Sirius and XM merge

My boyfriend has been predicitng this for awhile but I'm a bit suprised. I really hope they keep most of Sirius's channels. Listening regularly to both I definitely prefer S over XM.

Hard to say what the new company will look like after the FCC and DoJ get finished with it, but I'd bet on (a) current/older receivers not working after a certain time (b) more expensive subscription fees and (c) a lot of the lower-demand channels going bye-bye. At least with respect to (a), I certainly wouldn't buy any hardware now until we hear more about forward-compatibility.

Best scenario - keep Sirius' channels but with XM's music library (XM always had deeper playlists, especially on the rock streams).

Your boyfriend isn't prescient. Everyone and their brother has been "predicting" an XM/Sirius merger for years.

well I guess I don't talk to everybody b/c I've been telling him it was ridiculous. I was predicting XM to go down if nothing else b/c I can't see how the only two players in the market can become one.

I mostly listen to the hip-hop stations and XM has always disappointed. Esp. with their edited versions, what's the point? I do like their online player better though.
