jelky, Tuesday, 21 July 2009 03:02 (sixteen years ago)

you go first

spite n ease (harbl), Tuesday, 21 July 2009 03:06 (sixteen years ago)

confounded emailed me and said since ilx is down there is this other place. i remember being #78 but don't know now how i figured that out. the rest from there is history baby!!

jergins, Tuesday, 21 July 2009 03:10 (sixteen years ago)

that love story left a lot to be desired

spite n ease (harbl), Tuesday, 21 July 2009 03:14 (sixteen years ago)

i had to go to the grocery store just now to get this:

guy in front of me in line-total dude, floral shirt and cutoff jeans and hiking boots, tan and tall-says "so i met with more possible renters today. came to the house, looked around. four babes." checker said "yeah, oh man, that's awesome for you"
then i bought my ice

jergins, Tuesday, 21 July 2009 03:52 (sixteen years ago)

tru <3

could they be cuter

jergins, Wednesday, 22 July 2009 05:15 (sixteen years ago)

NO THEY COULD NOT!

lxy, Wednesday, 22 July 2009 05:19 (sixteen years ago)

i think they could be. it's like no one even tries anymore.

te,he (tehresa), Wednesday, 22 July 2009 05:35 (sixteen years ago)

she's cute i don't like the guy though

spite n ease (harbl), Wednesday, 22 July 2009 11:27 (sixteen years ago)

f. and our dog are asleep in the next room and through the wall i can hear harry having a dream, he has these dreams where he makes little strange frantic barking noises and all his feet run through the air. i wish i could see his dreams, we read a book that said dogs have blurry vision and their colour palette is quite different from ours so for example green looks purple to them, so i bet his dreams are sheer nonsense. end of <3 story.

estela, Thursday, 23 July 2009 12:22 (sixteen years ago)

i love dog dreams. cat dreams too but not like a dog. she just twitches.

spite n ease (harbl), Thursday, 23 July 2009 14:58 (sixteen years ago)

i love the image of estela and harry cuddled up together on the couch reading the doggie dreams book, then discussing the relative merits of dog v. people dreams and doing color chart comparisons.

lxy, Thursday, 23 July 2009 15:12 (sixteen years ago)

while wearing matching afghans, no less

te,he (tehresa), Thursday, 23 July 2009 16:12 (sixteen years ago)

if you drill a hole in a scull it will sink

spite n ease (harbl), Thursday, 23 July 2009 17:02 (sixteen years ago)

oops that post was meant for IRE

spite n ease (harbl), Thursday, 23 July 2009 17:03 (sixteen years ago)

congratulations to l & e

nakhchivan, Friday, 2 December 2011 11:30 (fourteen years ago)

i remember you mentioned the buddhist wedding idea but i presumed you would settle on something more conventional in the end (oh me of little faith)

nakhchivan, Friday, 2 December 2011 11:32 (fourteen years ago)

i'm all teary, in between returning incomplete assessments

Sad Banter (p much resigned to deems), Friday, 2 December 2011 11:32 (fourteen years ago)

i think you should evict a young polish family by way of commemorating this momentous event in the life of ilx

nakhchivan, Friday, 2 December 2011 11:35 (fourteen years ago)

today of all days, i will allow lj to post a simple thumb pointing up or down to decide their fate

Sad Banter (p much resigned to deems), Friday, 2 December 2011 11:37 (fourteen years ago)

All posting conceits are there to be flouted, and so it goes again. (Given that I hadn't posted in two weeks on the main board, this could be considered making up for lost time - or a piece of craven wish-fulfilment for the sesquipedalia-spotters among us)

Anyhow, you are all the sweetest and I thank you a thousand times over. Every <3 is requited, every encomium for the bride is blushingly forwarded. As you can imagine, it was the greatest of days - bookended by my stag night and our honeymoon flight (why waste time in between?) and featuring friendship at its most vivacious. Also featuring half the wedding party being led into the backwaters of industrial Chiswick, but if a groom can't muster a faulty inner GPS then frankly who can? So yes - polyphonic chanting was meditated upon, string was tied, rings were worn, delightful roast food and mulled wine were scoffed and quaffed alongside the Thames, and three days of Dublin were a fresh way to start married life.

