1. Focus attention on task A2. Perform Task A well3. Stand up, clear mind of Task A, get a drink of water, go to the bathroom, whatever4. Focus attention on task B5. etc
Employers who don't understand that step 3 is just as important in that sequence as 1 and 2 are the most disgusting savages.

The other issue is that Wm's list is on the perfect-world side, as far as my reality is concerned. Real world looks more like:
1. Focus attention on task A2. Starts to perform Task A well3. Boss stops by to ask about detail of task A. 4. Go back to task A5. Client calls with emergency6. Back to task A7. Boss calls b/c he needs to be taught to adjust margins in Word8. Task A

Yeah, I understand that I had my thumb on the scale a bit when I weighed my post. Is there any way to gently make boss aware that he's straight out of Dilbert Central Casting?

Oh, he knows that.

Ohioans, tell me about Barberton.Barberton is a shitpit. It's not as bad as Youngstown but is still a craptastic place to live. My HS history teacher was named Chuck Buck and taked constantly about the Barberton Beautification Committee.

and I didn't think my new sn would be too hard to figure out, considering 1. my soccer fandom and 2. the mex-ified name I post with in earlier parts of this thread, but I suppose for someone who's been out of the game for a while like Kelsey it's too much
btw Kelsey: do you go to the Minnehaha dog park? because I totally think I saw you there one time while visiting the cities but felt like it'd be crepey to roll up and be like "yo, you post on ILX? we met IRL like one time? what up?"
― Cuauhtemoc Blanco, Monday, 28 November 2011 21:34 (twelve years ago) link
Well, hello sarah through nick then!
I totally go to Minnehaha dog park! Our house is blocks away! When were you here?
― toes bonesly, Monday, 28 November 2011 21:35 (twelve years ago) link
and when did we meet? I'm sure many can attest to my horrible memory for all things.
― toes bonesly, Monday, 28 November 2011 21:37 (twelve years ago) link
this was in... August? we were there for my gf's nephew's 1st birthday party. they live a ways up Hiawatha from there but my lady knows the park well from many previous visits. it was quite an entertaining place for our big doofus.
I think we met at your going away party, actually! (it's Dan M. btw)
― Cuauhtemoc Blanco, Monday, 28 November 2011 21:37 (twelve years ago) link
Oh Dan! That would have been awesome if you said hello - next time!
― toes bonesly, Monday, 28 November 2011 21:47 (twelve years ago) link
you also recruited your friend to play on my soccer team. which was short-lived (his playing) but he was a good guy.
― toes bonesly, Monday, 28 November 2011 21:48 (twelve years ago) link
he still plays but he just got married so I think it might have slowed him down a bit
he also likes drinking beer and shouting at professional soccer players up in Blaine or whatever place Bachmann comes from
― Cuauhtemoc Blanco, Monday, 28 November 2011 21:49 (twelve years ago) link
He was really nice - he fit the spirit of our little misfit team quite well. Although, since I got knocked up another teammate took over the "management" of it & now it feels way more serious. Serious in the sense that we actually win games now. We never did that under my stellar leadership.

What did it crash into?
― thejenny, Tuesday, 29 November 2011 00:50 (twelve years ago) link
A car (late model Audi SUV) crashed into the bus. Bus was pulling out of a stop and the Audi tried to overtake it, and it collided at a narrow angle. It's the kind of wreck that you would think would happen more often.
Not at all exciting, but kind of annoying having to wait in the blustery air and then cram into a muggy bus. Life never gets any easier.
― Sandbox Jesse, Tuesday, 29 November 2011 02:08 (twelve years ago) link
I felt terrible for the poor sweet driver. She was so nice, and then when she crashed she said DAMN IT DAMN IT DAMN IT! And immediately apologized to the passengers for cursing. <3

― k3vin k., Tuesday, 29 November 2011 02:13 (twelve years ago) link
that IS the kind of accident i expect to see more often. cars really do not like to yield to buses!

I actually was not aware until earlier today (at work) that "X's namesake" could mean "someone that also has X's name" -- I thought it only meant "someone X was named after."
― jaymc, Tuesday, 29 November 2011 04:02 (twelve years ago) link
i think to be precise you're supposed to use "eponym" for the person or thing after whom/which the "namesake" is named
