while ilx was dead I watched yootube makeup tutorials

now when I apply my makeup in the morning, I pretend I am making a yootube tutorial

i have been using dry shampoo to extend the time between hair washings (in order to preserve my new color) and it has been rather uneventful.

smoove (who are you on ILX?), those are snappy glasses. I bought these for ten American dollars today: http://www.coastal.com/glasses/frames/love-l741-brunette-tortoiseshell/prod28091.html

Also I got totally sucked in by a commercial for Maybelline's "Baby Lips" tinted lip balm that ran before Break Dawn (jesus, I maybe need to sit down and reexamine my life) even though the commercial was suuuuuper stupid and offensive. Verdict: not bad and they are nice with various lip stains to moisturize and refresh the color throughout the day.

thejenny, Monday, 28 November 2011 23:48 (twelve years ago) link

this is just1n3! i've had this login for ages on the sandbox.

i love those glasses, jenny, i'm really into frames that are a little more winged-up than i'm used to - i feel like maybe it flatters my eye shape a bit better? but i'm nervous about the width. i remember asking you about the true measurement on those derek c ones you got, i can't remember how you explained it, but i do know that the total width measurement on their site doesn't accurately reflect the sizing.

i'd just really like to pull off something a little less bookish that my current selection, and spend little money doing so.

p.s. i also got one of those baby lips balms a while back - it's very... pink

smoove operator, Tuesday, 29 November 2011 01:33 (twelve years ago) link

Why hello there!

Coastal Contacts gives the total width as the lens width plus the bridge measurement without actually measuring the frames. So with those Derek Cardigan frames (which are really big), the total width they gave was like 15 mm less than the actual total width of the frames.

It's kind of a big, lazy oversight that I'm surprised they haven't corrected considering that they seem to be doing a brisk business.

Hello. I went to Sephora yesterday and used my FABULOUS coupon and I bought "Hand Food" hand cream which is a TERRIBLE name but a really nice product. (Do all hand creams have dimethicone in them now? Is this going to kill me?)

I ended up passing on the Urban Decay eyeshadow palette but did get the Two-Faced matte eyeshadow collection. I'm not sure how I feel about it yet. The shadow doesn't go on very smoothly, but that may well be user error.

my new glasses made me reaslise i need to do something about my eyebrows - any recs for brow kits/pencils/powders?

smoove operator, Friday, 9 December 2011 21:07 (twelve years ago) link

would just like to note that I am kind of digging coconut oil as a moisturizer

dayo, Friday, 9 December 2011 21:09 (twelve years ago) link

J, do you have your brows professionally groomed? I'd start there and then you can do maintenance yourself.

I use some brow powder - Anastasia I think - and like it a lot. It adds a little color and since the powder has a little wax in it, keeps them in place.

Body or face?

thejenny, Friday, 9 December 2011 21:48 (twelve years ago) link

body - I notice my skin stays softer for longer than when using dove body lotion

dayo, Friday, 9 December 2011 21:49 (twelve years ago) link

no, i'm pretty lucky in the eyebrow dept, but i need to fill them in - i notice they disappear with the new specs, otherwise. i really need to put in more effort tweezing them, too, been pretty lazy about that.

smoove operator, Friday, 9 December 2011 22:01 (twelve years ago) link

Ah then I def recommend that brow powder. Although when I was stranded in Philadelphia last Xmas, I bought a Revlon or Loreal brow pencil with a built in brush on one end bc my luggage got to go to Chicago w/out me and that was awesome. There was a little red in the color that worked well w/ my eyes.

thejenny, Friday, 9 December 2011 22:10 (twelve years ago) link

dayo are you using straight coconut oil or is is mixed with another base oil?

