because it is an uppercase and a lowercase city

lxy didn't like the moore theater installation/intervention. i liked that we were able to explore a space, enter and exit a building in different ways, find corners and odd spots. but the spots could've been odder. it seemed thrown together at the last minute? wacky for wackinesses sake? if you're going to rent that theater you need to focus on ghosts and transformations (new>old>new>old>newin2009) and the sense that every corner is overrun by the last thing you'd expect there. not silliness for its own sake but a reminder of what it was and a wistful hope and also an inbetween. the backrooms themselves were kinda the best canvas, and it ends up with watermelons and monitors and a bar? make it a haunted house in june, summer ghosts exhuming themselves.

the bridge motel, the last thing (reference: http://www.ilxor.com/ILX/ThreadSelectedControllerServlet?boardid=62&threadid=83 ) was better. there you knew 'this is the last thing that will ever happen in this sordid smelly room. wow.' it gave the acts more permanence a story you could add on top, embellish, picture how it played out before.

at the moore it seemed like they didn't take advantage of the space, the physical area around them.

i liked when people walked out above the stage and i had to make a snap judgment on booing them.

jergins, Tuesday, 23 June 2009 04:23 (sixteen years ago)

I agree! Also still pondering the program, which lists 32(?) sites within the theater but I felt like there were *maybe* 10? And yes, less random 'I am doing performance art' moments and more exploitation of the space/environment, plz. But yes, also, it was neat to have access at least.

tehresa, Tuesday, 23 June 2009 04:31 (sixteen years ago)

it's true, i didn't like the moore thing. what a waste of a good idea and a wonderful venue. granted, the thing at the bridge motel was top notch A+++ so it's not really fair comparing. but still, the moore thing would have been on the disappointment end no matter what.

at the same time, i was very happy to spend some time with tehersa, et al, even if it wasn't for very long. (sorry for bailing early, t.)

lxy, Wednesday, 24 June 2009 04:48 (sixteen years ago)

also, that building posted right up there is super hot.

lxy, Wednesday, 24 June 2009 04:48 (sixteen years ago)

What is the bill and Melinda gates foundation building going up east of Seattle Center? Is it a building to house the foundation or is it a foundation-sponsored project? I could not tell. If it is for the foundation, they should give me a job because I live close.

tehersa (tehresa), Wednesday, 24 June 2009 05:11 (sixteen years ago)

it will house the foundation. get a job there!

lxy, Wednesday, 24 June 2009 05:35 (sixteen years ago)

(except the building might not be ready as soon as you might want a job)

lxy, Wednesday, 24 June 2009 05:36 (sixteen years ago)

unless, you know, you're looking for a construction job in which case

lxy, Wednesday, 24 June 2009 05:37 (sixteen years ago)

Could be good way to get fit?

tehersa (tehresa), Wednesday, 24 June 2009 05:48 (sixteen years ago)

The qwest tech said there is a rockathon that is a marathon where bands play every mile. Hmm.

tehersa (tehresa), Saturday, 27 June 2009 18:48 (sixteen years ago)

what's more annoying than running? having to run past wanker bands every few minutes.

lxy, Saturday, 27 June 2009 18:54 (sixteen years ago)

(or in my case, having to stroll past a wanker band or two over the course of a coupla hours, till i hail a yellow cab to take me home so i can smoke in peace.)

lxy, Saturday, 27 June 2009 18:57 (sixteen years ago)

There was also mention of business men in pirate costumes scaring children?

tehersa (tehresa), Saturday, 27 June 2009 19:01 (sixteen years ago)

oh jesus. ya, seafair pirates. they're a seattle thing. a terrible, terrible seattle thing.

jergins will probably defend them.

lxy, Saturday, 27 June 2009 20:04 (sixteen years ago)

The Seafair Pirates are goodwill ambassadors for the city of Seattle, and have traveled across the United States and Canada, as well as to Grand Cayman, Mazatlán, Kobe, and Taiwan. Each year they also travel to the Cayman Islands for Pirate Week. In 2007, Sports Illustrated was shooting its Swimsuit Issue for 2008 and the pirates appeared in full uniform with model Melissa Haro

the pirates lecherous as hell and grab women off the street at parades and grab boobs, kiss. they also scare kids (that are easily scared). they harken back to the old less appropriate more gold miner/skid row Seattle that i love but am glad is gone. they though, they can stay.

tehersa (tehresa), Sunday, 28 June 2009 18:31 (sixteen years ago)

(i shoulda recommended you tell the driver what stop you wanted cuz yeah, it's hard to see along there. mercer's probably better lit anyway, so.)

