i.e. LXY:
lxy dearest, i was wondering if you are able to draw the silhouette of a slinky woman, a go-go dancer to be precise, but really anything along those lines, just a feminine shape with boobs. i'm thinking about our next book, which is a collection of poems by this amazing amazing amazing woman who was a friend of bukowski's back in 60s. she was a go-go girl, so this will be a collection of poems based around that theme. anyway: i want the image on the cover to be a gocco print of a women's naked profile. i will send you a few copies of the book as compensation!
here is a poem from her:
Minding the Infernal Generation Gap with Virginia Woolf
Dustin the 20some boy next door asks about my
red Virginia Woolf tee-shirt I wear: Who’s that?
and I tell him and Dustin winces, looks confused.
A British writer, I add and he frowns, bobbles his
shaven head atop his baggy rock concert logo’d
tee-shirt, his scrawny knees wriggling inside his
rapper-boy too-big-for-his-britches short pants.
Dustin looks like every drug-user stay-at-home
white male from New York City to L.A. who plays
video games all day and smokes pot all night so it
would make no sense to him if I told him I’d read
Mrs. Dalloway in grad school in 1979, years before
his birth, had tried to write like Virginia Woolf, used
a lot of semi-colons and streams of consciousness
so I say: Virginia Woolf wrote songs for the Beatles,
played tambourine for Sid Vicious, was Posh Spice’s
great-grandmother and that makes Dustin smile, say:
Hey, yeah, way cool, I thought she looked familiar,
I could tell she was really old. Then he answers his
cell, struts Cool Dude down the stairs to go to the
corner 99-cent store to buy his cheap-o cigarettes
and I go to the supermarket for milk and think what
fun it is not to tell the truth, feel as giddy from this
flippant fabrication, my flummery of balloon juice as
I’d be from chugging a magnum of Dom Perignon
champagne so I pat Virginia Woolf on her tousled
upswept hair printed on my red tee-shirt, thank her for
Being There for me, but Virginia Woolf only hmmphs,
not speaking to me, too good for me, just like always.

one year passes...
OMG I FEEL LIKE SUCH A DICK!!!!!
---> so, my mother-in-law is a huge, huge dog lover, and i had this idea for her 60th b'day back in january for a pet portrait (i figured this would score me massive DIL points). i did tons of research, trying to find a really great pet portraitist, but at the last minute i found out via my FIL that she didn't want gifts, but donations on her behalf to charities.
my point is: i totally forgot about your pet painting thang!!!!!! so now i feel like this gift not working out was actually a sign, and i would like to commission maybe 3 pet portraits from you at the end of the year. i will figure out pics and shit and you can give me a quote! i'm so excited!!!!!
<3
p.s. we are still coming to seattle in like FOUR WEEKS!!!!
