George Whitman is dead??? Aw, I knew he was ailing but that's so sad. Always wanted to stay at S&Co.

My bff in second and third grade (we moved to a new school and then moved again - I was not a fickle child) had a whole conceit wherein eye floaters were angels, and one in particular, named Maybe-Maybe-Not, would talk to us a lot.
I can also unfocus my vision to the extent Jesse described upthread.
I cannot make that whooshing sound when I yawn, but I can press on my tear ducts and make my eyeballs squeak loud enough that people in the same room but not sitting next to me can hear it.

"Ellison, we're going to need you to unfocus your vision and then make that whooshing sound on your temple as much as you possibly can, to be frank. Any chance you can stay late tonight?"

Anyone ever see something that looks like a drop of light dropping down from a doorframe?
Why from a doorframe?

OMG yes I get this sometimes!
Glad I'm not the only one! I've no idea why it's from doorframes, it just is. Usually from an open doorway into a dark room, I see something dropping very fast. I've checked for water lots of times and there's nothing there.
― kinder, Friday, 16 December 2011 01:02 (twelve years ago) link
It sounds like it's a reflection, or light through a gap between the door and the frame, when the door is not perfectly straight and vertical. As you move the light reflection (or view through a gap) slides up or down.
― nickn, Friday, 16 December 2011 01:17 (twelve years ago) link
No, it's an open doorway, usually the open side so the door isn't there. It's probably something similar though.

As of August 2011, Danish filmmaker Nicolas Winding Refn was attached to direct the remake of Logan's Run with actor Ryan Gosling attached to star.[18] Refn and Gosling had recently worked together on the 2011 thriller Drive.

Oh sorry you meant an actual doorframe? I thought you meant just the light looking that way: I'll get a thing in the corner of my rght eye where a vicous blob of light will pulse down the very far right of my vision, a little as if it was in fact light shining thry a crack in a door - but I can see it in all kinds of random situs, not just when looking at a door.

Are acid flashbacks really a thing or is that like the whole "seven times and you're legally insane" hallucinogen mythos?
― wore glasses and said things (thejenny), Friday, 16 December 2011 03:43 (twelve years ago) link
they are really a thing!
― rrrobyn, Friday, 16 December 2011 03:45 (twelve years ago) link
tho i think it's more like a vivid memory suddenly encroaching on present reality
― rrrobyn, Friday, 16 December 2011 03:47 (twelve years ago) link
I'll tell you why I ask: back when I used to do a lot of hallucinogens, I would often see animals scurrying around in my peripheral vision. It happens once in a great, great while now, but not even remotely with the frequency or intensity that it used to (notably once asked someone what their dog's name was only to be met with a blank stare and "I don't have a dog..."). I always chalked it up to drugs, but then I started to post about it vis a vis light in doorways and wondered if I was just going to sound totally crazy.
― wore glasses and said things (thejenny), Friday, 16 December 2011 03:49 (twelve years ago) link
I've never had a vivid memory suddenly encroaching on present reality, though (thankfully. I would probably not handle that well). Just peripherally scurrying critters.
― wore glasses and said things (thejenny), Friday, 16 December 2011 03:50 (twelve years ago) link
peripheral creatures, i am familiari think hallucinogens taught me a lot about how time/space and memory works. i mean, in a really unscientific way.

- it has been raining all day and for part of the day i feel like i did nothing, because i was tired but also just a bit bleah, like, i actually watched four or five episodes of The Unit (i know i know; i have a thing for this show) on netflix and in between did work/"work". and ate noodles. and felt horribly lazy. - but then pulled myself up and did some reading but not any tidying which is what i kinda need to do- and then a friend said we needed to go rock climbing and we went and it was AWESOME and i feel ALIVE again. it had been two weeks since last climbing, which is wrong and makes it more difficult to warm up but i did hard things and now my arms feel like they can hardly deal with holding a mug of tea but it's all A-OK :)

Those of us dorks who enabled the damn thing in October had a lengthy discussion on reg ILX about how to hide stuff and what people can and cannot see. If ILX were here I'd show you. :( It's not as bad as it seems if you already have your privacy controls set to the safer side.

No pressure. I respect your decision and it's not like I'm aggrieved for something I need; more like I lived a season in Eden and I'm now spoiled.