lxy, Sunday, 28 June 2009 18:37 (sixteen years ago)

do you guys know the bar solo?
i was thinking of going solo (he, he) tonight based on reviews that make it seem more chill than other neighborhood bars (ie maybe less scary?).

tehersa (tehresa), Monday, 29 June 2009 23:18 (sixteen years ago)

basically i need to go do things by myself so i can follow through on my plan to meet new people etc

jaq, Tuesday, 7 July 2009 22:42 (sixteen years ago)

nuh uh.hmm. i have my own free spot i like but another could come in handy. i will look up fw gallery

((yy (jergins), Tuesday, 7 July 2009 22:44 (sixteen years ago)

go to the king st station, turn left and go to the far end of the parking lot - there is a tunnel that goes under Jackson and follows old unused tracks, go down that and follow along the chain-link fence past the garbage dumpsters. There's a guy that has set up housekeeping under there in a cardboard box fort, but he is easy-going. There's 7 or 8 spaces under there - not always useful during the workday b/c other people know about it, but almost always totally empty on the weekend. It is very creepy to have to walk down there, wear sturdy shoes.

jaq, Tuesday, 7 July 2009 22:48 (sixteen years ago)

te,he (tehresa), Thursday, 9 July 2009 20:15 (sixteen years ago)

Mr. Jaq and I were inspecting a turmeric root at Uwajimaya last night! Housed between the mushrooms and the herbs, looked like a scrawny carrot. Maybe all that yellowness gives you a sunny outlook?

jaq, Thursday, 9 July 2009 20:24 (sixteen years ago)

the tamarind i got (also at uwajimaya) was in a box and i had no idea if there was a way to choose it for best quality so i just got some and it seems to be working out ok but i really don't know maybe it is horrible quality! i also got a cherimoya there that i was really excited about but then i let it get too ripe and had to get rid of it because it was leaking on my counter :(

te,he (tehresa), Thursday, 9 July 2009 20:27 (sixteen years ago)

i have never bought a real tamarind, only the gummy pulp you buy in sealed plastic. seems ok.

this is what i had to do with my tamarind:
<img src=http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3159/2434687926_f3a302d60c_m.jpg>;
there is still some left. maybe i'll make some juice.

te,he (tehresa), Thursday, 9 July 2009 20:40 (sixteen years ago)

I love those tamarind sodas that Greenleaf makes. They are probably just tamarind pulp, simple syrup, and soda water. Sprinkled with chopped peanuts though!

I bought apricots and a cherimoya last night! I found out a few weeks ago it is perfectly fine to keep your cherimoya in the fridge. It will stay good even if the skin gets all brown and shabby.

Skillet did a breakfast thing by my work today. mmmmmmm i got corn pancakes with raspberries and almost a sour cream or something. fun morning surprise

jergins, Friday, 24 July 2009 18:20 (sixteen years ago)

Oh I so want to try some of their food! They are headquartered in the building across 4th Ave from us, the one where City Light found my wallet on the roof.

jaq, Friday, 24 July 2009 18:34 (sixteen years ago)

they're really pretty amazing, what they do. but....the food is SO heavy. if i have a full lunch from there i feel sick afterwards

jergins, Friday, 24 July 2009 18:38 (sixteen years ago)

I've heard their burgers are really excellent - have you tried one? I think they set up for all the Mariners games, will have to mosey over that way maybe.

Corn pancakes sound A+++

jaq, Friday, 24 July 2009 18:44 (sixteen years ago)

the burgers ARE excellent, i've had them 3x, i'd be curious to know what you thought. i think it's maybe some kind of carmelized onion something on top. OMG. very very very heavy though, i didn't eat dinner any of the times i had one for lunch. people also complain about skillet's cost but that doesn't bother me so much, not when Metropolitan Market is my #1 grocery store.

i DID see them around before a mariners game. oh here http://www.skilletstreetfood.com/calendar.htm
they should do something with the light rail, set up at SODO or c. city or rainier beach

jergins, Friday, 24 July 2009 18:56 (sixteen years ago)

oooh they will be here next friday, too. perhaps i will try this!

te,he (tehresa), Friday, 24 July 2009 19:44 (sixteen years ago)

would anyone care to try the zig zag lounge soon?
the bartender is highly recommended.
it's on the pike place hill climb. i hope it's not a tourist trap!

te,he (tehresa), Friday, 24 July 2009 22:39 (sixteen years ago)

i would love to! stuff at the market's fun imo, and i don't mind a few tourists.

