That doesn't look very much like Barack Obama.

Aww look, Pelosi's painted the walls pink, put on an apron, and started sweeping.

i like the mysterious black filth and bones under the carpet. cause, you know, if you did the same gag about the republicans you'd just have dennis hastert stamping on a tiny rug on top of a pile of bones, filth, corruption and evil grasping tentacles. and that pile would be as big as the fuckin earth.

GAWD PVNCH (yournullfame), Saturday, 16 December 2006 09:45 (seventeen years ago) link

C'mon, Tom Delay can't hold a candle to the horrific Boss Tweed-level corruption of Stephanie Tubbs Jones!

None of the idol worshippers appears to be wearing pants.

that one's kinda true except for the pants part

certainly no one has hated america quite as deeply as President Carter.

Mamet is about the worst cartoonist i've ever seen. I've done telephone doodling more complex than this.

I think Mamet is going for some bizarre fusion of Toothpaste for Dinner w/political comix.

i kinda agree with this one, but i'm more interested in the shoe choices:

I get the "all-star" gag, but Obama strikes me as more of a New Balance/Adidas guy.

And look; Hillary's got girlie shoes! All girls gotsta have obviously gendered footwear! Just like in the WNBA!

i like it how the day by day dude never draws bush, cheney, or any of his other idols. it's almost like it'd be blasphemy in his worldview.

hm (modestmickey), Tuesday, 19 December 2006 17:39 (seventeen years ago) link

he's just copying Doonesbury it that regard.

Was he supposed to look like Martian Manhunter? Is that part of the joke?

Leon Czolgosz (Leon), Tuesday, 19 December 2006 17:49 (seventeen years ago) link

i almost never understand the "punchline" of day by day cartoons. it's not just that i don't think it's funny, but i really can't figure out most of the time what it's even supposed to mean. that dude really lives in a different world than i do.

hm (modestmickey), Tuesday, 19 December 2006 17:50 (seventeen years ago) link

yeah, that's part of the thing. i'm a little obsessed with the strip, just for the all bifurcated effort the guy puts into it.

It's amazing that he seems to put the same energy and emphasis on his twin focal points of hot chicks and bizarro-world talking points, leading to the schizoid/dadaist results that Tombot noted upthread. Both areas have the same amount of projections and fantastical characters so unconnected in any way with any verifiable reality,

kingfish is a walter williams street teamer and i claim my US$1

urghonomic (gcannon), Monday, 12 February 2007 18:44 (seventeen years ago) link

Walter Williams

Pretty much a 70-year-old black version of John Stossel. Writes stuff like

At least two-thirds of the federal budget represents forcing one American to serve the purposes of another. Younger workers are forced to pay for the prescriptions of older Americans; people who are not farmers are forced to serve those who are; nonpoor people are forced to serve poor people; and the general public is forced to serve corporations, college students and other special interests who have the ear of Congress.

yadda yadda yadda

I don't understand the Jimmy Carter Klan one in the slightest, maybe because I am an Englander.

Chap (chap), Monday, 12 February 2007 18:56 (seventeen years ago) link

jimmy carter hates black people. what else do you need to know?

a_p (a_p), Monday, 12 February 2007 19:00 (seventeen years ago) link

John Edwards(Dem candidate for Prez) hired a coupla bloggers who Bill Donahue(conservative bloviator) didn't like, so he publicly attacked them. Like with everything else, it was so much bullshit.

Apparently, it dovetails in the cartoonist's mind with the whole "jimmy carter is anti-semitic!!111" thing.

xp that too
