I dunno which kind of Nemi cartoons I hate more. The ones where the writer shoves her badly conceived sixth-form hippy politics down our throats, the relationship ones where men be doing one thing and women be doing another, or the ones where she has really wide eyes in the third frame possibly as a result of her words in that frame comically contradicting the point she was seriously making in the first two frames.

Scandinavian humour.

Oh, you and your hating.

Matt DC (Matt DC), Wednesday, 21 February 2007 11:13 (nineteen years ago)

(It is rubbish though. But possibly not as rubbish as This Life).

Matt DC (Matt DC), Wednesday, 21 February 2007 11:13 (nineteen years ago)

I honestly would take This Life, Fred Bassett, George and Lynne, and Steve Bell's fucking penguins over Nemi.

White Collar Boxer (DomPassantino), Wednesday, 21 February 2007 11:15 (nineteen years ago)

Fred Bassett and the penguins are grebt tho.

Graham pioneered the jokeless cartoon strip. Shit is Zen.

I see it was established, in the Bushell thread, that even knowing the People exists marks you out as a thickie... but I would still like to bring Tom Johnston's 'The Week That Wasn't' to the table

Feargal Hixxy (DJ Mencap), Wednesday, 21 February 2007 11:56 (nineteen years ago)

I like Nemi quite a bit, but then I'm a sixth-form hippie myself. And I know that the gender stereotypes can be irritating, but some of the relationship jokes are pretty spot-on. Plus there's a lot of anti-stereotype humour too, for example regarding Nemi's femininity.

I have to say that the quality of the strip has dropped since the early 00's though.

Tuomas (Tuomas), Wednesday, 21 February 2007 12:02 (nineteen years ago)

N. likes this strip, I think.

My problem with it is that there aren't any jokes.

Euai Kapaui (tracerhand), Wednesday, 21 February 2007 12:31 (nineteen years ago)

The Drunken Bakers kinda gets by without jokes. This, not so much.

Michael Annoyman (Michael Annoyman), Wednesday, 21 February 2007 12:33 (nineteen years ago)

Nemi collapsing into a pile of her own vomit each strip whilst making passing reference to the family that have disowned her would improve it massively.

these all really suck. i had never heard of nemi till today.

temporary enrique (temporary enrique), Wednesday, 21 February 2007 13:52 (nineteen years ago)

I have seen in the Metro Nemi cartoons that are far, far, far better than the ones Dom's setting up to be slaughtered. I think he's going out of his way to choose all the rubbish ones.

unfished business (Scourage), Wednesday, 21 February 2007 14:18 (nineteen years ago)

Yeah, the rest of them are like Porridge multiplied by Curb Your Enthusiasm.

Dom Passantino (DomPassantino), Wednesday, 21 February 2007 14:18 (nineteen years ago)

The english version of Nemi suffers from poor translation. I believe this version is more accurate:

Goaste = love.

Dom Passantino (DomPassantino), Wednesday, 21 February 2007 14:39 (nineteen years ago)

Admittedly those Nemi cartoons from Goaste knock spots off the originals, I'm just saying that they're not all as horrendous as Dom's making out. Merely mediocre.

unfished business (Scourage), Wednesday, 21 February 2007 14:42 (nineteen years ago)

Translation: Louis wants to schtup a goff from his college.

Dom Passantino (DomPassantino), Wednesday, 21 February 2007 14:44 (nineteen years ago)

She's not a goff! Nor from my college!

Impressive if you can make that sort of logical leap work, though.
