new on-camera interview with jerry sandusky (from this morning's NYT)

Daniel, Esq., Saturday, 3 December 2011 14:23 (fourteen years ago)

“They’ve taken everything that I ever did for any young person and twisted it to say that my motives were sexual or whatever,” Mr. Sandusky said. He added: “I had kid after kid after kid who might say I was a father figure. And they just twisted that all.”

Um, about your opening phrasing in that second sentence...

Ned Raggett, Saturday, 3 December 2011 19:19 (fourteen years ago)

I think he knows that nothing he could do or say would put him in a worse position than he already is in, so he'll continue to pile on the proclamations of innocence and hope it fools enough people to serve his purposes. He's scum, but he's shrewd and calculating scum.

Aimless, Saturday, 3 December 2011 19:37 (fourteen years ago)

Yeah, really, at this point, it's not like a 'mea culpa' would save him from a massive jail sentence for the remainder of his life. Unfortunately for him, eyewitnesses are going to make his "my actions were misinterpreted" angle difficult to swallow.

I really could have chose more sensitive wording there.

i'm just stunned at the sandusky legal-team's "media strategy."

Daniel, Esq., Saturday, 3 December 2011 22:48 (fourteen years ago)

sandusky waived a preliminary hr'g, and appears headed for a quick trial.

Sandusky's lawyer: "I suggest you dial 1-800-REALITY."

"On second thought, please don't."

is he on suicide watch?

tumblr whine-y (dayo), Tuesday, 13 December 2011 20:35 (fourteen years ago)

nope

v-shasty, Tuesday, 13 December 2011 20:36 (fourteen years ago)

Amendola: "This goes beyond the Penn State-Miami game in '86 [sic]. This is the game of his life." In his own remarks to the media, Sandusky vowed to fight for "four full quarters."

this is literally and in 1-800 REALITY a onion article

He pointed out that several victims have civil attorneys: "What greater motivation, folks, could there be than the financial motivation of saying, 'I'm a victim.'" If we were to keep with the 50-counts-of-child-sex-abuse-allegations-as-football-game metaphor, that would be a 15-yard penalty for taunting.

oh christ

Lord Sotosyn, Tuesday, 13 December 2011 20:41 (fourteen years ago)

how is this not a career-ender for someone like amendola

nuhnuhnuh, Tuesday, 13 December 2011 20:43 (fourteen years ago)

i mean i'm sure it probably will be insofar as cases like this -- but i'm sure there will be enough desperate sex offenders looking for defense attorneys to keep his practice going

if Sandusky gets found guilty (and he will) then he can say he had incompetent advisors?

Mr Jimmy Mod, Tuesday, 13 December 2011 21:02 (fourteen years ago)

does that work if you can afford basically any attorney and just decide to pick & stick with a total imbecile?

v-shasty, Tuesday, 13 December 2011 21:14 (fourteen years ago)

i mean i guess he could theoretically file a civil suit?

v-shasty, Tuesday, 13 December 2011 21:14 (fourteen years ago)

In his own remarks to the media, Sandusky vowed to fight for "four full quarters."

Four full hindquarters, maybe.

Amendola: "This goes beyond the Penn State-Miami game in '86

leave my team out of this, you incompetent boob.

Daniel, Esq., Wednesday, 14 December 2011 21:00 (fourteen years ago)

i was reading somewhere yesterday about the possiblity of a guilty verdict leading to the "incompetent defense" argument from sandusky, but i guess if the evidence against a defendant is considered to be overwhelming by an appellate court, they'll deny that argument.
