I'm thinking of starting a public speaking consultancy called 'Big Diction'

jergins, Monday, 30 April 2007 10:24 (nineteen years ago)

I am going to riot tomorrow because it's May Day

jergins, Monday, 30 April 2007 12:05 (nineteen years ago)

'Big Diction'

LOLOOOLLLLOL!!!! you should do it!! bold claims = money makers!

lxy, Tuesday, 1 May 2007 04:02 (nineteen years ago)

Commiseration, Inc.

For a nominal fee I will sympathize with any plight. I am a very sympathetic person.

lxy, Tuesday, 1 May 2007 04:03 (nineteen years ago)

i am going to try to go to berghain's may day lawn party featuring ben klock and marcell detmann

jergins, Tuesday, 1 May 2007 12:45 (nineteen years ago)

haha i knew i'd jinx it as soon as i posted. so i went, it was outside, next door, and as i walked up there were doormen (though not that doorman) and i had my camera with me and just thought, fuck it, i hate this place anyway. the odd thing was that they were playing a song i knew: junior boys 'like a child (carl craig remix)'. that place isn't supposed to play songs i know! so i've headed back to kreuzberg where they've got orienstrasse blocked off and dozens of soundsystems running. a much better vibe. i'm next to the YAAM soundsystem now, spinnning old dancehall and dub. sounds fucking good. and, you know, so much more welcoming, which is paramount. next to the soundsystem they've got a hoop set up and a dude is throwing the ball out to the crowd, trying to get them to make shots. i can't believe this is a country that produced dirk nowitzki. half the shots are airballs.

jergins, Tuesday, 1 May 2007 14:46 (nineteen years ago)

fuck berghain. what you're doing sounds perfect. you should show those people how to shoot some hoop.

lxy, Tuesday, 1 May 2007 16:15 (nineteen years ago)

grand plan: going to denver or detroit or vancouver to see booka shade (and others) with our friend jmsd. this may work.

check out the detroit electronic music festival: http://www.paxahau.com/movement07.htm

lxy, Wednesday, 2 May 2007 03:48 (nineteen years ago)

i've looked at it, i know. fucking a

tickets to detroit are cheap. and detroit's cheap. it'd be silly if you went there without me, though. hell i'm even wearing my tigers cap

jergins, Wednesday, 2 May 2007 09:08 (nineteen years ago)

it would be silly. that festival's cheap, for sure. weekend pass $41. airfare, not so cheap.

think good thoughts in the direction of gui boratto: come here! come! or vancouver! okay!

lxy, Thursday, 3 May 2007 01:28 (nineteen years ago)

DECIBEL FESTIVAL 2007 - Dates Announced!

After the wonderful success of last year, we're proud to announce the 4th edition of the Decibel Festival. The 2007 Decibel Festival will be taking place September 21-23 at various venues in Seattle.

In an effort to broaden our scope outside of the festival, this year's edition will be condensing dates and events so we can pursue various one-off events and Db artist tours outside of the Northwest. Rest assured, the talent we'll be procuring for 2007 will be on par, if not exceed past Decibel Festival line-ups. To compensate for the fewer number of venues and artists, Decibel will also be lowering 2007 festival passes by 50% this year.

Stay tuned to this site for line up announcements, ticket info, various Decibel events and the forthcoming "Db Org site" that will feature pictures, video and audio archives from past Decibel events.

here's a Decibel tip:

WOLFGANG FLUR

I don't think
I've ever been more excited about a booking in my life. I've been told that
Wolfgang is banging it out these days with a heavy dose of techno, electro
and vintage Kraftwerk footage, which is really what I would expect to hear
from the guy that is credited with creating Kraftwerk's drum sequencer on
which were constructed rhythms for "Numbers", "Trans-Europe Express",
"Autobahn" and pretty much every other ground breaking hit during
Kraftwerk's hay day (1973 to 1987). Bound to be interesting.

revive this plan.

lxy, Thursday, 16 August 2007 21:09 (eighteen years ago)

this is tonight at the good shepherd center:

Through a handful of media, Jim Haynes defines his work with the simple phrase "I rust things." Specifically, he has focused on how decay parallels and relates to the perception of time when cycles of activity dwindle toward stasis. Through this research, sound has emerged as a central medium for his current installations and performances. Drawing from shortwave radio static, electric field disturbances, controlled feedback manipulation, and numerous textural scrapings, he aims towards a broken minimalism whose magnetic drones lend the impression of timelessness, when in fact the environment is quite active. This engineering of disparate materials and media seeks to evince the unpredictability of decay, to manifest its potential for a rough-hewn beauty, and to bear witness to its inevitability.

