ok dudes

what if it was about the beginning of time? but only, the beginning of time is also the end of time for this declining Grand Epoch. the first song, and first half is called "The Inauguration of Time" and begins out of the fadeout of some song you never hear the rest of. then, there's a giant bong rip. the bubbly noise starts to reverb and delay repeat out of control, until it pitches up into a hightone squeal - of mother nature, who is now lashing back at the evils of mankind, who have gradually grown into a loud den of noise distorting out of the initial giggles from the bong rip earlier in the song. The second and final half is called "Albequerqee", and is all about Albequerqee, MT, and how much they hate getting mixed up with Albuquerque, NM, although it's nice to get the occasional accidental tourist who didn't do enough research, can't complain about that.

then just put everything recorded in reverse and release it

i think the Evil Guide Dog also should function as a Chiron character. And in the end Evil Guide Dog battles Cerberus - as they have a mythic feud over the possession of a particular bitch.

This is why sandbox is superior to FB-ILX: If ZS had posted the promising "I'm drunk" thread here he wouldn't ave been able to delete it like he did over there.

My boss is trying to download a ruling from the US court's website using Chrome, which has a very hard time with PDFs on that site (it tries to save them as Perl Script files). I said he had to use IE, not Chrome. He said "WHAT IS CHROME???" (venting, but can't find an "IA" thread)

Sandbox Jesse, Friday, 9 December 2011 18:21 (twelve years ago) link

I told him it was the browser he was using, and he didn't know what a browser was. I said he needed to use Internet Explorer, and he said he WAS using "an internet explorer."

dayo, Friday, 9 December 2011 18:30 (twelve years ago) link

lol odds are the actual link is a Perl script that finds and serves up the appropriate PDF to the browser

Is he loading the PDFs into the browser window and trying to save them from there or is he right-clicking on the links? Try having him load the PDFs first if he's doing the latter.

OH NOES, Friday, 9 December 2011 18:31 (twelve years ago) link

I use Chrome, but I figured out a reacharound for the problem. Maybe I should tell him how to do it.

OK, bossy, you start by inspecting the element on the page.....

Nah, she took the test and I don't really care what she was doing at 3:41am.

league of women voters, Friday, 9 December 2011 18:46 (twelve years ago) link

one time in college, i had a psychedelic night, and at about 3 or 4 am, in the midst of being terrified by the shivering demonic blinds in my bedroom, i realized that i was supposed to work at 9 am and that i would probably still be in a circle of hell at that time. i decided that the best thing to do would be to call a co-worker of mine (same age as me and totally cool, but also the 9am shift manager) and let her know that there was no way i could come at 9am. i believe the reasoning was a) by informing her in the middle of the night i could peacefully go to sleep without having to worry about it, b) it would give her more time to find a last-minute replacement, and c) my inability to come in would seem more real than if i called an hour before. or something like that.

anyway, i woke her up near 4am and engaged in a very bizarre conversation. at one point she asked if i needed medial attention or if she should come over and i was like "nooo!! NO! i'm fine! i just need to be alone!", or whatever.

- spent $$$ today and not really sure what on, only have some wrapping paper and a handful of stocking fillers to show for it
- did not see and nearly barged into old lady while running for bus, felt terrible
- in last minute old-lady-avoidance actually barged into 2 younger women who made loud remarks about how the fat impatient woman was deliberately running into old ladies, could hear them all the way down the street as my bus left without me, felt more terrible
- flaked out of thing i'd been looking fwd to, in favour of sitting on the sofa musing on terribleness
- sigh
- hello sandbox

oops

league of women voters, Friday, 9 December 2011 23:53 (twelve years ago) link

lol I have been doing/not doing that, it has been a wonderful christmas for me so far

Never translate German (schlump), Friday, 9 December 2011 23:59 (twelve years ago) link

one thing that's nice about never celebrating christmas growing up is never having to worry about getting other people xmas presents... I guess

it's nice to give and receive presents though

dayo, Friday, 9 December 2011 23:59 (twelve years ago) link

my dad's thing w/presents is "if you want to get someone a present, you should get them a present", as in that's a nice thing to do, a nice impulse, & to tether it to anniversaries etc is weird. he usually does not know when it is his birthday.

my parents had a nice rationale: "dan we buy you stuff all throughout the year, why should christmas be any different"

dayo, Saturday, 10 December 2011 00:03 (twelve years ago) link

your parents are so extremely pragmatic
i love it

my excuse was that i would listen to the records and if i didn't like one of them (or liked it only a little) it would become a gift
such generosity for the christchild! (so far i like every thing and one of them would make an unsuitable gift for anyone but me so, back to the drawing board i guess)

league of women voters, Saturday, 10 December 2011 00:14 (twelve years ago) link

Gift giving/receiving is so stressful. My parents have been very vocal about their financial worries, but when I suggest we dispense with gift giving, my mom gets all freaked out about how it will ruin Christmas. I did at least convince her that now that we're all adults, it's okay to reduce the gift giving significantly.

This year I told her all I wanted was a case of frozen, half-baked Nic-o-bolis and some scrapple so we'll see if she goes for it.

hello aimless<3, i hope you're having a nice december.

ll, i feel so sorry for you grading dismal papers, i have done my fair share of that, it's completely exhausting and dispiriting.

pyth, your short hair is beautiful.

jenny, my family now have a policy that each person gives and receives one gift only, it has made things much easier and more fun for everyone. the names are drawn from a hat. there is a price limit. it works well.

estela, Saturday, 10 December 2011 01:23 (twelve years ago) link

my family now have a policy

We have been doing this for a long time and it also works well for us. It requires that there be no little children in the mix, but otherwise it is a winner all the way.

My december has been wonderific. I have not revelaed this elsewhere to the ilx hivemind, but I am not working as a school bus driver this year, voluntarily. The plan is for me to return to the grind next September at the start of the new school year. This pleases me down to my toesies.

Aimless, Saturday, 10 December 2011 01:31 (twelve years ago) link

Yep we started doing the one gift thing too, cut down even more, we do it as a kris kringle, so everyone buys for one other family member only. Littlies excepted tho, and shit i havent gotten anything for the kids yet argh. But having to buy just for one brother and thats it is a releif, i dont have tons of money. My parents just retired and are a bit skint too so we're basically all "we're all old now, presents, meh dont worry". Its good.

My sister still sends me presents, but no one else does. (Christmas is considered something done for the sake of the children in my family, so everyone stops celebrating it when the kids leave home.) We're going to get a box of cards to send everyone Monday after we sell another load of copper and aluminum. Anyone want me to send them one?