i'm out of town through August 2nd, but after that let's plan on it. also, light rail drinks columbia city trip plzzz

jergins, Friday, 24 July 2009 22:42 (sixteen years ago)

i don't know what that means but ok!

why do you keep leaving us, jergs :(

Yes! THere's also a good Mexican place (El Quetzal) and a Filipino point-point place I want to try near the Beacon Hill station.

yeah yeah jaq, we want to explore around each of the stations! i guess around othello there's a great vietnamese bakery, tammy bakery. hey, maybe you've gone there? i've heard rumor about the beacon hill mex connection. and that's the station i most want to explore.

jergins, Friday, 24 July 2009 23:20 (sixteen years ago)

is it called that because you point at what you want to order?

yep, it's sort of cafeteria style.

That list is making me want to pack up and head home right now jergins. also need to stock up on gin for the coming heatwave.

Haven't been to Tammy - we lived closer to the Rainier Beach station (which, there isn't much there but a super p-patch and a gigantic buddha - okay pho place if you walk all the way over to Rainier though also donut king) and didn't explore as much as we should have. it was really great to ride down MLK on those smooooooth rails after living through all that destruction/construction.

jaq, Friday, 24 July 2009 23:26 (sixteen years ago)

baltimore is supposed to get a new light rail line but people in one neighborhood are complaining that it will be 'too loud', also why can't i just drive a car

spite n ease (harbl), Friday, 24 July 2009 23:42 (sixteen years ago)

it makes me sad to think about, that a small, vocal group of condo owners would destroy public transit for all

spite n ease (harbl), Friday, 24 July 2009 23:44 (sixteen years ago)

living in places that are still trying to figure this out (here we've had 1 million stupid nimbys with the same sort of complaints) is kind of wrenching. i'd like to live in a city where this stuff is finished and established.

jergins, Friday, 24 July 2009 23:49 (sixteen years ago)

yeah. it's alright because i'm fine with buses but it would be more efficient/less crowded even if light rail seems a little bit cumbersome compared to metro. we have one metro line and one light rail line! it's kind of funny. i like the metro but it doesn't really go anywhere i need to go. it's just a fun ride.

spite n ease (harbl), Friday, 24 July 2009 23:55 (sixteen years ago)

it doesn't really go anywhere i need to go. it's just a fun ride.

This is the Seattle light rail, for me. I will ride it to the different neighborhoods for fun, and def to the airport when that part is finished. But sadly no real use for me, day to day.

jaq, Saturday, 25 July 2009 00:09 (sixteen years ago)

I have tried to talk Mr. Jaq into riding it south for 2 stops, then hopping off with his bike for the rest of his ride to work. But he would rather just ride his bike the whole way.

jaq, Saturday, 25 July 2009 00:10 (sixteen years ago)

i'm totally ready to move, guys. does seattle have like, small outlying towns, not too far from big-city stuff? i'm ready for a small town, and an old house, and a backyard and a dog. and not always stressing about being mugged/raped/murdered.

smoove operator, Saturday, 25 July 2009 00:17 (sixteen years ago)

most useless light rail: buffalo's subway. unless you go to ub i guess?

smoove i bet you could find that! you could even get a house w/ backyard and dog in the city. i read there have been only 11 murders in seattle so far this year (but 4 in the last week oh my!).

te,he (tehresa), Saturday, 25 July 2009 00:40 (sixteen years ago)

i think we have 11 murders per day here

smoove operator, Saturday, 25 July 2009 00:42 (sixteen years ago)

i love that bus routes here actually get you where you want to go, though. the routes seem to make way more sense than in nyc.

te,he (tehresa), Saturday, 25 July 2009 00:43 (sixteen years ago)

the other day i got cut off by this dude on a scooter, and without even thinking i just shook my head in a stern way at him and then he followed me: stopped behind whenever i stopped, then i pulled over (on my bike) so i could cross this busy street to a separate bike path round the lake, and he pulled over right behind me and sat there staring at me for ages as i crossed and road off. then of course i got terrified he was gonna follow me home, where i would be completely screwed, since ytth was out of town and i have no friends i could call to come babysit me. to add to that, the neighbourhood i work in is so crime-ridden, every day i sit there basically waiting for my turn to get robbed.

sorry, emo blog post :/

smoove operator, Saturday, 25 July 2009 00:45 (sixteen years ago)

i mean obv they aren't random to the people involved but it seems non-systemic in a way, to me

spite n ease (harbl), Saturday, 25 July 2009 00:54 (sixteen years ago)

those are the ones that get the press, of course, but on the whole i'd say no. it seems like most of the terrible things that happen here are the drug deals gone bad/gang stuff, like anywhere

I will admit to intentionally riding to the dragon instead of getting off at the schooner, b/c it seemed too decadent to only ride one stop. lxy and jergins, when you come visit the schooner stop we should meet up at my local (the Collins, 2nd and whatever street is the further south end of the bus tunnel at that stop - James?) - they have many brews and delicious food.