Eric Lanzillotta has been involved in sound in various aspects over the last two decades. In this time, a few fragments have been released for public consumptions on labels such as Anomalous Records, Selektion, Alluvial Recordings, Beta-Lactam Ring Records, RRRecords, EE Tapes and Jnana Records. Some of these recordings have involved collaborations with Ralf Wehowsky, Andrew Chalk, and John Hudak. He has also contributed to recordings by Hands To, AMK, Ultra, Edward Ka-Spel, irr.app.(ext.), and Dropp Ensemble. As a live performer, he has appeared in United States, Canada and Japan, both solo and in duets with Bernhard Günter, Aube, and Withdrawal Method. In recent years, he has focused on live analog electronics. Each performance is improvised with a focus on creating long form works which follow the path of the electronics' subtle changes, a music of timbres and textures rather than notes and melodies where the main activity of the music is in the details.

lxy, Thursday, 16 August 2007 21:18 (eighteen years ago)

and on the 18th:

NO WEST is a music festival dedicated to developing the fast-growing community of Northwest improvisers. This year 36 improvisers from Vancouver B.C., Portland, Bellingham, Olympia, Seattle, NYC, California, & Tokyo will perform in Seattle & Portland. This year the festival will also be opening its doors to improvisers working in the fields of dance and poetry. The festival is designed to present improvised music in both informal and formal settings. Each city will host a semi-private daytime show at a player's home, followed by an evening performance at a public venue. This provides an enriching opportunity for both improvisers and the community.

This year's performers include: Jen Baker, Liz Allbee, Shane Ronet, Bob Jones, Eric Ostrowski, David Able, Kelvin Pittman, Wil Shook, Simon Henneman, Robert Pedersen, David Grove, Bob Gallup, Seth Nehil, Mark Kaylor, Cristin Miller, Gregory Reynolds, Melanie Noel, Yuki Enomoto, Corey Fuller, Tyler Wilcox, Ezra Dickenson, Heather Vergotis, Ben Kates, Rob Baxter, JP Jenkins, Robert j Kirkpatrick, Matt Carlson, Amelia Reeber, Gust Burns, Jason E Anderson, Jonathan Sielaff, Jeff Huston, Scott Goodwin, Arrington De Dionysio, Jamie Potter, Cam Stevens.

one idea i had at the time but didn't mention because it could get weird would be to go into each others wallets like once every couple days and take a dollar--who'd notice, right--and then squirrel it away somewhere and then buy expensive cheese.

'Future So Bright'
(Art)

Best known for his experimental films, including The Subconscious Art of Graffiti Removal (a cheeky parody of Greenbergian art history), Portland's Matt McCormick is branching out into formal video art installations. This series is about ghost properties—bleached houses and gutted hotels sitting in gorgeous Western landscapes that seem to stretch on into infinity. Who knew it would take a filmmaker to bring aesthetic concerns back to video art? (Seattle University Lee Center for the Arts, 901 12th Ave, 296-2244. Opening 5–8 pm, free.)

jergins, Thursday, 17 January 2008 19:41 (eighteen years ago)

a good wednesday night out option:
http://bp1.blogger.com/_834L0hL0hPk/R6oEi7ee8PI/AAAAAAAAAbM/Em0Doho_tWc/s400/studio-web-350.jpg

I wanted to make the early announcement that starting Wednesday, March 5th, I along with many other local and national deejays/promoters will be hosting a new disco night weekly at Havana called 'Studio'. This night, which is a spin off of the party that we threw back in December at the Nectar. Now moved to Havana (1010 E Pike Street, Capitol Hill) as a weekly event happening every Wednesday, everyone in Seattle finally has an 'all disco night' where they can hear all the selections I post on this blog as well as many other classic and rare disco, italo, and cosmic funk tracks. There will be rotating cast of deejays that include myself (TJ Gorton), HMA, DJ Colin, J-Justice, and many many more. The first night will also include free LP giveaways courtesy from Seattle's Light in the Attic Records. Mark your calendars for March 5th and every Wednesday after that as the night that we celebrate, dance, and turn Havana into an underground 1970's discotheque, a la Paradise Garage, The Gallery, The Loft, Cosmic, Baia Degli Angeli, Studio 54, etc.

J O N A (Get Physical Music) is coming

jergins to division
show details 12:05 pm (1 minute ago)

Love this guy, especially 'Yellowstone' off of the gpm 4th anniversary label comp. Sunny day like today, that'd be a track to play.

Yeah, gpm website here http://www.physical-music.com/data.pl?artist=51 says:

April 19 - Seattle (US), See Sound Lounge

I'm glad I've never been to See Sound. This'll be a great first experience.

Now we just need the rest of the gpm roster to come here.

lxy, Monday, 25 February 2008 22:58 (eighteen years ago)

I love the current photo here: http://brainwashed.com/sotl/

Lingbert, Tuesday, 26 February 2008 00:34 (eighteen years ago)

are they idm?

lxy, Tuesday, 26 February 2008 02:06 (eighteen years ago)

Genre: Ambient, Post Rock

Stars of the Lid is a duo specializing in drone-based ambient music. They list among their influences minimalist and electronic composers such as Arvo Pärt, Zbigniew Preisner, Gavin Bryars, and Henryk Górecki, as well as Talk Talk (both bands have tracks named "Taphead"), post-rock artists Labradford, and ambient innovator Brian Eno. Their songs are largely beatless soundscapes, composed of droning, effects-treated guitars along with piano, strings, and horns; volume swells and feedback fill the gap of rhythmic instruments, providing dynamic movement within the songs. Their sound has been described as "divine, classical drone without the tedious intrusion of drums or vocals."

