i find hot liquor kind of repulsivemulled wine, etc
I like Glogg, but I was kind of ho-hum on the warm sake I had the other night. (Chilled is better, IMO.)
― jaymc, Monday, 19 December 2011 17:27 (twelve years ago) link
Had Glogg at Simon's on Friday after some xmas shopping and it was suitably festive.
Today is my last day before we leave for Connecticut and trying to care about work is proving to be very difficult.

Good luck with the interview! Wish I could FAP, but I will be driving to Ann Arbor Thursday night, weather permitting.

I am getting my hair done, which feels like a vain endeavor that I should gladly cast aside in favor of fellowship and libations but if I reschedule I won't be able to get another apt for at least a month and lord, you should see my roots now.
If y'all go somewhere nearby, I will stop by after.

Z, where are you staying? Do you want to meet at Delilah's? It's right by Jenny's house, so you should just crash at her place.

Where are you staying?
― Sandbox Jesse, Monday, 19 December 2011 18:44 (twelve years ago) link
i'll most likely be staying with a friend around Logan Square for Thursday night, but i still need to ask about that!

Hey, my neighborhood! You guys should hang out there, there are cabs now.

i'm flexible on time and location for a thursday night fap. it looks like Delilah's is pretty close to where i'm staying anyway, but if people want to try another place that's cool too.

Delilah's is convenient to Logan Square and if it gets Jenny there, I'd vote for it (it's right across the street from Jenny's beauty parlor).

Good luck, by the way.
There are more cabs in Logan Square than there used to be, possibly. The trendy restaurants have attracted more of them. Dan, your mention of it reminded me of something I know I told Katie, but I don't remember if I mentioned elsewhere.
One Sunday evening this spring, I left Katie's house, and because of the Diversey bus' ABSURD Sunday night schedule (stops running between the lake and Logan Square Blue line at 8 p.m. Sunday nights), I was stuck at Logan Square. I wandered and waited at the CTA stop for 1/2 hour and there were no cabs, so I called one to pick me up at Diversey and Kedzie. When I got in the cab, he said "What are you doing here??" I told him I was visiting a friend, to which he responded that "You are a very good friend if you come here," and then went on talking about cab drivers not liking that area.
As much shit as I've talked about Logan Square, I was really surprised at that guy's opinions. At the Square itself, there are a lot of bars and restaurants that would bring people to the area, and it wasn't like he was picking me up in front of a smoldering crack house.

USPS LOLz
As I was leaving for lunch at ~ 1:15, the line for the PO in my building was out the door and around the corner by the entrance to the GNC (so like half a block long). There was ONE cashier, and before her stood a man yelling (I could hear him as I walked past the open door) and waving his arms frantically.
On the way back from lunch, the line was out the door of the PO but no longer curled around by the GNC. There were two cashiers.

I'm struggling with a deadline for a project on Tuesday the 3rd. This deadline was chosen long ago by our clients so we're kind of stuck with it, but its turning into a nightmare because, for whatever reason, our firm is giving us Friday the 30th off but not Monday the 2nd. So we're here that day, but all our consultants on the project are off.

My work is extremely slow, as it always is around the holidays. Which is great, after the ridiculous 2 months we've had around here. And Liggy mentioned in passing that she was going to give herself and me bonuses. Hoping the Jerkstore firm is feeling generous after last week's trial victory and the hundreds of billable hours we put into it last month.

when sarah's out of town i watch lots of movies. last night i was really wiped out so i watched "scream." it was funny how many times they talk about the "cellular phone" in that movie. then last night and this morning i watched the david hyde pierce-starring horror/thriller/black comedy "a perfect host," which was pretty ridiculous but had some funny stuff in the middle and a complete unnecessary twist in the last 20 minutes.

So we are having lunch brought in today to celebrate the wedding of a coworker, which is super cool and so glad for free lunch. But we get an email five minutes before it starts saying, "please provide your own beverages". Except, we don't have a fridge to keep drinks in or vending machines anywhere in our building, so we'll all be stuck with water. How hard is it to plan to have beverages too when you get food catered?
― shakur rump (I left my login in El Sandboxo), Tuesday, 20 December 2011 17:41 (twelve years ago) link
What kind of beverages were you expecting? (I just drink coffee and water at work, but maybe that's just me.)
― jaymc, Tuesday, 20 December 2011 17:45 (twelve years ago) link
I typically drink water too, but like if we have an outside lunch presentation they usually bring a narrow selection of like sodas and juices. I'm weird, but I don't like drinking water with meals since I drink so much of it throughout the day.
― shakur rump (I left my login in El Sandboxo), Tuesday, 20 December 2011 17:48 (twelve years ago) link
I think it's reasonable to offer soda with a catered work lunch if you work at a for-profit, private sector place.
Linguists and language enthusiasts: I would like to talk about leaving the object off prepositional phrases beginning with "with." Examples: Do you want to come with? Just bring it with.
Specific questions: Where do people say this? My childhood BFF's PA Dutch grandmom said it all the time. Why have I started saying this now that I live in Chicago?
― wore glasses and said things (thejenny), Tuesday, 20 December 2011 17:55 (twelve years ago) link
I feel like I've heard that all over the place, really. I mean, I don't think I could pin it to a certain demographic without paying closer to attention to who says it.
I can say for 100% certain that the quickest way to annoy my wife is to end a sentence like that, particularly with "at".
― shakur rump (I left my login in El Sandboxo), Tuesday, 20 December 2011 18:04 (twelve years ago) link
Sentences ending in a superfluous "at" make me crazy. Just leave off the at!
The "come with" is a sin of ommission.
