this is what's on for monday: i still haven't washed the dishes so it's a jar again tonight for me. good thing i have lots of jars.

i bought a tough bottle of rum last night, can't even remember the name, left it at the party. but! i got good and drunk until the soda ran out and I introduced this girl Mikaela to the pleasure of rum rickeys and she got sauced. the headache today is worth it.

i'm adding Old Mill to my list. it is custom made on the Spanish Main, so....

much rum was appreciated last night. along with much wine, some beer and a bottle of seagrams. no one drank the lemon hart poison, but the mumbling dum dum malibu is finally gone!

this evening i was surprised to find that there was still a good amount of old mill left in the cupboard. why did this not get drunk at our party? did we put it away?

regardless, i was happy to find it, and was / am / will continue to be happy to consume some of it.

it was even out, and no one went for it

cannot recommend enough to try:

rum and soda with lime (ask for two at a bar, cut a quarter for yourself at home).

try cockspur, mt. gay, flor de cana.

report your findings, please.

(by soda she means club soda)

drinking rum with soda water strips away external flavors and leaves you with the four basic elements. the ice matters, but the amount is mostly personal preference. the soda water has to be fizzing, not flat. the lime is an overlooked element. gotta be juicy. good rum makes such a difference with this drink, since it has to stand so tall.

i always said shot glasses were for pussies but i've changed my tune. the shot glass has allowed me to get scientific

(okay upon a re-read the first part of that is totally obvious but maybe i had to write it out to realize it? of fucking course a lime has to be juicy. of course you don't want flat soda water. i guess this is what i think through as i make them so yeah)

i just threw some anniversario into cup and some seltzer mixed with the remnants of the coffee and ice (more specifically, sweet thai iced coffee). its good!

Iced Jamaican Coffee

An iced version of the popular Jamaican coffee cocktail. It's a nicely creamy iced coffee, with the smooth warmth of dark rum and Tia Maria.
Ingredients:

* 1 oz dark rum
* 1 oz Tia Maria
* 3/4 oz heavy cream
* 4 oz chilled coffee
* Crushed ice

Preparation:
Combine liqueurs, coffee and cream. Partially fill a wine glass with crushed ice, and pour mixture over ice. Serve.

i just made up a recipe:

~8 oz. hot black coffee
1 shot dark rum
half and half to taste

calling it "The Needful."

no, not extra old. it's the regular bottle, and the label says mt. gay barbados sugar cane rum. beige with a yellow map. i can't find it anywhere online, even on the mt. gay website.

No, you didn't misread. The above title claims this review is for Mount Gay Sugar Cane Rum, but the label calls it brandy. I just learned the hard way that they're one and the same. It seems that in some states Mount Gay is required by law to label their brandy as rum - either way, it ain't rum, and it certainly ain't good. I used it to remove a nasty clog from my drain, and it didn't even do a very good job of that. The flavor was vaguely reminiscent of shoe leather soaked in vinegar. If you think that sounds appealing, give it a shot. Otherwise, I'd stay clear.

starting from a really light one and then working my way darker to the blackstrap now makes me think that u get drunk in a different way vs. staying with the same thing all night