Now for some end credits. The invite, which has turned a few glances, was the work of a man called Winston Rowntree, E's favourite webcomic artist. Once he'd agreed to her commission, she drew a very rough draft of what we wanted on Photoshop, sent it off, and let him do the rest. As you can see, his gifts are fairly extravagant. If there's any interest in his other work, it can be found at www.viruscomix.com - where a litany of genuinely brilliant strips can be found, usually with an articulate social or philosophical point spun imaginatively into the seams. Another feather in Rowntree's cap is that he writes so well - so feelingly - from the female perspective that long-term fans E and I were absolutely convinced he was a woman until after we initiated communications!

Next up, To Arms Etc. - the band I persuaded to play our wedding. Short story: I found their leader on a member recruitment page and struck up a friendship centred around our mutually-compatible tastes. Then I listened to their music, which was predictably thrilling progressive-edged pop. Then they sent me their 2011 album, which was nothing short of stunning as I have previously attested. Throw in a couple of nitro'd-up live gigs (one of which I DJ'd at, fact fans) and it became a no-brainer to get these guys on board - and boy, they delivered. They even learnt one request from each half of the couple in the two weeks beforehand - E's being FNM's From Out Of Nothing, and mine being (predictably enough) Cardiacs' Flap Off You Beak, both of which they nailed flat.

It would be remiss of me to go this far without mentioning the pub itself - the Bell & Crown on the Chiswick/Kew border. Wonderful location, cosy atmosphere, amazing food, delightful and affectionate Irish landlady, and all this with a heaving regular clientele in the other half of the premises. Plus, they have a really, really lovely dog.

And lastly - if you find yourself in the Sheffield area, pop along to the Heavenly Cheesecake Company because my fucking god if you told me I could sort out the wedding cake - four tiers - for 80 quid, and receive the most astonishingly perfect cheesecake I've ever consumed in my life, I'd have probably asked repeatedly for the catch. (The catch, as it turned out, was that THCC don't deliver outside Sheffield, so I had to get my youngest brother, who is at university there, to visit the shop, pick up the cake-box, be graciously ferried to the station by the shop-owner and stupendous confectionery doyenne, and escort it to St Pancras, whereupon I had to carry the blessed thing all the way to Chiswick - a necessary sufferance, and one that reaped a suitably karmic reward)

Anyhow, that's enough blather from me for a lifetime of sandboxing. Thanks again folks; the response here has been really warm, and I return the feeling in full. Here's to an equally eventful and joyous 2012!

once a lifetime is ample, Saturday, 3 December 2011 12:37 (fourteen years ago)

Well done my man. I wish you both an endless torrent of sickening happiness :)

Julie Lagger, Saturday, 3 December 2011 12:43 (fourteen years ago)

you might want to learn the titles of Faith No More songs if you're gonna keep her sweet tho ;-)

Julie Lagger, Saturday, 3 December 2011 12:46 (fourteen years ago)

belated hearty congrats LJ, may Charlton vanquish all before them in 2012

pandemic, Saturday, 3 December 2011 14:28 (fourteen years ago)

that is a VMIC wedding for sure

also it will never not be lol and rather touching that one of ilx' most effusive posters announces life-changing events on innocuously titled old sandbox threads

nakhchivan, Saturday, 3 December 2011 14:55 (fourteen years ago)

speaking as a sandbox regular:

it is a great honor that the auspicious announcement was made here. many hearty congratulations to the lovely couple, and happiness to you always.

lxy, Saturday, 3 December 2011 16:31 (fourteen years ago)

i think that our congrats need to be as exuberantly verbose as we can manage given the recipient, and i regret my sincere yet brief message tbh

Sad Banter (p much resigned to deems), Saturday, 3 December 2011 19:08 (fourteen years ago)

i went to see a Cardiacs cover band to honor LJ's nuptials

sarahel, Saturday, 3 December 2011 19:17 (fourteen years ago)

Imo eat some cheesecake to honor them.

nickn, Sunday, 4 December 2011 07:34 (fourteen years ago)

nine years pass...

oh man

mookieproof, Friday, 12 February 2021 05:47 (five years ago)

three years pass...

this thread is a good auld lang syne read

estela, Monday, 21 October 2024 04:19 (one year ago)

no.

i don't even particularly like louis, but if someone called a thread devoted to my failed marriage 'a good read' that would suck

mookieproof, Thursday, 24 October 2024 03:33 (one year ago)

tbf louis’s marriage appeared two years after the thread was started so it’s not really devoted to that.
i read it as a classic jergins thread which is a genre of thread i have always enjoyed.
i also think that if louis (who i always got on perfectly fine with) saw this he would be mainly pleased with himself for ’enconium’
