Describe/show everybody five things (ie artworks, pictures, posters, whatever) currently on your walls...

ie for me

1. Theodore Roussel's 'Reading Nude'

2. Myrna Loy & William Powell as Nick & Nora Charles, & Asta the Wonder Dog
http://morestatelymansions.files.wordpress.com/2011/07/thin-man12.jpg

3. & 4. Some great blown-up illustrations from old kids' books, one of a sloth and one of a cat in the clothes of a Jamaican witch (I can't find them online now, but I know I nicked them both from here-- http://theanimalarium.blogspot.com/)

5. This poster: http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_yg0wzuV8KA0/SZ9oOOCYk8I/AAAAAAAADFA/-132xXUcI84/s400/lf_005.jpg

i like your wall. I could describe what's on my wall?
I need to hang some more art. Maybe photos when i get home

1: a photo of dolly parton i kept from a magazine, inside a clipframe; I can't find the photo online, but it's her in the '70s, I guess, w/a headscarf. I never liked frames, & still don't like real frames, & it got pretty beat up being schlepped from one house to another, but it's taken on this great creased look around the edges that sorta suits it/Dolly's mystique

2: this image, which was the cover of an anthology film archives programme once when I lived nearby & was a member, in a clipframe also

3: a receipt for some aluminum foil I bought just before thanksgiving at C-TOWN in Astoria, near my best friend's place; her name begins with C, & I'd never been there before, & it was funny turning onto her road & seeing a huge C-TOWN sign. it is blu-tacked to my wall.

4: a postcard of abstraction blue by georgia o'keefe, propped up against the mantelpiece

http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_g11lVqerMcY/TN1An2HIIAI/AAAAAAAACb4/KR5qYk5Cm7g/s640/1abstrationblue.jpg

& 5: a veterans of disorder royal trux poster

http://www.dragcity.com/system/products/images/1447/large.jpg?1248502578

this is a great thread!, & will work well w/sandboxer tastes, as they are good at interiors iirc. i will bump it sometime in the future because i generally do not bother with decorating but am in the process of getting a bunch of stuff I always wanted for my walls. my elusive number one target is this film poster, but idk if I'm ever gonna find it. also the photorealistic vince vaughn painting raised in the ruffalo thread, prob also not gonna happen anytime soon

I'm really lazy about putting stuff up. I only have 3 things on my bedroom wall and they're all maps. 2 new york and 1 paris.

http://www.raremaps.com/maps/mediumkz/21077.jpg

the paris one is from 1910ish I think? I figured out the date but forgot it. found it at a book fair there.

http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_OBcBbXOBT-Y/S52LQljBNjI/AAAAAAAAA3w/YH_mRK-3UU8/s320/UM_TA_1980.jpg

this is a piece of the map, can't find the whole image. it's early 80s. it's an actual gigantic framed station map that I found discarded and dirty on the street. I lugged it home (it's like 100 pounds) 15 blocks while my gf shook her head and thought about relationship exit-strategies.

then I have a small cheap reproduction of a hagstrom's map of new york subways and elevated lines. I can't find it online but it's dual contracts era. dayo gave me a hk subway map but I am really lazy and haven't put it up.

Most of my wall space has been taken up with shelving units as the place is tiny, for some reason we have garden-type lights on the few remaining walls, and my landlord is a bit of a weird person so I haven't wanted to communicate with him to ask if we can make areas to hang stuff, so currently I have *nothing at all* on my walls. I do very much know what I want to put up when we move, though, so...

5 things on walls, hypothetical edition:

1. This still from Un Chien Andalou, which I cut out of the newspaper and framed, and had up at the last house:
http://www.sensesofcinema.com/wp-content/uploads/images/chien.jpg

2. This awesome picture of Klaus Schulze:
http://zero1magazine.com/wp-content/uploads/2009/07/klaus-schulze4.jpg

3. At least one of these gig posters, of which I have a few (actually, I believe the catalogue here is incomplete, it may well just be the ones that he still intends to sell).

4. A print I'm about to buy of a painting my friend did called 'Admir4l H4gfish' (not sure why I'm googleproofing here, but hey) - of a cat as an old sea tar. Might sound a bit cheesy but it's done very well.

5. One of my friend D's drawings/paintings - he works from a sort of medieval/religious frame, but with a surrealist and romantic bent.

1. This, framed, which eventually led to a weird obsession with Ramon Novarro and his personal history. Found it at an old music professor's garage sale in Ohio.

http://ecx.images-amazon.com/images/I/5194VJEVhIL._SS500_.jpg

2. This ceramic tile, which my dear friend Siobhan gave me. It is one of my prized possessions.

3. An old fucked-up oak desk drawer holding a picture of a young sailor taken in 1937 in Hawaii, and a sewing kit complete with brittle old thread dating from the 1910s.

https://fbcdn-sphotos-a.akamaihd.net/hphotos-ak-snc7/386709_615533478854_4302681_32591249_51968255_n.jpg

4. The turk's head knot as used by divers to rest their diving helmets on when not in water, done by my good friend when he was on acid.

5. Four photos improperly exposed so that two exposures appear on half of each piece of paper, from some family's 1950s era trip to Turkey. Plus an old horse-shoe.