For more information, visit brainwashed.com/sotl and
www.myspace.com/starsofthelid

Lingbert, Tuesday, 26 February 2008 02:17 (eighteen years ago)

Genre: Mark, Stooge

Lingbert is an artist who specializes in stating the obvious, asking many questions, and taking things seriously when they are intended as jokes. For this reason, his friends, who are very fond of him, do their best to set him up. Outsiders may perceive this as being mean and malicious, however it is offered in a good-natured spirit, and Lingbert, whimsical and carefree person that he is, seems to take it as such.

lxy, Tuesday, 26 February 2008 03:25 (eighteen years ago)

(but i do thank you for the link and the explanation)

lxy, Tuesday, 26 February 2008 03:25 (eighteen years ago)

Genre: L, X, Y

lxy is a person who specializes in assuming that Lingbert takes intended jokes seriously, when in fact, he does not. lxy frequently surprises Lingbert when she doesn't catch on to his deadpan responses, even after knowing him for like 1.5 years now. An outsider might perceive this as lxy not actually knowing Lingbert all that well despite the extended period of interaction with him. When asked about this, Lingbert will just shake his head slowly and say "Oh, that lxy."

Lingbert, Tuesday, 26 February 2008 03:52 (eighteen years ago)

is the show general admission or reserved?

jergins, Tuesday, 26 February 2008 05:25 (eighteen years ago)

general admission, first come first serve, "Seating is *FESTIVAL* style, meaning you may be joined by other parties at your table"

i don't care if i have to share a table with other people because i'll be so fuckin' blissin' out on sotl and those other schmoes will be irrelevant to my plane of existence

i bet this show will sound like a righteous dream if you're STONED!!

Lingbert, Tuesday, 26 February 2008 15:54 (eighteen years ago)

let's get hell of baked

jergins, Tuesday, 26 February 2008 17:43 (eighteen years ago)

are you going to go to sotl, lxy?

Lingbert, Tuesday, 26 February 2008 20:55 (eighteen years ago)

we are both going. i just bought tickets. this show is cheaper than i expected it to be

jergins, Tuesday, 26 February 2008 21:14 (eighteen years ago)

yeah seriously. $15! you guys have been to the triple door before, haven't you? the site was talking about showing up 2 hours early to get a table and to eat and what not. Do you think it's really necessary to get there so early?

Lingbert, Tuesday, 26 February 2008 21:37 (eighteen years ago)

lxy's been, i haven't. clue us in baby

jergins, Wednesday, 27 February 2008 00:03 (eighteen years ago)

it's great. when i saw the mountain goats there with my sister, we got there kind of late; almost all of the seats were already filled. but it turned out that we were in a very perfect place for two short girls... really close to the stage, about 15 feet from peter.

i think all seats there are good. it's fun to eat and drink before the show. feels fancy. so early is okay by me.

lxy, Wednesday, 27 February 2008 02:01 (eighteen years ago)

i know there are booth seats and then tables up front (it says that they clear those front tables out for dance-able type groups, but i don't see an sotl show turning into a dance party, so i'm assuming the front tables will be there). you and your sister were in the front seats? how far back are the booth seats? those sound cool, but if they're too far back, then fuck em.

Lingbert, Wednesday, 27 February 2008 02:49 (eighteen years ago)

oh this might be fun if we're still in town:

To celebrate our most successful year to date Decibel will be closing out the year with two nights of underground dance and electronica from some of our favorite artists, including several highlights from the 2008 festival. Both nights will be taking place at Neumos (main dance venue for the Decibel Festival) which will once again be outfitted with the finest in state of the art sound, video and lighting. In the spirit of the festival, we’re billing this two evening event as “Micro dB” and offering a combo ticket price of $30 for both events (see ticket info below). It’s been a remarkable year and we hope you’ll come join us as we close it out in style.

DECEMBER 30TH : BEST OF BASS : DB 2008 HIGHLIGHTS

Featuring, the Seattle debut of

not that grand but it might be fun sometime. what'shisname discoguy:

I'm excited to announce a new weekly night at the Moe Bar called Sunday Stache. As the weather starts to warm-up here in Seattle and your looking for something to do on your lazy Sunday evenings, stop by the Moe Bar and have a few drinks as I spin summertime disco rarities along side many 'feel-good' classics to help wind your weekend down. I will be playing everything from 'cocktail' and cosmic disco gems to 70's soft-rock favorites. Of course I will be playing many of the more laid-back and funky cuts that are featured on this blog. Therefore, if your into the music you find on here, I highly recommend you spending Sunday evening this summer at the Moe Bar!
