CASH-STRAPPED Britons are haggling their way to a multi-million pound Christmas bonanza.

Savvy shoppers are shrugging off the economic gloom and traditional British reserve by negotiating lower prices for high street goods after heeding the advice of Which? magazine.

The tactic, widespread in Turkish bazaars and Middle Eastern souks, is now being played out all over the UK and is saving families a fortune on gifts.

Never let Richard Desmond go down the bookies for you:

Jonathan Powell, of Positive Weather Solutions, said: “We may not see a mirror image of last year’s weather with widespread snow but the chances of a white Christmas for large parts of the country are quite high. North-east England and Scotland have a 35 to 40 per cent chance of a white Christmas.”

Nice juxtaposition of stories, makes "Kate" sound like a benefit cheat, when of course she's a far bigger scrounger than that

"North-east England and Scotland have a 35 to 40 per cent chance of a white Christmas.”

Yes, but doesn't it have to snow on the roof of the Met office in London before they pay out?

I walked past a newsagent's yesterday and saw a sticker in the window - it was probably p old but new to me - advertising R Desmond's group of publications (Express/Star/OK/Now or some shit like that) together as "A GREAT TEAM", like it was a record label or something

don't really think that ppl buying the Express are doing so because they have a deep seated respect for the media group that owns it

That tactic is widespread in Turkish bazaars and Middle Eastern souks and now being played out all over the UK iirc.

Jonathan Powell, senior forecaster for Positive Weather Solutions, said: “A break in the snow on Thursday will give way to gales of up to 65mph in the North before more cold weather on Friday.” He added: “After a lull on Thursday the snow is set to return with a bang on Friday and will start to move South and South-east. There is a possibility of snow as far south as London.”

Jonathan Powell, senior forecaster for Positive Weather Solutions, said: “It is going to be a real shock to the system. An Arctic blast from the North-west is drawing in northern air.

“We are looking at blizzards, freezing temperatures feeling as low as minus 10C in the wind, and travel chaos a real possibility.”

Barry Callebaut, the world’s largest chocolate manufacturer, believes cocoa prices could double in eight years. Other experts think it could be worse.

At the end of last year London chocolatier Marc Demarquette was predicting an even gloomier future. “Galaxy, Creme Eggs, every kind of £1 chocolate bar will be a thing of the past,” he warned, suggesting that a £7 bar would be more likely.
