Yellow shells, clapboard house, the occasional burst of well-calibrated weirdness. After [email protected] and gygax (both gone but neither forgotten), you have entered my pantheon of favored posters.

thanks, trayce! i was going to post a picture of anne of green gables on this thread, but for some reason that seemed out of place. hence:

hi Beth Parker! I dig your way with words.

horseshoe (horseshoe), Wednesday, 21 February 2007 05:53 (nineteen years ago)

remy bean, my mom used to be a geometry teacher and part of her assignments would be to make her students construct objects like that. We had a lot of beautiful thingies (dodecahedrons?) around.

Maria :D (Maria :D), Wednesday, 21 February 2007 05:54 (nineteen years ago)

I miss the art thread from realILX.

I am coming to visit a native MVI friend next month and it would certainly be fun to meet you all. I can bring treats upon request.

If only we had had a geometry teacher like that, instead of one who just made us use protractors.

in the case of masonic attack (kate), Wednesday, 21 February 2007 11:10 (nineteen years ago)

She's the koolest kat on the black! I love Maria and Scott, who are equally coolio, for bringing her to ILX. HURRRAAAAHHH

nathalie (stevienixed), Wednesday, 21 February 2007 13:00 (nineteen years ago)

I love ammonites! They're my favourite fossil. I'd love to own one the size of a car tyre.

C J (C J), Wednesday, 21 February 2007 13:02 (nineteen years ago)

I only have a small one I found on a beach on the Isle of Wight. The really huge ones are amazing but excedingly unlikely you would find your own, and stupid expensive to buy.

in the case of masonic attack (kate), Wednesday, 21 February 2007 13:04 (nineteen years ago)

The little ones I've got were from a beach on the Isle of Wight, too! Whale Chine, I think. There's a geologist who lives on the island who runs fossil-hunting tours around the south of the island - we bumped into him while we were looking for fossils at the base of the cliff one day, and he told us that someone HAD found a really big ammonite there, just the week before! I was so envious.

C J (C J), Wednesday, 21 February 2007 13:09 (nineteen years ago)

Here is my Ammonite!

http://i43.photobucket.com/albums/e391/marthasminions/ammonite.jpg

and here is my ammonite! I bought it—it wasn't too expensive. In an amazing rock shop on Rt. 180, west of the Petrified Forest in Arizona. They had big slabs of polished petrified wood made into coffee tables—talk about shattering wine glasses. Those were thousands of dollars, but then they had tons of baskets of other stuff. Shark's teeth, agate marbles, you name it.
I would LOVE to fine one, though. A friend of mine just came back from Costa Rica with the most amazing cylindrical beach-stones, one baby-blue! Also a fossil snail shell, blackish-gray with white quartz-looking crystals in the groove of the whorls.

Beth Parker (Beth Parker), Wednesday, 21 February 2007 16:04 (nineteen years ago)

The scan embiggened it. It's only 2"

Beth Parker (Beth Parker), Wednesday, 21 February 2007 16:05 (nineteen years ago)

I dig the groove of the world.

I love how the pants are chained. Like a giant prisoner got away from his pantball and chain. And the guards, who carried pantball guns.

Beth Parker (Beth Parker), Wednesday, 21 February 2007 16:16 (nineteen years ago)

I like the idea that Columbus's big giant head is floating out in the Atlantic.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Wednesday, 21 February 2007 16:22 (nineteen years ago)

i just save's that pic as 'beth's groove of the world' - so neat

impermanent rrrobyn (rrrobyn), Wednesday, 21 February 2007 16:23 (nineteen years ago)

Paul Eater, definitely email me before you come to the island. Who's your friend here? One of us probably knows him/her, the way this place is. Small and all.

Beth Parker (Beth Parker), Wednesday, 21 February 2007 16:34 (nineteen years ago)
