- went to a sweet wreath making party had some drinks made a p lame wreath but its still nice enough to hang on our front door
- made fun plans for dinner tomorrow
- hung out had drinks met some cool ppl feel better abt life/everything
- just wish it would stop raining

In other news I wish secrette 77 tchr thread existed too bcz today was a whopper. The part I can say is I was trying to get rid of a urine-soaked notebook and during this quest I ran into the vice prncpl. I was in panic mode so instead of being discrete I asked, "Where can I throw away this notebook? It has urine on it." His reaction made me feel awful.
I have tried to console myself by saying
if another school asks about me (during hiring)
and this story is retold
and that school chooses not to hire me
then I don't want to work for that school
I want to work for a school where they view getting rid of a urine-soaked notebook as a problem that needs to be solved
not where trying to throw one away is met with 'ewww you are grossing me out'
you have to handle them to get rid of them
I want to work for someone who thinks that is true
I did not soil the notebook
I am probably overreacting to this
so many things happened today but that notebook was really #1 weirdest

i think your way of thinking about this incident is correct and also eff that dude imo.

Good parts:
- I was nice to the kid who had the notebook and solved the problem quickly
- None of the other students knew what had happened or complained about the smell
I am just so neurotic about dealing with stinky objects –– I also understand urine is unhealthy and odious on a non-smell level, but the VP was really giving me a hard time about willingly handling something so stinky. I could keep saying a lot of things about how & why but it's been this bad feeling I can't shake all day.

abbott i find it hard to believe a urine soaked notebook isnt a common occurrence in a school. maybe VP had other troubles on her mind and just didnt want to deal with it. what was her reaction btw?

also i had some unpleasant run-ins with the principal at my first student teaching placement last year and they felt awful in the thick of teaching, when i could hardly catch a breath to get some perspective but now that that intensity is over i can see that she was just miserable. it makes me mad that she had that job, but it didn't affect me in the longterm.

Abbott it sounds like you handled that perfectly fine. I mean, what else were you supposed to do? That guy sounds dumb.

I hate saying this, but you really shouldn't have been carrying around an item soaked in human bodily excretions, esp. if it was dripping wet. You didn't have a garbage/shopping bag available to wrap it in?

No, I've just been working in health care for a decade. You're not paid enough to take the chance of getting sick. I understand that you did what you had to do, though, and I don't fault you for doing it.

and that you have no idea
how long it has been there
and that you have to bleach
and purell and bleach again
and eventually take a shower
and clip your nails a little
before you can feel clean again

and not let on how icked out you are.

I used to work with developmentally delayed kids and once in a store one of the kids pulled an entire turd out of his pants. I took him by the wrist (same logic as holding a snake right under its head) and walked him to the bathroom to deal with it. I could have yelled or lectured or told him he was awful and gross and unhealthy, or hemmed and hawed and wished I had a plastic bag, but I didn't. You have to work with what you have at the moment and solve the problem. I did tell the kid while we were in the bathroom that this is the place you go when you need to poop.

Christine - isn't urine pretty sterile? Given the situation it sounds like Abbott did exactly the right thing and I know I would have done the same.

It's awful an dismal out today but it's Wednesday which is sort of close to the weekend which is nice.

Couple of my friends surprised me with tickets to see a John Waters 1 man Christmas show on Sat night. Psyched.

goddam u. i waited too long to get tix to that and then they were too expensive, and now i am sad. also, apparently, missed him signing books at the coop by about 20 minutes.

Well, two people cancelled so they have extra tickets they're trying to get rid of! Want me to find out how much they would want for them?

i was once pooped on by another kid, and the school didn't do a very good job of helping me out at all. i would have loved to have had an abbbottt helping me out that day!
