i like it when a war ends, and people are happy again

unfished business (Scourage), Tuesday, 20 February 2007 17:35 (seventeen years ago) link

how come in a james bond movie there are fifty bad guys and only one of him but he never gets hit and they always do?

deej (deej), Tuesday, 20 February 2007 17:37 (seventeen years ago) link

and the bad guy never dies of diseases or goes to the toilet

unfished business (Scourage), Tuesday, 20 February 2007 17:39 (seventeen years ago) link

I would like James Bond films to be 10 minutes long, where he would spend the first 5 minutes in a toilet and then get killed by the first bad guy he meets. That would be a proper way to do them.

Tuomas (Tuomas), Tuesday, 20 February 2007 17:46 (seventeen years ago) link

which minute is the bit where he whacks off in front of the baby at the baby changing facility in the toilet?

unfished business (Scourage), Tuesday, 20 February 2007 17:52 (seventeen years ago) link

First World War was best, followed by the Crimean War followed by the Napoleonic Wars followed by WWII followed by War of the Roses with Michael Douglas and Kathleen Turner.
The Falklands War was boring though.

Tuomas (Tuomas), Tuesday, 20 February 2007 17:56 (seventeen years ago) link

the soldiers close in, under a yellow moon

unfished business (Scourage), Tuesday, 20 February 2007 18:03 (seventeen years ago) link

Also: the Napoleonic wars weren't that short, there was nothing great about the Great War, and the Crimean war was perfectly legal.

Tuomas (Tuomas), Tuesday, 20 February 2007 18:05 (seventeen years ago) link

I hate war.

Tuomas (Tuomas), Wednesday, 21 February 2007 10:51 (seventeen years ago) link

sometimes war is unavoidable amirite?

temporary enrique (temporary enrique), Wednesday, 21 February 2007 10:52 (seventeen years ago) link

If you are a poorly defended country with large oil reserves, yes.

It's Expected I'm Maud Gonne (Modal Fugue), Wednesday, 21 February 2007 10:54 (seventeen years ago) link

have you heard of adolf hitler? he invaded lots of countries and had to be stopped.

temporary enrique (temporary enrique), Wednesday, 21 February 2007 10:56 (seventeen years ago) link

Well we could argue the toss about whether he could've been stopped earlier. I think it's immaterial to talk about whether WWII was "just" or "necessary". It happened. No war is necessary in that sense. Power be confronting power, isn't it?

It's Expected I'm Maud Gonne (Modal Fugue), Wednesday, 21 February 2007 10:59 (seventeen years ago) link

ur unavoidable wars since ww2

resumo impetus (blueski), Wednesday, 21 February 2007 11:08 (seventeen years ago) link

i think israel's wars to defend itself up to '73 were basically unavoidable.

temporary enrique (temporary enrique), Wednesday, 21 February 2007 11:09 (seventeen years ago) link

or things like the afghan war in the '80s -- hey it didn't *have* to be a war, the afghans could have just rolled over...

temporary enrique (temporary enrique), Wednesday, 21 February 2007 11:11 (seventeen years ago) link

That King David Hotel bombing was well unavoidable.

It's Expected I'm Maud Gonne (Modal Fugue), Wednesday, 21 February 2007 11:15 (seventeen years ago) link

that was an attack on the british protectorate, not egypt, syria, and jordan, amirite :-)

temporary enrique (temporary enrique), Wednesday, 21 February 2007 11:19 (seventeen years ago) link

(I think you're mostly right about the unavoidable thing. I don't equate unavoidable with just tho.)

It's Expected I'm Maud Gonne (Modal Fugue), Wednesday, 21 February 2007 11:21 (seventeen years ago) link
