Anyhoo:- went to doc about worrying skin cancer potentiality- relieved to find out is just "age spots", ha (tho I do have some other spots I need to watch)- while at doc, mentioned my psoriasis and itchy ear and strange deafness- ... apparently I have a fucking perforated eardru, and now I think about it, probably have done for a long time- no wonder I cant hear :(

ahhh i went to that place once, i was thinking of it earlier, i remember coming out & feeling this weird absence of specific memories relating to the previous three hours of my life because it had been so totally like ... physical, w/no cerebral input whatsoever, it was me just being like JJUHHHHHHHRRRRRRRRrrrrr for a few hours in various hot rooms. there was a cavernous one in which a woman was being beaten w/plant leaves that still occasionally freaks me out when i remember itxp
― Never translate German (schlump), Wednesday, 7 December 2011 22:35 (twelve years ago) link
i was not beaten with plant leaves nor did i see any plant leaves beatings but i did see the sticks with leaves on them.there is also a big sauna room (there are 5 rooms + a v cold pool) that is so hot i sat in it for 1.5 minutes before it felt like my skin was on fire. you are supposed to dump buckets of water over yourself in there.
― rrrobyn, Wednesday, 7 December 2011 22:40 (twelve years ago) link
yeah, that sounds kinda familiar, again my brain was not really making memories through the hours i was there, it is just a hazy memory of being in various states of supreme bodily shutdown
― Never translate German (schlump), Wednesday, 7 December 2011 22:46 (twelve years ago) link
it was def good tho & would go again. i got into a weird grudging haggling thing over membership w/the guy who ran it, who i also later heard crazy stories about

Also just read upthread and bit puzzled at anyone reacting with massive freaking out over a bit of wee, ffs. Lots of people have kids? And little kids like, you know, wee everywhere and it gets on you all the time?
Also, cats? (the amount of cat poo and urine Ive had to handle in my life... ugh)
― Leave town with an orange, and pretend you're laughing at it. (Trayce), Wednesday, 7 December 2011 22:51 (twelve years ago) link
yeah, it's especially weird to hear from somebody in a school setting. kids are nasty, and I would imagine anybody who's around them would be accustomed to a lot worse than a pee-soaked notebook. but i can also imagine an administrator making "a thing" on some weird grounds of decency or whatnot.

- my US residency status seems to be in jeopardy right now- probably in reality it isn't, but on paper it is- rational, objective brain knows that we will get through this- other part of brain is in constant state of low level anxiety

remy: yeah exactly, what a stupid reaction from the VP. Theyre kids! Wee and vomit just happens, yo.

I FEEL YOU BRUV
I was like, how the fuck did THIS happen, didn't have so many unused cloves that I was afraid they'd all go bad?!? And the answer was: Yes, but then Thanksgiving happened.
― OH GNUS (Pyth), Thursday, 8 December 2011 03:14 (twelve years ago) link
this is why i buy bags of peeled cloves and keep them in the freezer
― smoove operator, Thursday, 8 December 2011 03:20 (twelve years ago) link
I never thought to prepeel and freeze garlic. Thats genius. Can ytou just cut/cook it from frozen?
― Leave town with an orange, and pretend you're laughing at it. (Trayce), Thursday, 8 December 2011 03:32 (twelve years ago) link
i buy bags that are pre-peeled bc i am lazy! i keep it in an airtight container in the freezer, zap a few cloves in the microwave for 15 secs to defrost (or just take them out of the freezer a couple hours before cooking), then i'm good to go.
― smoove operator, Thursday, 8 December 2011 03:38 (twelve years ago) link
i'm sure it probably loses some potency, but it's working for me
OTM.
The Asian supermarket sells 1lb. tubs of peeled garlic for ~$2.50.
BTW, TJ's smushed up jars of garlic paste are TERRIBLE. Why can't they just have normal minced garlic? I bought that paste when I still had a sense of smell and it smelled like methane.
xp- it thaws very quickly, so I never bother to thaw it at all.
It might not be good where raw garlic is called for, but cooked, it's A-okay.

many xposts - Q, good luck! Do you want the Major Promotion or are you Ambivalent?
― ljubljana, Thursday, 8 December 2011 03:46 (twelve years ago) link
Minced garlic inna jar is blechhh cos it has to be preserved with like vinegar or citric acid to stop spoilage and that gives it a taste :(
― Leave town with an orange, and pretend you're laughing at it. (Trayce), Thursday, 8 December 2011 05:24 (twelve years ago) link
(dried granulated garlic isnt too bad for emergencies tho)
(oops this isnt the cooking thread is it hahaha)
Good luck to Q with the job and J with the immigration hassles!

oh ok. I just don't want the takeaway to be "you're old" or "you have 80s hair"

is she old and does she have 80s hair
― nakhchivan, Thursday, 8 December 2011 16:01 (twelve years ago) link
im p sure there are at least some ppl who are old and have 80s hair and who look great
― nakhchivan, Thursday, 8 December 2011 16:02 (twelve years ago) link
yeah kinda depends but overall it would sound like "you're petite and ripped" or "you have a square jaw and blonde hair" at the worst, i thinkand neither of those things are fundamentally bad
once i told a girl she looked like a young liza minelli, which to me was a huge compliment because she was super cute, but the girl only knew old liza. i held my ground and told her to gis because she really looked exactly like her here, ie insanely cute
