― trudy campbell, Monday, 5 December 2011 01:54 (fourteen years ago)
the peanut brittle.
also, i've tried lots of egg nog, and trader joes eggnog is the greatest eggnog there is
― Mordy, Monday, 5 December 2011 01:58 (fourteen years ago)
feeling their frozen mac & cheese
not really feeling garlic fries (their normal frozen fries are good), or the frozen sauteed onions (too balsalmic-y)
still shoveling lemon chocolate sugar cookies tho
― v-shasty, Monday, 5 December 2011 02:01 (fourteen years ago)
the mac n cheese is the best
― smoove operator, Monday, 5 December 2011 02:12 (fourteen years ago)
I bought a can of their corn but it's still canned
― dayo, Monday, 5 December 2011 02:12 (fourteen years ago)
low fat mac and cheese is just as good too
― good webinar (ha ha I'm having a fantasy), Monday, 5 December 2011 02:13 (fourteen years ago)
not that I give a shit but you know
eggnog covered almonds - so so addictive
― sarahel, Monday, 5 December 2011 02:14 (fourteen years ago)
holy shit the peppermint green tea is the best thing i have ever put in my body
― remy bean in exile, Monday, 5 December 2011 02:20 (fourteen years ago)
i think the lowfat mac & cheese is the same as the full fat, there's just less of it in the box.
― trudy campbell, Monday, 5 December 2011 02:21 (fourteen years ago)
lol
― v-shasty, Monday, 5 December 2011 02:21 (fourteen years ago)
that's p great
― good webinar (ha ha I'm having a fantasy), Monday, 5 December 2011 02:31 (fourteen years ago)
I think so, too! There's definitely a lot less of it.
― thejenny, Monday, 5 December 2011 03:04 (fourteen years ago)
trader Joe's pot pies are disgusting
― moonbop, Monday, 5 December 2011 03:19 (fourteen years ago)
thumbs up to the black bean & corn enchiladas -- i think they're from amy's or cedarlane. i added some of the tj's double roasted salsa, and *mwah*.
― trudy campbell, Wednesday, 7 December 2011 22:25 (fourteen years ago)
i'm not a big fan of their non-french-vanilla ice creams but the peppermint/cookies & cream one is better than most
the gorgonzola crackers are really dry :(
― n/a, Wednesday, 7 December 2011 22:27 (fourteen years ago)
do they have a peppermint candy ice cream? so few places make peppermint ice cream with the crushed-in candy.
― trudy campbell, Wednesday, 7 December 2011 22:34 (fourteen years ago)
no it's peppermint ice cream with the peppermint jo-jos (oreos) crushed in.

I got a box of the sea salted chocolate caramels and all the salt came off the candies! Im trying to place little salt rocks back on these things but it's not sticking.
― Carnitas, Thursday, 8 December 2011 01:41 (fourteen years ago)
chicken satay was totally disappointing. meh.
― julia, Thursday, 8 December 2011 02:58 (fourteen years ago)
I feel like TJ subcontracts out to different wholesale mftrs and the quality of the food will depend on that mftr
I have divined that their vegetable masala burger uses the exact same filling as their veggie samosas
― The Love Song of L. Alfred Sotosyn (dayo), Thursday, 8 December 2011 03:02 (fourteen years ago)
Trader Joes has the best caramel cashew cookies. OMG!

destroy: their coffees. so acidic
― silvana mangano, Thursday, 8 December 2011 04:31 (fourteen years ago)
the medium roast one is pretty good imo
― sarahel, Thursday, 8 December 2011 04:47 (fourteen years ago)
breakfast blend, columbia supremo are the only medium roast one. well I think there's another, but...
'medium dark roast' and 'dark roast' and 'extra' dark roast' are all rubbish. anything that's a dark roast is rubbish. hides the bean
― The Love Song of L. Alfred Sotosyn (dayo), Thursday, 8 December 2011 11:54 (fourteen years ago)
I've not been very pleased with TJ's coffee in the past, but we currently have the fair trade Bolivian breakfast blend which is a "medium dark" roast and that one is actually good. I would buy it again when I'm too lazy to go buy coffee from these guys.
― thejenny, Thursday, 8 December 2011 13:20 (fourteen years ago)
Wait, this is on Intelligentsia's about page and I don't think I can buy their coffee in good conscience anymore:
Intelligentsia now has three it calls home: Chicago—a city that is brooding, practical and reluctantly beautiful; Los Angeles—a city that views creativity as a birthright, is immensely vast, decidedly impractical and equally messy and marvelous; and New York—a city of paradoxes, hulking but chock full of intimate corners, timeless but achingly current, polished but decaying, worldly yet oddly provincial, all crashing together in perfect cacophony (or is it harmony?).
gtfo with that shit and also hire a copyeditor.
― thejenny, Thursday, 8 December 2011 13:23 (fourteen years ago)
I haven't found a TJ's coffee I really like. The Bali Blue Moon tastes weirdly like chocolate to me.
― you are a baby seal (Abbott), Thursday, 8 December 2011 13:26 (fourteen years ago)
Oh God, please send me to Hell for having said "TJ's."Yours,ABbott
You didn't say it, you wrote it. We write lots of abbreviations on the internet. Te absolvo.
― thejenny, Thursday, 8 December 2011 13:38 (fourteen years ago)
i like the tarrazzo (?) coffee the best, the one with the packaging that looks like old-timey tattoo art. it is a little chocolatey but not overwhelmingly. their "morning joe" coffee isn't bad for el cheapo coffee either, it's like good diner coffee.
― n/a, Thursday, 8 December 2011 16:10 (fourteen years ago)
i didn't realize saying "TJ's" was so repulsive :-/
disappointed by the apparent lack of my favorite holiday salted caramels in a red boxpleased by holiday ale and puff pastry though
― league of women voters, Thursday, 8 December 2011 16:13 (fourteen years ago)
appalled at myself for having posted to this thread
(not really)
i really wish the nj trader joe's sold beer and wine.has to do with some kinda bullshit antiquated state law i think

