Prob not going to change that too soon as I appear to be coldy as of this evening. Advil to the rescue!

rrrobyn, Friday, 23 December 2011 03:58 (twelve years ago) link

Fuck. First time in years I was going to be all ready to fly home for vacation time plus 2 solid weeks of meetings, and I'm not ready, and I have to go into work tomorrow when I had the day off, and I have to pack tomorrow morning when I was going to pack tonight, and be ready to get in the SuperShuttle by 2.44pm, I am dreading work meetings in January anyway because I messed up at work in a non-fatal but very noticeable way by not spending enough money (arguably not my fault as no-one wanted to spend any with me, but won't be seen that way).

Want to be fappin' in Chicago.

ljubljana, Friday, 23 December 2011 04:00 (twelve years ago) link

Wait, your job requires you to...spend more money...with other people? I am confuse. :(

OH GNUS (Pyth), Friday, 23 December 2011 04:04 (twelve years ago) link

I'm trying not to be too specific about my job here, but I have a small budget to spend on getting people together to work on research ideas. I can't spend it unless I can persuade a bunch of people I work with back in the UK that the time is right. They only want to bring people together to work on research ideas if there's going to be a route to funding afterwards, and right now they are being very, very slow about agreeing those routes to funding. I have tons of ideas and many of them will come off next year, but I needed to get the money out of the door by March 31 and that's not going to happen. I should have started spending it on second-class ideas for events earlier in the year rather than holding out for the ones I wanted to come off.

ljubljana, Friday, 23 December 2011 05:29 (twelve years ago) link

And I allowed other pressing work stuff to get in the way. I am a terrible, terrible organizer/deliverer of deliverables. When it comes to practical detail, I like starting things off and then for someone else to implement. Not possible most of the time in life.

-laid down in bed, felt lungs fill with fluid, had massive coughing fit to the point of seeing stars

-will be sleeping in computer chair tonight

-sometimes the only reasonable response to ppl is "get your head out of your ass" because the only conceivable way they could believe what they believe is if they had literally been staring at the insides of their rectums their entire lives

that wiener from Emearlds (step hen faps), Friday, 23 December 2011 08:22 (twelve years ago) link

but if someone had literally been staring at the insides of their rectums, and only the insides of their rectums, i'd think they'd have a very minimal set of beliefs.

And THEN yesterday after the work lunch, he said we could leave at lunch today, but he hasn't mentioned it again this morning and I don't know if I can just go or if I have to wait for him to bless and release us or what but I finished all the work I had and I'm not about to start a new case because I'll forget it all by the time I come back and and and WHY IS THIS HAPPENING TO ME????

There's a fireplace in the living room. We won't have the strength to clear out all of the things in front of it for Christmas, but we should have a fire lit for New Year's.

thanks, guys. i am feeling a lot of emotions right now -- relieved, because he'd given up on life months ago and wasn't really living anymore. but i'm also angry because he'd given up on life months ago and wasn't really living anymore when there was no huge health issue that meant he couldn't have some more good years. i guess the last few months have made me think a lot about elderly life and the mental health issues that come with growing old and not being as self-sufficient as you once were. it's really scary.

tehresa, Saturday, 24 December 2011 15:57 (twelve years ago) link

I'm sorry, tehresa. Much love to you and your family.

- just booked the B&B
- found a nice one one block from the French Quarter for a very reasonable rate
- leaves more $$$ for food, drink and other fun
- all of which I'll enjoy more if my legs and back don't give out on me

Sorry, T. My dad was 91 when he died and he had given up on life long before - even before he had health problems - that was really hard to deal with.

Wm, that's awesome re NOLA. I want to go again this winter, but I really should put myself on lockdown until I take an international trip (or just justify a visit with the saying about NOLA being the the nearest foreign land you can visit.)

Are you staying in The Marigny? I would love to live in that neighborhood - charm out the ass and really affordable.

Sandbox Jesse, Saturday, 24 December 2011 16:52 (twelve years ago) link
