Tape Store (Tape Store), Monday, 18 December 2006 22:42 (seventeen years ago) link

It's the step-by-step instructions that get me.

(That and the perfect wardrobing -- that mustard-colored button-down with the extra flap over the buttons is such perfect Color Me Bad action.)

nabisco (nabisco), Monday, 18 December 2006 22:42 (seventeen years ago) link

That and Maya Rudolph mouthing "thank you" with a deeply grateful look on her face.

this was pretty funny, but JT's real SNL masterpiece was that "Omletteville" skit last time he hosted.

M@tt He1ges0n (Matt Helgeson), Monday, 18 December 2006 23:40 (seventeen years ago) link

i missed it the last time he hosted. the homelessville thing makes more sense now duh.

grady (grady), Monday, 18 December 2006 23:44 (seventeen years ago) link

See, the key there to lack of LOLs are the words "nerf" and "herder."

David RER (Frank Fiore), Monday, 18 December 2006 23:44 (seventeen years ago) link

nabisco OTM. The awesome Structure-circa-1992 outfits, round tortoise-shell glasses, and sweet 98-Degrees beards killed me (and yes, Mr Show did some of this too).

And of course "Put your junk in that ba-ah-ocks"

And the bit where he's tickling what's-her-name with the feather and she starts to get visibly annoyed.

schwantz (schwantz), Monday, 18 December 2006 23:49 (seventeen years ago) link

Dry Eyes was a great bit.

grady (grady), Monday, 18 December 2006 23:52 (seventeen years ago) link

Nerf Herder = free pass for Buffy-theme associations
Structure = sometimes I wish I had some overalls so I could wear one strap off the shoulder
"Put your junk in that box" = terrifically sung, too, is the thing
Other funny thing of this weekend, apparently = Hip-Hop Kidz ("I think dancing may be the worst possible call, yo.")

nabisco (nabisco), Monday, 18 December 2006 23:57 (seventeen years ago) link

Also I think the biggest part of the funniness here is that if someone was like "I got you a present, girl ... it's my dick" that would be totally lame, whereas these guys are like "no, look, I wrapped it and everything, it's a dick in a box." These are guys who understand the value of presentation.

u guys are all roffle mid 90s sleezebag outfits but judging from how fucking inanely tone deaf that show is i don't doubt that they think that's how those guys still dress.

grady (grady), Tuesday, 19 December 2006 00:33 (seventeen years ago) link

These are guys who understand the value of presentation.

you're saying they should go into food service?

this was not funny, andy richter 10x better, brief glimpse of justin i caught made me ask why he exists again, etc etc, except this could maybe be salvaged if someone appropriate is brought in to do the layne staley version

I am 37, so I actually have a reference point for when SNL was funny, so don't give me no jive about this swill being amusing. Get one standards.

You know that JT knows better.

Also, agree that Natalie Portman cursing is not funny. Very first-level. This clip works in at least a couple of ways at once, and it's damn funny.

Lighten up, Francis.

whoop de doodle (kenan), Tuesday, 19 December 2006 01:28 (seventeen years ago) link

That DIAB song is pretty catchy but I guess only because the chorus is Baby Come Back by Player. Kinda sad that Justin Timberlake is so much funnier than the actual SNL cast guy who's just sort of... there.

walterkranz (walterkranz), Tuesday, 19 December 2006 01:33 (seventeen years ago) link

jt not writing show picking costumes

jhoshea (jhoshea), Tuesday, 19 December 2006 01:33 (seventeen years ago) link

I would guess that Samberg knows better, too, then.

whoop de doodle (kenan), Tuesday, 19 December 2006 01:35 (seventeen years ago) link

jt not writing show picking costumes

neither the writing nor the costumes are particularly funny. Timberlake's facial expressions and little gestures are pretty hilarious though. I mean you have two dudes working side by side with the same material and one gives a funny performance, one doesn't.

walterkranz (walterkranz), Tuesday, 19 December 2006 01:38 (seventeen years ago) link

JT = an inspiring story of show business struggle and total redemption.

whoop de doodle (kenan), Tuesday, 19 December 2006 01:40 (seventeen years ago) link

I don't think that DIAB is that funny, but "Diddy Kiddies" is fucking HI-larious.

Jay (jaymacke), Tuesday, 19 December 2006 01:42 (seventeen years ago) link

i thought it was pretty funny.

and yeah, the costumes + the step-by-step is what does it.

JT was infinitely funnier and more convincing than Jimmy Fallon in the awful Beegees talk show sketch, and he barely even did anything.

Hurting (A-Ron Hubbard), Tuesday, 19 December 2006 04:29 (seventeen years ago) link

Yeah, Jimmy Fallon is funnier in context. In the context that he left the show, but keeps hovering around it because he's far too lousy to do anything else, and this is all he he has, and GIMME A JOB PLEASE! PLEASE! ANY JOB! That's fucking funny.

whoop de doodle (kenan), Tuesday, 19 December 2006 04:33 (seventeen years ago) link

yeah, it looked like he was trying to cram three shows worth of energy into one sketch.

grady (grady), Tuesday, 19 December 2006 04:41 (seventeen years ago) link

Man, that guy stinks so bad that I think if I saw him on the street I think I'd feel compelled to tell him, and not even in a hassling way so much as a friendly advince get-a-different-job sort of way.

PTC: Not a Fan Of Boxes

http://www.comcast.net/data/entertainment/eonline/images/news/2006/12/22/2006/12/22/br-48627.jpg

...As of Friday, more than 4 million people had watched the clip on YouTube, with countless others taking it in through NBC's official site, much to the dismay of the PTC.

"This is a new low for NBC," PTC President Brent Bozell said in a statement. "Clearly, the network will stop at nothing to find loopholes for its indecent programming to reach the public..."
