there's a couple of back rooms in Pole Position, for private dances. Just spend a bit of time in them and it'll become an asset. No proper missions unfortunately

contact is pretty ok! cooking and fishing take a little too long. lots of grinding if you feel like grinding but after you reach a certain level the enemies just start running away.

I've been playing it with the sound off, though. compared to yoshi's island the music & sfx leave a lot to be desired.

Anybody tried pokemon mysterious dungeon yet?

the new-ish DS castlevania
so far it's really similar to dawn of sorrow and pretty formulaic... but it's a good formula! and really polished overall like the others.

I keep getting thrown out of Hotel Dusk. I'm not used to these "GAME OVER" scenarios, esp. when the character goes all weepy and emo boy. At least in Katamari, the king would yell some wonderful abuse instead of the prince going "oh, i'm a useless piece of crap i'm no good at this i should just go hole up in my room and brood".

I spent all weekend playing Terranigma for SNES, via emulator. I was about 12 hours in, and then the ROM froze up. It can't get past a certain part without freezing. Even when I waste time by playing old school RPGs, I end up wasting my wasted time.

To add insult to injury, the last line the guy says to me before it freezes is "The show is over."

Pole position at vice city - to complete the asset, you have to spend a certain amount of money on a private dance in the back room. It's really tedious, I wound up getting Tommy V into the back room, starting off the dance, then going for my dinner, leaving it running. It's like watching wood warp.

Docks in Vice City - there's a pay and spray, I _think_ an 8-ball mechanics place where you can get a car turned into a carbomb, some hidden objects, one of the printer missions starts off there, and the boatyard asset. IIRC one of the buildings there actually has an interior that is inaccesible, suggesting there might have been some other mission there that got left out. I read somewhere that it was one of the Pastor Richards missions that got cut b/c the actor died, I think that was just speculation though.

Cheers Ste, that worked a treat. Having a terrible time with the mission involving other criminals in disguise!

I am trying to track down a copy of Shadow of The Colossus here, nowhere seems to have first hand copies anymore. Gamespot don't have any second hand copies either!

Cheers Pash. I haven't reached Pastor Richards yet. I find the Checkpoint Charlie mission in the boat a pain in the face. Still, must persevere. Saving up for the Printing Works!

another bit on the Left Behind game, where the gamemakers are spamming blog comment sections, claiming the game teaches "verbal defense," etc

If you like, here's Focus on the Family's review of the game:

Eternal Forces is a real-time strategy (RTS) resource management game that focuses on a handful of boroughs in New York City. There you're challenged (through 40 lengthy missions) to evangelize the people of the Big Apple, house them, feed them and find ways to stay alive while the enemy does its best to take over the city and crush you underfoot. You start out with a few people (units) in your control, send them out to gather resources (money and real estate) and train them up to become musicians, builders, nurses, pastors, disciples and soldiers, each with his or her own function for the community and impact on the world...

See, even tho it's an RTS with guns and violence n' shit, it's actually just like Sim City!

kingfish in absentia (kingfish), Tuesday, 13 February 2007 18:33 (seventeen years ago) link

ack, sorry, there aren't any pastor richards levels in the game. supposedly there were going to be some, but the voice actor died and they got pulled. Argh, I'm totally obsessed with "vice city".

Norman Phay (Pashmina), Tuesday, 13 February 2007 18:37 (seventeen years ago) link

so as it turns out, Kid Icarus being released on the Wii Virtual Console causes my brain to start playing back the chorus from Mister Mister's biggest hit ever, over and over again, right down to the wanky e-piano chime sounds and all that shit. Fuck Kid Icarus.

Do WWF/WWE games have swearing in them? The kids want a wrestling game.

(TS Exposing your children to violence vs letting them hear someone say 'asshole', I know)

onimo (nu_onimo), Wednesday, 14 February 2007 13:26 (seventeen years ago) link

They shouldn't, should they? I mean the whole thing is pretty PG I would have thought.

Pash, someday I'll forgive you for leading me on like that with the promise of more missions. It'll take a while though, I hope you understand.

I am very sorry, kv_ I do find the missing bits from computer games weirdly fascinating, especially when the gap shows a little bit.

I saw the DVD of the movie of "Doom" in Woolworths this evening. 3.99. I was tempted (for teh lulz) but resisted.

I ordered one anyway - it's rated 16+ but I think it's only for the violence going by the wee symbols.

have been getting back into VCS again, i can't play it for long periods of time though. It's taking forever to finish.

Just finished two bizarre missions: ** SPOILERS **
Domestapod, control the robot around the house performing chores and trying to find the safe. Fucking long winded and hard, play 'mastermind' trying to solve the four digit safe code.

Protect Phil Collins while he's singing In The Air Tonight. HAHA this is like a full live performance of Phil where he walks around the stage singing until he arrives to his drum kit or that kick ass drum riff. Anyway, knock fuck out of the guys trying to unscrew the roof rig that would fall on Phil's sorry head.

Ste (fuzzy), Friday, 16 February 2007 09:16 (seventeen years ago) link

There's no swearing in the WWE games, though in one of the recent ones if somebody went through a table the crowd would chant "HOLY (pause)! HOLY (pause!)"

Okami's alright ennit?

Michael Annoyman (Michael Annoyman), Friday, 16 February 2007 09:23 (seventeen years ago) link

Ste that sounds like a mission I'd enjoy failing!

Well so long as it's only the violence then Noodle :)

still stuck on the same two missions i mentioned on the main site - i'm gonna leave it and go back later. i now own ALL the businesses. surely the sharks and bikers should have dissolved by now?

onimo (nu_onimo), Friday, 16 February 2007 14:37 (seventeen years ago) link

no, breakaway props are made with balsa, but they're also built differently from yr avg table/chair/etc.

kv_nol (kv_nol), Friday, 16 February 2007 16:11 (seventeen years ago) link

Those breakaway props are a bit expensive. Kids'll need to make do with real steel chairs.

onimo (nu_onimo), Friday, 16 February 2007 16:32 (seventeen years ago) link

ECW would occasionally show what happens when non-gimmicked tables were used, and Fit Finley put his foot thru a formica table in WCW, which cut up his leg/knee so badly it kept him out of the ring for 7 years.

I think half the time they'd just take saws to the thing, and score 'em up real good.

xp watch some backyard wrestling vids to see what happens with that
