Staking a claim as the best of the teams with a negative goal differential. Woohoo.

FourFourTwo look pretty stupid for only putting Rooney at six in their list now. Phil Jones should have been top five as well

EyeOfTheGuy on Twitter: "Alex Song must surely be recognised now as the best in his position in the league? World class again today."
didn't know sam was on twitter.

Arsenal. Played well enough, but jeez they squander a lot. Gervinho is useful because fast, but makes Walcott look ruthless. Song was fine but this was no masterclass. Rvp had an unremarkable day. Ramsey's good, he spots things early. The defence looked pretty poor, when Everton did solidify second half they were under pressure *a lot*.
What a goal though. I spend most of my time cursing people for not seeing passes straight away, not taking chances early & wasting them. I felt vindicated to see rvp do just that.
Everton. A little bit unfortunate to lose. Fellaini their best player by a distance, he knits everything together for them, has most composure, most vision, everything. When Saha went off and he went up front he was their best forward too. He's a bit Zidaney, actually. Cahill's good for what he is, very sticky. Baines and Coleman are decent though Coleman looks slow and I'd be working hard on his speed off the mark if I were his coach.
They're all decent really, but I'd fear for them without Fellaini, they'd be a side who could go down in a bad year.
They also brought on two lads whom I'd never heard of, Gueye and McAleny, both of whom showed a bit of spark.
Ground's nice if atmosphere-lite, but the queues for drinks were long and I could really have used a bovril today.

tbh i always thought of zidane as a proto-fellaini
― nakhchivan, Saturday, 10 December 2011 18:16 (twelve years ago) link
IK, you are right about Fellaini, he was by far the best Everton player. I was really underwhelmed by their defending attitude, but thinking about it again, I just don't think Everton can do any better.
― lebateauivre, Saturday, 10 December 2011 19:11 (twelve years ago) link
Damn, RVP's goal was magnificent.
― Number None, Saturday, 10 December 2011 19:16 (twelve years ago) link
It's funny, but when Everton took Saha off and replaced him with Distin they suddenly began matching Arsenal. They'd been defensive 'til then, but by pushing Fellaini from a Lucas role to an Adebayor role they became far more threatening. Maybe simply because Fellaini can win and hold the ball - Saha did nothing.

i am but i only at 2 in the morning, liveblogging wrestling, so this isn't me.
tbh he didn't do much today. well except the ball for rvi for the goal.
i agree about fellaini. he's a remarkably odd player tho, 'adebayor as a defensive midfielder'. i think the only place he wld suit, if he were to make the step up, wld be united.

can't help but feel barca could do with a target man up front. they lack a 35m presence from free kicks.

to clarify my earlier comment, when benzema scooped that shot wide past higuain (i think) the sky commentator said to gerry armstrong: "pomo, gerry, pomo!" which sounded like "homo".
then he said "position of maximum opportunity" and gerry armstrong didn't raise any surprise at thsi, and his tone sounded like it was a stock phrase that everyone knew.
― SandboxGarda (HI IT'S RONAN), Saturday, 10 December 2011 22:55 (twelve years ago) link
Yep, both me and my flatmate thought he said homo. Bizarre

likewise, really one of the weirdest things i've ever heard watching a game.
