...are white ppl less or more likely to like them / feel comfortable in their presence than if they don't conform to the stereotype at all?

The black girl who works here in the office is lovely and I get on really well w/ her. but she is about as far from the stereotypical black as it is possible to be and you know, I am pretty sure that I get on w/ her and like her far more than if she did 'conform to type'. Now I am not at all comfortable with or proud of this fact. Maybe it is, in itself, a form of prejudice. But I find it interesting.

this is an odd question, I realise that it is a parody of mine, but it comes close to redundncy as you have to ask - which black people>? Americans? British? French? Africans? Australian aborigines? Rich? Poor? Kids? Adults?

What the hell is a stereotypical black? Is it like the character on 'Life on Mars' talking about eating watermelon and rolling his eyes?

Billy Dods (Billy Dods), Thursday, 22 February 2007 11:59 (nineteen years ago)

I alluded to the same, Billy.

MarkH (MarkH), Thursday, 22 February 2007 12:00 (nineteen years ago)

Indeed Mark, but I had to ask again, as I couldn't believe it was asked in the first place.

Billy, how would you react if he had said "blonde people" instead if black people?

I think I'd be even more baffled by that.
