talk about when you stopped wearing white tube socks (the kind with grey at the heel and toe and that would get hopelessly stretched out by the third wearing, or maybe yours had yellow, or maybe they were pure white) and what it meant for you to stop doing so

these are the only kind of socks my parents ever bought for me growing up

at some point I realized these looked bad w/ dark shoes, and I only wear dark shoes, so I probably just didn't need to buy them anymore

I refuse to wear tube socks. My socks must be form-fitting, with a heel knitted in. Otherwise, yeah, still wear white sweat sox almost every day. I'm old. No one cares.

^^ This is assuming you're wearing pants long enough so that socks aren't visible. If they're visible they should prob match.

never wear these with dress/dark shoes but if I'm walking around in boots or my adidas (as I am prone to do when I am not at work) uh yeah I don't see what's wrong with these. they're comfortable

the thing is that in miami pretty much no one ever wears pants so i wore very little white tube socks anyway -- white low cut socks, maybe a diff story

low-cut white socks are on the same continuum

my biggest beef w/ these is how they're for shoe sizes "6-12" - and in like one month your no-shows become show all the time because they're so stretched out

they make cool athletic black socks now too

I literally have 2 pairs of socks and two drawers full of random unpaired socks. As a result my socks p much never ever match but I don't care because it's not like you can ever see them.

I should correct this -- my white socks have heels, none are tube socks. But as my daily knockaround shoes are white sneakers, my socks are generally white as well.

yeah it was definitely a kind of embarrassing lightbulb going off when i was 22 and working in an office for the first time, and like, i can just go to target and buy a bag off not-white socks for 9.99

Dude, I wore jumpsuits and pegged my jeans in middle school. I think you get a pass for that.

I also had a panda bear bolo tie that was my favorite accessory ever at the time so I think we can prob agree that middle school does not count.

Do ppl really care that much about socks? They're socks! Unless I know I'm going to be at a house/apt where someone has a 'shoes off' policy, my sock selection is dictated almost entirely by comfort & utility.

I should note that I wear jeans or slacks pretty much all the time & so my socks are almost always hidden from the world.

I was vehemently anti-sock for a long time, though, even in winter. Loafers w/o socks, that's where I was in the early '90s.

xp so what we're learning is that white socks are fine if you're pretty much the best dancer in the world.

A proper tight-roll should have the extra material folded inward across the lower shin. The use of safety pins was key to a good roll, but to the experienced tight roller they can be achieved without them.

IIRC, I wore white tube socks from childhood through college, but sometime in my early 20s I switched to nonwhite socks of various styles.

It should never come back.

I am proud to say I 100% bypassed wearing bell-bottoms in the 70s. My utter lack of fashion sense has saved me many similar embarassments.

OK, idk but depending on the specific colors you could prob do any other neutral color. Maybe not back (tho would still be better than white) but brown, khaki green, tan, navy etc.

Brown socks are surprisingly difficult to find around here! It's all white, black and dark blue.

I'm fairly certain that khaki green is not a color of sock available outside of like Bass Pro shops or whatever.

I still wear white athletic socks with sneakers most of the time. With dressier shoes I generally try to match the socks to the pants.

I only wear them when its cold outside and I'm wearing jeans that will totally cover them up.

I was walking around downtown after my last post trying to see what people do in real life. It's kinda hard to catch a glimpse of calf on a dc street in the fall. Results inconclusive.
