Oblivion, maybe? It's more Fantasy though. You're best off looking at PC games for that kind of thing (if you have a gaming PC, obv).

My kids were fighting about a Lego Star Wars 2 game yesterday and ended up pulling the PS2 off the shelf and scratching the disk to fuck. Now LSW2 doesn't load and the machine's making funny whirring noises (or maybe it always has and I've just noticed because of what happened) loading other games :(

They've been banned from gaming for a week.

Anyway, scratch repair thingies: do they work or do I need to buy a new game?

Onimo has his finger in the stink (nu_onimo), Tuesday, 19 December 2006 13:47 (seventeen years ago) link

uh oh....how old is the ps2? i went through 4 of them since they came out all with the same problem...the dreaded disc read error. this may be a sign of things to come with your PS2...the whirring noise is one of the signs...

thebingo (thebingo), Tuesday, 19 December 2006 13:55 (seventeen years ago) link

Never tried one, so I'm as curious as you.

No gaming for a week? HARSH.
Surely you could've been a little less severe. No food for a week or something?

teh_kit (g-kit), Tuesday, 19 December 2006 14:01 (seventeen years ago) link

A week is a bit much! Come on!

nathalie (stevienixed), Tuesday, 19 December 2006 14:04 (seventeen years ago) link

I came home from work to discover all this and their mother had already decided on the week long ban (which ends in time for new XMas games!).

The PS2 is ancient, one of the old fat ones. I've had it for years and it was 2nd hand when I got it :) I tried a number of disks and they all loaded apart from the LSW2 game that was spinning in the drive when it was dropped and got scratched.

Mark wrote me a Christmas card with "Happy Christmas Dad. I'm very sorry for breaking your Playstation" and gave me it with tears welling up in his eyes and I felt terrible and wanted to go buy him a new Lego Star Wars game but the wife wouldn't let me. They've got to learn a lesson, apparently. She's right of course but it still sucks and it also means _I_ don't get to play Lego Star Wars until they save up for a replacement.

omg wai 2 brake kit's hart with Xmas card story, Onimo?

It was like that Calvin (from '& Hobbes') face when he's done something really bad and is scared to tell his Dad ;_;

Onimo has his finger in the stink (nu_onimo), Tuesday, 19 December 2006 14:17 (seventeen years ago) link

Yeah, I use that face on Kat all the time.

teh_kit (g-kit), Tuesday, 19 December 2006 14:19 (seventeen years ago) link

uh oh; I've now taken up trolling the local CL for used GBA/DS games in advance of getting my DS on thursday.

This won't end well.

kingfish in absentia (kingfish), Tuesday, 19 December 2006 16:15 (seventeen years ago) link

Oh, btw, after a hardcore online session last night, I totally recommend Clubhouse Games for DS. Multiplayer is awesomes fun, even with total randoms. I laid down some hardcore Darts pwnj on allcomers last night.

teh_kit (g-kit), Tuesday, 19 December 2006 16:18 (seventeen years ago) link

submitted for your consideration: NPR posted a list of kid-friendly games

(includes Elite Beat Agents, so it's probably good enough)

I am excited about finally beating Guitar Hero 1 on Expert and getting to the final five songs of Guitar Hero 2!

I wound up buying Marvel: Ultimate Alliance even though my knowledge of that canon is fairly marginal: I know that some of their characters are hilariously weird (MODOK!) and Spider-Man is a lot cooler in his funnybook context than he is in the daily newspaper comics. So it's sort of a crash course in Marvel Comics lore, and getting to form your own team is fun, as is beating the crap out of supervillains with Luke Cage and Ghost Rider.

Anybody here with experience of X3: The Reunion? This shit is impenetrable.

tissp! (tissp!), Tuesday, 19 December 2006 17:17 (seventeen years ago) link

I've often been tempted to buy X2 and now X3 in the past, but always back out due to lack of joystick.

teh_kit (g-kit), Tuesday, 19 December 2006 20:18 (seventeen years ago) link

oh shit i just found out my officemate is heading to Japan for the holiday! WHAT DO I HAVE HIM BUY!?! I'm thinking of giving him enough cash to invest in as many copies of "Osu! Tatakae! Ouendan" as they can fit in their baggage.

Right, I'm off to hunt for a Wii.

Wii will prevail, or something. I bet I dont find one tho. ;_;

disgusted that Sony has created a headphone socket on the PSP thats not a standard mini jack plug. But not surprised. I'm starting to hate Sony.

Ste (fuzzy), Wednesday, 20 December 2006 09:54 (seventeen years ago) link

Eh, I thought normal headphones fit but it had an extra doobry for for the remote control on the sony headphones. But it's been years since I used my PSP...

ledge (ledge), Wednesday, 20 December 2006 09:58 (seventeen years ago) link

hmm, i'll check again but no i couldn't find a socket last night. i want to bring it into work, but the sounds of Depeche Mode on VCS might not be to everyones liking. as they are twerps.

Ste (fuzzy), Wednesday, 20 December 2006 10:03 (seventeen years ago) link

Joystick not as essential for X3 as I imagined it would be--mouse control is pretty resonable. Reminds me of Wing Commander!

tissp! (tissp!), Wednesday, 20 December 2006 12:24 (seventeen years ago) link

yay your right ledge, i am stupid.

teh_kit (g-kit), Wednesday, 20 December 2006 13:24 (seventeen years ago) link

Now that I've "completed"* Twilight Princess I'm not sure what I'll do. It has been such a satisfying, beautiful, fun game.

*"completed" only applies to primary story arc, there are still a shit ton of sidequesty type things I can and will do

Work's shiny cleany scratch repair thingy made my Lego Star Wars disk shiny and clean and scratched :(

I'll try loading it again when I get home but I'm not hopeful.

neet:

Anticipated to ship in Spring 2007, Line Rider for the Nintendo DS™ and Nintendo Wii from inXile entertainment will retain all the fun and thrills of the addictive Web version, but will also include new added features.

I hope this slovenian kid got himself some ironclad licensing deals, otherwise he's gonna get screwed out of a potential lifetime financial source, Tetris-style

how so? i wouldv'e thought the DS was more applicable.

Ste (fuzzy), Thursday, 21 December 2006 09:25 (seventeen years ago) link

Wii makes it more physical with big screen maybe? I dunno. Has anyone played the Family Guy game it's going cheap and I'm sorely tempted!

kv_nol (kv_nol), Thursday, 21 December 2006 09:30 (seventeen years ago) link

all the reviews say the game is shit, thus the cheap pricing so soon

a.b. (abanana), Thursday, 21 December 2006 16:54 (seventeen years ago) link

What, episode 1? I thought it was a fair length for $9 or so. bit much on trying to wring as many good-or-bad gags out of every interaction, but overall i liked it, and thought it much better than the Bone game.

kingfish in absentia (kingfish), Thursday, 21 December 2006 16:58 (seventeen years ago) link
