i really hope this report about the UK virtual console isn't true though

Sorry, it is totally true. To make it worse, Australia/New Zealand don't even get TurboGraphix games or games like Mario RPG. Oh! Also, our games are like US$2-3 more than the superior NTSC versions US gamers get! Nintendo of Europe/Australia really are massive cunts.

I actually think the apex of gaming was Jet Grind Radio.

blastocsyt (blastocyst), Friday, 8 December 2006 12:53 (seventeen years ago) link

It's interesting to watch people bitch about virtual console licensing issues all over the world, now we can all share in the pain of lame copyright/trademark bullshit protectionism schemes fucking up our entertainment, perhaps this is part of a grand plan by Nintendo to get the consumers so worked up we finally demand a little fair play from the legislators and multinationals who force this ridiculous shit down our throats constantly. I, for one, await an actual legal english-text edition of Super Robot Taisen, and not the shite GBA nonsense they keep trying to push that doesn't even have fucking Gundam in it.

TOM. BOT. (trm), Friday, 8 December 2006 15:09 (seventeen years ago) link

Or we can just blame Nintendo for reminding us that living outside of Japan has been a third-class existence for video games enthusiasts since 1985.

TOM. BOT. (trm), Friday, 8 December 2006 15:10 (seventeen years ago) link

Good job I didn't buy that HDTV then!

Rumour hav it that you have to buy a US wii and download from the US wii store (which given strength of dolla, holla doesn't seem so bad apart from import schmimport etc) but I have 0 clue if THAT would then work with Old Cathode Ray Faithful. I guess. I don't know. I afford a wiiii anyway but luckily I have friends who can!

Sarah (Science of Unforunate Events), Friday, 8 December 2006 16:40 (seventeen years ago) link

Wii doesn't do HD anyway, so your old TV should be fine.

Someone is not helping:

Hot on the heels of the release of the Iraq Study Group Report -- and a day in which 10 U.S. servicemen were killed and at least 84 Iraqis were blown up or shot -- prospective presidential candidate Hillary Clinton will join with Joe Lieberman to hold a press conference today at 3 pm ET to announce the launch of a television PSA campaign about... video game ratings.

kingfish in absentia (kingfish), Sunday, 10 December 2006 22:58 (seventeen years ago) link

Yeah I've been playing it a lot too. Its one of the reasons we bought a HD tv, even. I havent even started the main quest yet! I've been having too much fun moving up the mages ranks and gettin' into Arcane Uni and stuff. Fingers of the Mountain spell! KABLAMMM

getting fingers of the mountain was awesome

get the book, give it to the wrong person, shock the column, get in trouble, steal book back from person and give to guild!

(hey ade, I cansen you the add-on package one of guild officers made up that works with the 2.0 patch if you want it... haven't figured out how all the mods in it work and a couple of them actively suck (grr fucking Pocket Gnome, I hate you) but it mostly works well and looks good)

Ste (fuzzy), Monday, 11 December 2006 11:22 (seventeen years ago) link

Oh noes! Had to give up on VC, it was dying at odd moments. Which is a pity because it is so beautiful. Tried Rugby 2004. I was embarrassed at how little I understood of the game after watching it for so many years!

Twilight Princess is killing me. Currently, I have no desire to play any other game.

Dragons (per the previous FAQ answer) (nklshs), Monday, 11 December 2006 16:03 (seventeen years ago) link

wiis are now selling for £400 on ebay, i'm having a hard time persuading myself not to sell mine & buy one again in the new year (+ loads of games virtual or otherwise with the extra money). Twilight Princess really is awesome. um. oh yeh theres a new GROW game up, not very complicated though - i finished it at the second attempt.

zappi (zappi), Monday, 11 December 2006 16:27 (seventeen years ago) link

If you finished on the second attempt then you missed about 90% of the game

TOM. BOT. (trm), Monday, 11 December 2006 16:42 (seventeen years ago) link

Finished it after a few attempts. I really like this one, it's like the Cube!

Does anyone know if pro evo 6 on the PC will be good, or a giant heap of ass? I've been told that the 360 version is the worst apparently, and I realy enjoy that. It's only £17 from play.com at the moment.

jim (jim), Monday, 11 December 2006 22:49 (seventeen years ago) link

It's kind of the same as on the PS2, ie better than the 360 and better (but not amazingly so) than PES5.

aidsy (aidsy), Tuesday, 12 December 2006 00:59 (seventeen years ago) link

there's less internal logic to this game it feels and more external logic -- i.e. less each try tells you something about the others and more just intuit it. try watering the egg instead of pushing it further down, for one.

viva pinata

this is cutty (mcutt), Tuesday, 12 December 2006 19:29 (seventeen years ago) link

Next game for Wii after Zelda is probably going to be Elebits.

My roommate has been playing this old game called Shadow Run that sometimes has awesome music but more often makes horrible annoying repetitious unpleasantness noise.

Dragons (per the previous FAQ answer) (nklshs), Tuesday, 12 December 2006 19:33 (seventeen years ago) link

the genesis or the SNES version?

kingfish in absentia (kingfish), Tuesday, 12 December 2006 20:06 (seventeen years ago) link

It's emulated, I think he said it's the SNES version. It kind of looks like lots of fun.

Dragons (per the previous FAQ answer) (nklshs), Tuesday, 12 December 2006 20:10 (seventeen years ago) link

Yup, it's entertainment. I played it a lot during Xmas flights last year.

kingfish in absentia (kingfish), Tuesday, 12 December 2006 20:11 (seventeen years ago) link

from our daily campus police report:

BLANTON DORMITORY, 2500 University Ave.
Fraud: A UT student reported that he had made the winning bid on an online auction site for a PlayStation 3 gaming console. The student anxiously awaited the delivery and soon discovered that he had gotten into a bidding war for pictures of a PS3. Loss value: $835.00

is viva pinata any good? i am thinking of buying a 360 at some stage and this would influence my purchase (in fact all 360 games that aren't 'run around and shoot people' would influence my purchase)
