'licious, I think you just sold me on the Wii.

Donkey Kong New York (Lee), Monday, 4 December 2006 18:45 (seventeen years ago) link

Andrew that was very funny, if perhaps a little bit intellectually lazy (but this is ILG so the zings are expected to fall on that end of the curve) BUT I THOUGHT YOU KNEW BETTER.

STOP TALKING TO HIM.

TOM. BOT. (trm), Monday, 4 December 2006 19:58 (seventeen years ago) link

Besically, don't fuck with me, and it's all good.

I have no idea why someone would attack me for posting something ABOUT GAMES.
Don't care....THEN IGNORE IT.

Or go play baseball with a brick up your ass, I don't care.

In any case it's no cause to insult me.

I'd like to have editied rather than post again, but here it is.

basically, I've decided than people in this 'forum'(thread now) are by and large self-centered mongoloids who think sarcasm is the greatest form of humour, fail to understand what the proper use of an in-joke is, and still lack anything close to a true sense of irony.
As such, I could give a fuck about you, but it's too much of an effort.
I'll just spit back the attitude spit at OR handed to me. I just don't feel the need to stand on ceremony.

I just read the entire feature on Grid Wars 2 linked to above, got EXTREMELY PUMPED UP, and then I downloaded the OSX version, and it won't even open without crashing.

Nooooooooooooo!

Zachary Scott (Zachary S), Tuesday, 5 December 2006 05:52 (seventeen years ago) link

Weird. I went to the website of the guy who did Grid Wars, and it said:

"Sorry folks... I've had to remove the link to the download.
Email from BizarreCreations:
"We're beginning to feel the effects of the Geometry Wars clones on our sales via Microsoft now and are beginning a process to begin to more robustly protect our copyright and intellectual property.
Therefore, I'd like to ask you in an amicable fashion to stop infringing our IP and pull the game 'Grid Wars' from the internet for download.
I hope you understand and are able to do this without us having to take further steps."

Nooooooooooooooooooooooooo!

Zachary Scott (Zachary S), Tuesday, 5 December 2006 05:54 (seventeen years ago) link

ok yeah i made grid wars work on my mac -- go into config.txt and set the Screen Height and Width to yr. screen's settings and then it should boot fine -- it crashes coz it tries to set the height and width to proportions not available on yr. screen.

Oh no Ste, why? Thank god Dan P can't revive that "Burger thread". There is good in this world occasionally.

Yup. I had to do that (on OS X too). The defaults were a rather eccentric resolution that my 12" iBook didn't support, and perhaps because of the hacky way its distributed/bundled you don't get an error message or anything. Just a crash.

My high score is about 250,000 (need to check this). I hate the red car things with the shields that follow you around. I love this game.

caek (caek), Wednesday, 6 December 2006 02:35 (seventeen years ago) link

First paragraph of that should be italicized. I cuss ILX for not understanding the <em> tag.

can't decide which play mode i like best -- dual keyboard or keyboard/relative mouse. i got up to about 580,000 so far - 10 mins of play. still screwing up fairly royally when i try to do any serious farming. this game is awesome tho, yeah. so pretty.

I beat FFIII. it was fun.

Jeff... (Jeff...), Wednesday, 6 December 2006 03:53 (seventeen years ago) link

Ah, THANK you for the config.txt tip. I got it working. It is a fantastic game, I'm already hooked. It's a nearly perfectly balanced game.

Some fucker broke into my house yesterday and nicked my xbox 360 & my PSP, leaving everything else untouched! To make matters worse the Wii only got released in Australia yesterday, making them a bit thin on the ground, so chances are I may have to spend Christmas actually interacting with actual people. Goddammit.

