It's kind of the same as on the PS2, ie better than the 360

Thanks, I've been hearing conflicting stories but your opinion seems to be the most common, roll on payday (Thursday at midnight for some reason).

jim (jim), Tuesday, 12 December 2006 22:14 (seventeen years ago) link

from our daily campus police report:

BLANTON DORMITORY, 2500 University Ave.
Fraud: A UT student reported that he had made the winning bid on an online auction site for a PlayStation 3 gaming console. The student anxiously awaited the delivery and soon discovered that he had gotten into a bidding war for pictures of a PS3. Loss value: $835.00

is viva pinata any good? i am thinking of buying a 360 at some stage and this would influence my purchase (in fact all 360 games that aren't 'run around and shoot people' would influence my purchase)

cousin larry bundgee (bundgee), Tuesday, 12 December 2006 22:51 (seventeen years ago) link

no, she doesn't, but i can make a recommendation based on But quick: I need a game with the same happiness as katamari, same calmness and more n.b. not horrific levels of violence. Any clues?

this is cutty (mcutt), Tuesday, 12 December 2006 22:58 (seventeen years ago) link

Well as long as no-one's gay, that's alright.

Andrew Farrell (afarrell), Tuesday, 12 December 2006 23:23 (seventeen years ago) link

I know it was way upthread but whaaaat? Abbie Herpe? She stole my first name, ferchrissakes, and got a stupid Suicide Girls look, gets mad points for playing Animal Crossing? I am mad at her because she is associating my fine Christian name w/an STD and stealing a pseudo-dreamjob.

Abbott (Abbott), Wednesday, 13 December 2006 02:41 (seventeen years ago) link

jahahaha wait do u know Abbie? it's HEPPE btw but Herpe is way funnier. i thought about trying to explain her to ILG once but i don't really know where to start.

Deep breaths... Your channeling GZeus!

Cheers Michael, I'll check out the Shadow of the Colussus. ICO sounds a little too involved for me.

The questions is: get myself a new PS2 after christmas in the sales or go for a Wii?

kv_nol (kv_nol), Wednesday, 13 December 2006 09:00 (seventeen years ago) link

Shadow of the Colussus is a little more hectic than ICO, though they are both awesome.

When does the HOUSE, M.D. game come out? Like Phoenix Wright but you're a huge dickhead and you have to argue about congenital disorders that only occur in 0.04% of the human race.

EXCITING.

I was going to do the Animal Crossing friends code on here but it all seems to have gone a bit loco with the menks so maybe not right now...

btw after playing through Chrono Trigger (3 diff endings so far too!) I can honestly say that Robo is totally my favorite. I love his one LaserSpin attack or whatever where he goes all disco ball Death Blossom on everyone.

Dragons (per the previous FAQ answer) (nklshs), Wednesday, 13 December 2006 22:17 (seventeen years ago) link

Back when I was renting(yes, renting) that game I used to go to my save(people were pretty civil about that back then) and change all their names to random things, messages...
You
Are
A
Horny
Anal
Probe

Robo was usually name Vibro, though.

So I'm sure this is total child's-play online flash-gaming to you nerds veteran-gamer masterlords, but I'm totally obsessed with this turn-based chess-style Tactics Online Arena thing, mostly because I can NEVER WIN, no matter what. (Okay I did win once.) Maybe I'm getting too distracted by chatting with the humor-impaired* 13-year-olds who constitute the main audience of this thing ("how old r u" / "29" / "daaaaaaamn"), but it's becoming a major quest for me.

* Humor-impaired = conversations like this, when my opponent has just killed another of my guys and I now have like 2 weak-ass characters left against his six dragons and super-powered witches and he's clearly slaughtering me:

ME: My plan is working perfectly.
ME: You're falling right into my trap.
THEM: okay
ME: I'm luring you into a false sense of confidence.
THEM: beat me, then
ME: The blood of my men will rust your swords until they prove useless.
THEM: i win in 2 moves
ME: You haven't counted on my invisible dragon cleric.
THEM: you can't get dragons without a gold account

Haha, me & the man always joke about a House M.D. game. You get extra points if the patient gets anal hemorrhaging. I think such a thing would be best suited to either a text adventure or a wacky series of mini-games about busting into clean rooms with offending parasites mid-surgery.

Abbott (Abbott), Wednesday, 13 December 2006 23:42 (seventeen years ago) link

Nabisco, that reminds me of my approximately 8-hour stint with Runescape. I spent a few hours going through the tutorial, then I spent about 4 hours reading a bunch of tips and studying maps online, getting my strategy ready. Then, about 20 minutes into the game, somebody walked up to me and said "How old are you?", and I said "23", and he said "LOL I'm 12"

Game over.

shadowrun!!

another emulator gem: Flashback. downloaded while pulling a bunch of shit from coolrom based on titles alone (of course mostly turning out to be untranslated japanese stuff) and wow! looks really great, really convincing visual style and sense and movement (a little prince of persia-y). i'd never heard of it before.

I just had a whack at Wii golf. Kinda fun! We've set it up in the office with a projector screen on the wall. I do like the intuitive feedback of the controller: it both vibrates and makes noises that totally tell your brain "you just hit a golf ball" or whatever. Quite suprised, I thought it'd feel a bit dinkyshit.

Trayce (trayce), Thursday, 14 December 2006 06:49 (seventeen years ago) link

And yes, I get away with playing Nintendos at my work it would appear. Aw yeah.

(Mind you, my bf actively HAS to play games all day long, part of his job, bastardface. etc etc)

I play Tribal Wars at work and the amount of crap on the forums or I get by email. LOL? Fuck you! SPEAK ADULT grrrrrrr!

I have decided to buy myself a Wii because I was told to. Ah, l'amour etc.

kv_nol (kv_nol), Thursday, 14 December 2006 09:53 (seventeen years ago) link

I'm sure I told this story on real ilx but whatever:

My dad plays WoW. He & some members of his guild were beginning to suspect that one of their members was but a kid. Their suspicions were confirmed when, as a raid went sour, on the chat channel, full of "fuck!"s and "god damnit!"s, that particular guild-member swore "TARTAR SAUCE!"*.

*note: "tartar sauce" is used as a swear word on Spongebob Squarepants (other Spongebob swears include: "fish paste!", "barnacles!", "dirty barnacles!")

has been plagued with problems since its erection in 1978 (nklshs), Thursday, 14 December 2006 15:06 (seventeen years ago) link

1. Military Madness will be coming out for the Wii VC.

2. Best Buy is releasing held-back Wii shipments this weekend, rumors are 40 units+ per store that they've been shoring up to boost sales.

TOM. BOT. (trm), Thursday, 14 December 2006 18:21 (seventeen years ago) link

haha. i just envision a legion of nerds converging on the stores like violent, junk-sick addicts, beating up store managers for holding out on them.