I have

http://www.rare-maps.com/MAPS_PIC/RM-1912-TORONTO.JPG
map of Toronto, 1912. Our street doesn't even make the cut because we're in midtown, which didn't exist then except as farms.

https://fbcdn-sphotos-a.akamaihd.net/hphotos-ak-snc4/46934_438137398577_516053577_5136990_3816519_n.jpg
Mostly sexist vintage advertising, my favourite is the cigarette one which promises 'Blow in her face and she'll follow you everywhere.'

https://fbcdn-sphotos-a.akamaihd.net/hphotos-ak-snc4/47112_438139358577_516053577_5137084_3556052_n.jpg
Collages made from the three Modest Mouse setlists I've snagged - made the first one because it was first time I went to Chicago/Madison and I was excite (has map of Madison as background, iHop sugar packet, Marlboros) but then made Toronto & Kingston versions because got engaged at Kingston show - I actually put in the temp fake diamond ring that I wore while I waited for my custom ring.

The original version of the Rolling Stones' Some Girls, which I cut up like an asshole ;_;
A melting Dali clock
Radiohead poster that I bought long after I should have, and hung sideways
Revolving band of framed album covers
https://fbcdn-sphotos-a.akamaihd.net/hphotos-ak-ash2/47379_438739433577_516053577_5148474_6886564_n.jpg

bonus round, because I love my handiwork - I rescued this shelf *11 years ago* from the garbage, repainted, recently added a back to stabilize it and last week cut old record covers to act as wallpaper! Really liked the effect over boring old plywood.

OK, you guys have the best stuff

Sandbox James Morrison, Friday, 9 December 2011 01:06 (twelve years ago) link

1. A hideous Bob Rosstrossity that I bought at a junk store in St. Louis. The more I look at it the more terrible it gets, but we needed something large for over the couch and the colors were right and it's pretty hilarious.

http://farm8.staticflickr.com/7170/6479553797_deedf23689.jpg

2. Three post cards of animals dress in Victorian clothing that I bought from someone on Etsy and framed myself (I have three other critters so I can switch these out one day). These are on the living room wall to the left of the Rosstrossity as you're facing it.

http://farm8.staticflickr.com/7020/6479552807_e157090a73.jpg

3. Wedding gift from an artist friend of ours. It's hard to tell, but it's a map of Chicago with two birds. <3

http://farm8.staticflickr.com/7158/6479551841_b4d04d3902.jpg

4. Godzilla poster in Polish (mod podged it onto a canvas and painted the border and then took a really blurry picture to post on ILX, sorry) that hangs in the kitchen,

http://farm8.staticflickr.com/7034/6479552081_996c2711a5.jpg

5. Much beloved Carrie poster in Turkish that Jesse gave me for my birthday in 2004. Technically not on the wall at this time but usually hangs over the desk where my sewing machine goes.

It's hard to tell from the pic but that Carrie poster is huge. It used to hang in the living room of our old apartment, which was next to a grocery store. When the lighting was right, if you stood in the parking lot of the grocery store and looked up into our window, that poster is what you would see. It was awesome.

1. Nautical maps of the pennisula in Upper Michigan where I grew up - left one is a broad overview, right one is closeup of the canal/lake running through the middle

2. Painting on wood with some cutout stuff from an artist from my hometown, titled "A Bear in the Yard". The DNR truck is the cage contraption that the Dept. of Natural Resources uses to trap and move problem bears:

http://i.imgur.com/IERVa.jpg

3. Stamped metal elevator certification that I, uh, "acquired" from long since demolished parking garage in Detroit where I used to park at my first job, plus some random Russian propaganda poster of a newspaper sandwich. I have no idea what it says:

http://i.imgur.com/jXzFi.jpg

4. Screenprinted poster from a Sonic Youth show I went to. They had different artists do a poster for every show on the tour and mine happened to be done by this guy whose stuff I've always kind of dug:

Ha, a few weeks ago (and again, a few days ago), I got into a long argument with someone who thought Burt Lancaster, in The Sweet Smell of Success, and I have the same glasses. Evidently not having the same glasses isn't convincing enough.

Map to Pierogi Heaven.

I actually almost went to Pierogi Heaven for lunch today. As in, I dawdled outside and peered in before deciding to get a sandwich somewhere else.

Great thread idea :)

This, as a large framed print:

http://ecx.images-amazon.com/images/I/41qUSSPwgHL._SL500_AA300_.jpg

This woodcut print by Australian 30s artist Christian Waller as a framed postcard I got from the ANG (would LOVE to find a poster sized version)
http://cs.nga.gov.au/IMAGES/LRG/32161.JPG
Along with a bunch of other various B&W pics I took myself, postcardy sized, in littl frames in an arrangement

This is the kitchen wall, our corkboard: many of those postcards are from ILXors!

(also featuring a scribbled pizza dough recipe that I cleverly noted needs "4 cups warm water" and "2 tbsp warm water". o_0

Ronan: A poster for Stalker! Where did you come by that? I love it.

I got it on Amazon actually, it's quite small and was fairly expensive for the size. I really should get it framed as I currently just have it stuck on the wall.

yeah, it is "dig him up" now that you mention it.