― The Love Song of L. Alfred Sotosyn (dayo), Thursday, 8 December 2011 16:26 (fourteen years ago)

― Carnitas, Thursday, 8 December 2011 18:42 (fourteen years ago)

it's weird though because the Whole Foods here in Jersey sell all types of booze. maybe cuz they can afford to pay the right people off or something

I don't think our Whole Foods do but regular grocery stores and pharmacies do so I don't know what the criteria are.

yes hard liquor

the trader joe's in hollywood has calvados in stock!

I've never seen one that sells hard liquor

I want the green tea peppermint stick ice cream STAT!!!! Love peppermint ice cream so much, no one makes except at Christmas.
Also really really like the Organic Sumatran coffee. Don't understand peepl saying all their coffees are bad??
― OH GNUS (Pyth), Thursday, 8 December 2011 19:05 (fourteen years ago)
there are a couple "artisan" ice cream companies here that do peppermint ice cream year round! I think it's McConnell's Peppermint Stick that is my fave.

I like the Bali Blue Moon coffee too, never noticed any weird chocolateyness.
The best coffee I've ever had was from TJ's, a Mocha Sana'ani from Yemen, back in the 80s. Never seen it since.

i had a bottle of this Trader Joes Dark Mexican beer last night and it tasted like lighter fluid
― moonbop, Tuesday, 13 December 2011 04:10 (fourteen years ago)
or something... it was not what a beer is supposed to be like
Trader Joe's eggnog cookies–no. I really disliked them, so I gave them to a friend to try. She tried one, made a face, and agreed to throw them out.
― julia, Tuesday, 13 December 2011 16:57 (fourteen years ago)
my dark chocolate sea salt caramels in the red box are nowhere to be found in that mess of xmas cookie/candy
also yesterday my cashier asked me 2x consecutively if i had "survived my monday" and both times i responded "i guess i'm still here..." and then on the way out he told me to be more positive about my future. !?!?
― league of women voters, Tuesday, 13 December 2011 17:03 (fourteen years ago)
Since no one in my family lives within thousands of miles of one of these places, it just occurred to me to buy them all 3 kinds of candy/cookies/spiced nuts as stocking stuffers. I'm gonna be the most popular person there.

Chile mango Popsicles. Eat them.
― Jeff, Wednesday, 14 December 2011 20:29 (fourteen years ago)
i was surprised how spicy those were
― n/a, Wednesday, 14 December 2011 21:10 (fourteen years ago)
though maybe they vary in spiciness from batch to batch like their salsas do
my bag of chile mango slices is still sitting in the cupboard, uneaten
― tumblr whine-y (dayo), Wednesday, 14 December 2011 21:16 (fourteen years ago)

― Jeff, Wednesday, 14 December 2011 21:29 (fourteen years ago)
the popsicles sound amazing.
Christmas wreath cookies are pretty great. I just ate a whole box, which was thankfully small.

The vanilla cinnamon black tea (aka lemur tea) is no longer on the shelves and the sign is gone. If only I had Mormon-food hoarded, per Abbott's inclination.

haha - i have taken note of the crab rangoon everytime i go - i have avoided buying it because i feared it would have a highly addictive quality.

i've only ever had it at tiki bars

they were available at all the fast food chinese places in boston -- it wasn't till i lived elsewhere that i realized, sadly, they were a regional thing
― rayuela, Saturday, 24 December 2011 01:41 (fourteen years ago)
crab rangoon is available elsewhere but it's horrid ime, compared to boston. kinda like trying to find good clam chowder outside new england.
i want to try the tjs stuff anyway.
― julia, Saturday, 24 December 2011 02:39 (fourteen years ago)
i hope you're all happy because i bought them when i went to tj's last night as they were a $1 off 'flyer item.' now i feel guilty. wonder how long they will stay in the freezer before i break down. i somehow justified by buying some prosecco to go with?