smoove operator, Friday, 9 December 2011 22:13 (twelve years ago) link

Remember the big Skecher debate we had a while back? Well on Black Friday I bought these:

http://www.skechers.com/style/50984/ascoli-piceno/wgor

they are really really bad ass

OH NOES, Friday, 9 December 2011 22:15 (twelve years ago) link

are you wearing them with white socks

dayo, Friday, 9 December 2011 22:20 (twelve years ago) link

actually no, weirdly

guys how can we design a male dress-like-an-adult wardrobe that involves the smallest number of items of clothing possible and that a single load of laundry a week could maintain

like seriously there is an algorithm for this right?

river wolf, Tuesday, 13 December 2011 17:51 (twelve years ago) link

i just got a scarf like this, except black where the midnight blue is, and royal blue where the purple is, and the other side is entirely green, and i LOVE it. it's 100% wool

http://www.gordonstoun.org.uk/uploads/Products/product_25/product_large_schoolscarf.jpg

apparently this is a really common sort of boarding school scarf so i'm not sure what signals i'm sending to the 1% but fuck it

his venerable escutcheon, Tuesday, 13 December 2011 17:53 (twelve years ago) link

gbx you need:

2 pairs of nice trousers. 100% wool. these will be expensive.

1 really nice cardigan/sweater.

the rest you can totally fake.

his venerable escutcheon, Tuesday, 13 December 2011 17:54 (twelve years ago) link

ty!

currently my "work" wardrobe is two pairs of dockers (olive and khaki) and about five button downs in rotation. Plus a couple sweaters I prob don't care for well enough. I've actually got a nice pair of wool trousers but no black shoes so I've never worn them

river wolf, Tuesday, 13 December 2011 17:57 (twelve years ago) link

well good shoes are a given, come on man

hey guys remember that dress i was like OOOOMMMGGG WANT on the dresses thread and then it proceeded into a weird conversation about what tall girls can/can't wear in terms of ruffles? well, here it is -- i wore it to holiday partee. i had to belt it because it looked a little shapeless without something at the waist, and i wore my grandma's pearls. i also had a g & t in honor of that same grandma on account of her annual holiday gin blitz.

That is so so cute. Could never pull it off myself but it's perfect on you.

thanks! i like the dress a lot, and i have worn the tutu part with a crappy old vneck sweater over it too. it's pretty versatile, at least by my standards.

league of women voters, Thursday, 15 December 2011 15:35 (twelve years ago) link

Per Homo's dress like a grown up challenge in the ladies' thread, I am wearing my zebra print blazer today. But with a full-skirted black dress and mary janes so prob defeating the purpose.

wore glasses and said things (thejenny), Thursday, 15 December 2011 16:17 (twelve years ago) link

it's partly carriage too. stand like a proud grown up, or have affected indie toes.

league of women voters, Thursday, 15 December 2011 16:20 (twelve years ago) link

and i am sure you don't have affected indie toes.

league of women voters, Thursday, 15 December 2011 16:20 (twelve years ago) link

I do not. Head up, shoulders back, spine straight. I walk around like I own the place.

I recognized that lace dress on FB! Mostly because I was the tall girl pining for that whimsy, teehee!

I need some damned pictures of my new damned dresses! I've received two Modcloth as well as my inaugaural eShakti dress in the last little while. I also ordered three more eShakti ones because my husband bought me a $100 gift card for $50 thanks to a Christmas sale they're having! Did you know you also get $20 off your first order? I used his account, ordered a $40 dress, paid $20 on my Visa. Then got two others with the $100 gc. I AM INSANE. But I look so terrible in pants!

I love eShakti.

wore glasses and said things (thejenny), Wednesday, 21 December 2011 17:12 (twelve years ago) link

Speaking of, I just got two emails from eShakti - one with a $20 off gift card AND 15% off AND free shipping (with the assurance that you can use them all at once) and then a 50% off coupon.

Bought this dress and this dress (bringing my blue dress count up into the Completely Absurd range (and I don't have a lot of clothes; just a lot of blue dresses)) for $47 with a customized length option on the striped wrap dress.

I'll say it again: I love eShakti.
