On the main board Remy justifiably feared over the top visual gloop due to the trailer. This review is positive and indicates that this only appears at the end, regrettable but perhaps just forgiveable; as the script was cowritten by the author's son it all seems hopeful for a reasonable adaptation in general. (But honestly I don't know if I could see it; the book was wrenching enough.)

this looks like a fucking horrible trainwreck. wasn't there already some PBS adaptation made in the early 80s or something...? I remember that being pretty faithful/hardcore.

Never saw that one but I heard mixed things. I think part of the problem is that it's essentially unfilmable given that so much of it about interior feelings and sharing the imagination. 'Reasonable' is the best that can be hoped for, and if it sinks, it sinks.

The numerous reviews by people pissed off that they DIDN'T get a fantasy movie --

Like on page two -- "This movie will traumatize your children" -- to which I say, good!
