)

I think part of the problem was shifting Archie from the comedic center to being a straight man for other wacky characters. But I hardly ever watched ABP so my memory may be talking smack to me.

William (C), Thursday, 8 December 2011 19:28 (fourteen years ago)

this was not a classic period, but few here are old enough for CBS '72-78 Saturday.

Dr Morbius, Thursday, 8 December 2011 19:29 (fourteen years ago)

btw when you guys rep for The Jeffersons, I feel better about liking Amos & Andy.

Dr Morbius, Thursday, 8 December 2011 19:30 (fourteen years ago)

That was Carol Burnett's night, right? xp

William (C), Thursday, 8 December 2011 19:30 (fourteen years ago)

btw when you guys rep for The Jeffersons, I feel better about liking Amos & Andy.

love'em both but only one starred Marla Gibbs.

Lord Sotosyn, Thursday, 8 December 2011 19:31 (fourteen years ago)

at one point, Sat night was All in the Family-MASH-Mary-Newhart-Burnett, I think.

Dr Morbius, Thursday, 8 December 2011 19:37 (fourteen years ago)

Jeffersons could be pretty hard-nosed, tho.

Detrius of Life (Eric H.), Thursday, 8 December 2011 19:38 (fourteen years ago)

By the time I was old enough to watch TV these were all in reruns. I take back my ABP vote because while I liked it, I don't think I "got" 1/2 of it because I was too little. I guess that's true of most of these though. What the heck was I doing watching this adult stuff anyway?

ᶘ ᵒᴥᵒᶅ (~curious orange~), Thursday, 8 December 2011 19:39 (fourteen years ago)

wait what the shit was archie bunkers place?

PROVEN BY BOOZE SCIENCE, Thursday, 8 December 2011 21:14 (fourteen years ago)

AitF spin-off.

ᶘ ᵒᴥᵒᶅ (~curious orange~), Thursday, 8 December 2011 21:15 (fourteen years ago)

Though I don't think I've ever seen it and was thinking of AitF earlier.

ᶘ ᵒᴥᵒᶅ (~curious orange~), Thursday, 8 December 2011 21:20 (fourteen years ago)

never interested in any of these really but figured I would take this opportunity to get ILXs opinion on the crucial question of whether or not Sherman Helmsley is gay

Shakey Mo Collier, Thursday, 8 December 2011 21:24 (fourteen years ago)

i've seen a few jeffersons in reruns, but that's it

mookieproof, Thursday, 8 December 2011 21:25 (fourteen years ago)

sherman isnt gay, but weezy did kiss birdman so

PROVEN BY BOOZE SCIENCE, Thursday, 8 December 2011 21:26 (fourteen years ago)

Yeah, Jeffersons was a bit before my time. Sad to say, I've seen a lot more episodes of Amen than of Jeffersons.

o. nate, Thursday, 8 December 2011 21:27 (fourteen years ago)

have you ever watched a joke fall apart in front of your eyes and then realize with horror that it is your own joke

PROVEN BY BOOZE SCIENCE, Thursday, 8 December 2011 21:27 (fourteen years ago)

Sherman Hemsley is a self-proclaimed fan of '70s progressive rock including bands Gentle Giant and Nektar. On his appearance on The Dinah Shore Show, Hemsley performed a dance to the Gentle Giant song "Proclamation" from The Power and the Glory. After his dance, the host was laughing and asked what kind of music that was. Sherman then proceeded to give a 5-minute speech on Gentle Giant.[3] Sherman can also been seen wearing a Nektar T-shirt during his interview with Norman Lear when Lear hosted Saturday Night Live from Season 2 Episode 26.

cool!

good webinar (ha ha I'm having a fantasy), Thursday, 8 December 2011 21:34 (fourteen years ago)

I watched all of these when I was a kid, but the Jeffersons is the only one I still find funny.

Nicole, Thursday, 8 December 2011 21:55 (fourteen years ago)

I feel like Florence from the Jeffersons and Dee from What's Happening have made me what I am today.

Nicole, Thursday, 8 December 2011 21:57 (fourteen years ago)

I always looked forward to Paul Benedict's appearances so that George could slam the door on him.

Lord Sotosyn, Thursday, 8 December 2011 21:59 (fourteen years ago)

x-post - Dee!

Another vote for the classic 1973-1974 Saturday night lineup.

wang dang google doodle (James Redd), Monday, 19 December 2011 01:38 (fourteen years ago)

But not as much the later variants with Friend and Lovers between AitF and MTM and then The Jeffersons followed by Doc as the leadoff- I liked Barnard Hughes best as Bob Newhart's dad.

wang dang google doodle (James Redd), Monday, 19 December 2011 02:12 (fourteen years ago)

weird to think of any weekend evenings on tv having any sitcoms at all now.

akm, Monday, 19 December 2011 18:37 (fourteen years ago)

Kind of have to vote for The Jeffersons tbh.

C.K. Dexter Holland, Monday, 19 December 2011 18:38 (fourteen years ago)

higgs boson (the deli llama), Monday, 19 December 2011 23:39 (fourteen years ago)