OMG A STARRY SARAH SIGHTING

i am taking a WoW brake bcz the new patch has fukked up all my add-ons (;_;) and also because i get disconnected every 5 minutes since the patch. which is probably better for me and the extant remains of my social life.

also hey guys I am starting a new gzeus-free ILG who's cumming wit me. (actually it is mostly dedicated to making fun of ABBIE HEPPE OF TIPS & TRICKS MAGAZINE)

aidsy (aidsy), Thursday, 7 December 2006 01:14 (seventeen years ago) link

Ok, it's definitely time for UK/European ILGers to be getting excited about the Wii. Anyone getting one tomorrow? Mine is preordered and should hopefully arrive tomorrow if everything goes smoothly. :)

Should be getting Zelda, Red Steel and Wii Play with it too, though it may be a weekend of impulse buying as I want to play Rayman Raving Rabbids too...

i really hope this report about the UK virtual console isn't true though

zappi (zappi), Thursday, 7 December 2006 13:02 (seventeen years ago) link

Warriors is button mashing goodness still. But quick: I need a game with the same happiness as katamari, same calmness and more n.b. not horrific levels of violence. Any clues? Oh and it has to be PS2. Preferably not requiring nostril rape...

kv_nol (kv_nol), Thursday, 7 December 2006 13:28 (seventeen years ago) link

Rainbow Six: Vegas is kicking my ass, but it's a lot of fun. Seems to be just the right combination of sneaky + POP POP POP.

Call of Duty 3 is terribly dull - it's all straight-line plot and random shooting. I like being expected to sneak around and snipe a little, to plan how I should move.

milo (milo), Friday, 8 December 2006 05:14 (seventeen years ago) link

milo, CoD3 really exists for the multiplayer. I hope you're not playing it on a Wii.

hm (modestmickey), Friday, 8 December 2006 05:39 (seventeen years ago) link

i really hope this report about the UK virtual console isn't true though

Sorry, it is totally true. To make it worse, Australia/New Zealand don't even get TurboGraphix games or games like Mario RPG. Oh! Also, our games are like US$2-3 more than the superior NTSC versions US gamers get! Nintendo of Europe/Australia really are massive cunts.

It's interesting to watch people bitch about virtual console licensing issues all over the world, now we can all share in the pain of lame copyright/trademark bullshit protectionism schemes fucking up our entertainment, perhaps this is part of a grand plan by Nintendo to get the consumers so worked up we finally demand a little fair play from the legislators and multinationals who force this ridiculous shit down our throats constantly. I, for one, await an actual legal english-text edition of Super Robot Taisen, and not the shite GBA nonsense they keep trying to push that doesn't even have fucking Gundam in it.

TOM. BOT. (trm), Friday, 8 December 2006 15:09 (seventeen years ago) link

Or we can just blame Nintendo for reminding us that living outside of Japan has been a third-class existence for video games enthusiasts since 1985.

TOM. BOT. (trm), Friday, 8 December 2006 15:10 (seventeen years ago) link

Good job I didn't buy that HDTV then!

Rumour hav it that you have to buy a US wii and download from the US wii store (which given strength of dolla, holla doesn't seem so bad apart from import schmimport etc) but I have 0 clue if THAT would then work with Old Cathode Ray Faithful. I guess. I don't know. I afford a wiiii anyway but luckily I have friends who can!

Sarah (Science of Unforunate Events), Friday, 8 December 2006 16:40 (seventeen years ago) link

Wii doesn't do HD anyway, so your old TV should be fine.

Someone is not helping:

Hot on the heels of the release of the Iraq Study Group Report -- and a day in which 10 U.S. servicemen were killed and at least 84 Iraqis were blown up or shot -- prospective presidential candidate Hillary Clinton will join with Joe Lieberman to hold a press conference today at 3 pm ET to announce the launch of a television PSA campaign about... video game ratings.

kingfish in absentia (kingfish), Sunday, 10 December 2006 22:58 (seventeen years ago) link

Yeah I've been playing it a lot too. Its one of the reasons we bought a HD tv, even. I havent even started the main quest yet! I've been having too much fun moving up the mages ranks and gettin' into Arcane Uni and stuff. Fingers of the Mountain spell! KABLAMMM

get the book, give it to the wrong person, shock the column, get in trouble, steal book back from person and give to guild!

(hey ade, I cansen you the add-on package one of guild officers made up that works with the 2.0 patch if you want it... haven't figured out how all the mods in it work and a couple of them actively suck (grr fucking Pocket Gnome, I hate you) but it mostly works well and looks good)

Oh noes! Had to give up on VC, it was dying at odd moments. Which is a pity because it is so beautiful. Tried Rugby 2004. I was embarrassed at how little I understood of the game after watching it for so many years!