'do we really have time for that? does she know we're coming? when was this lovely behind-my-back-plan made?' thought i.

what he really said was "so we'll go to jackson and get on a bus."

but it made me want to go jaq's, and then get on a bus. so we're gonna, some time soon.

te,he (tehresa), Tuesday, 28 July 2009 01:33 (sixteen years ago)

Nearly 2 hours on the bus from Redmond tonight - no A/C and the driver was completely terrible, sat in the middle of Stewart for almost 25 minutes while cars and other buses cut around her right and left. I got so fed up I jumped off the minute the doors opened at Westlake Center, started to walk home then detoured down to the tunnel for the light rail. At least it's cool and now I'll see how the transfers work with the orca.

Someone is predicting it will be over 100 F on Wednesday.

jaq, Tuesday, 28 July 2009 02:30 (sixteen years ago)

(i wouldn't think this, but a lady might)

te,he (tehresa), Tuesday, 28 July 2009 04:40 (sixteen years ago)

i wanted to say more about the light rail so here.

sound transit and the people of seattle did a good thing making the inital line through the south. connecting seattle's poorest and most underserved neighborhoods and the airport is such a good pairing. and the neighborhoods, they're various. we always tell ourselves that our neighborhoods are all so different from one another and we're special because of that. yeah it's true and this shows it in an unexpected way (i grew up here and don't think i'd ever been to rainier beach before last wednesday). i love how vietnamese it gets along the street level. there's that moment of 'well it could be another country.' and the hard industrial parts. on some blog i read a person say it was like an east coast city, taking a line into town where you see the working face, the car yards and parking lots and office parks, every day places.

the other smart thing sound transit did is build this line for the future. you don't notice at first but every station can accommodate 4 car trains. right now they're at 2 car trains until ridership goes up. four cars hauls a hell of a lot of people. this has all been built with a mind to the future, where 30 years from now the areas around the stations won't look at all like they do now. it's creating (forcing?) those neighborhoods to figure how they can adapt to what places should be: safe, walkable, open, community-oriented.

also, it's beautiful. they spent some money. all the stations are different from one another architecturally. beacon hill has big-time fast elevators. 1% for art. across the duwamish the bridge lights up http://i221.photobucket.com/albums/dd118/embarchie/20081107_duwamish.jpg
some of the art is hedious of course but that's fun cuz then you have an excuse to take the train around and jump off and be dismissive.

last they are hell of chill. it's pretty much the best to look out at a city through a clean train window. and to look at a city i feel so bored with sometimes, like i know all of it, and then here's this beautiful thing, this contraption straight out of 19th20th21st centuries, to spirit me along to places i didn't know existed? magic carpet ride ftw. it's the best, really.

jergins, Tuesday, 28 July 2009 05:08 (sixteen years ago)

te,he (tehresa), Tuesday, 28 July 2009 06:04 (sixteen years ago)

so pardon my ignorance but is a light rail like what the BART is here in the bay area?

smoove operator, Tuesday, 28 July 2009 06:36 (sixteen years ago)

BART is actually heavy-rail, which means although it shares some similarities with Seattle's Link, it can handle much greater passenger loads (about 2x as many as light rail), has its own separate thoroughfare, and is powered by a third rail. Light rail is powered by overhead lines. But they are both electric trains.

jergins, that is a great post. I wish we could have stayed in that townhouse down in New Holly - it was only 3 blocks from the Rainier Beach station. But we are thinking toward the future when we will move a year from now, and everything along the light rail corridor is fair game.

jaq, Tuesday, 28 July 2009 16:11 (sixteen years ago)

if i were planning to stay in seattle i would move south too.

ruby, another crucial thing about BART that makes it different is its station spacing. though i don't know where exactly you live, and i don't know where you work, i'm thinking BART probably isn't that convenient. (actually, i have no idea, maybe it works out perfectly). anyway, i found this pretty interesting:

http://berkeleybrt.blogspot.com/2008/06/brt-and-bart-redux.html
From Wikipedia, BART, distance between stations: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bay_Area_Rapid_Transit
BART: 104 miles, 43 stations (1 under construction).
Do the math: 1 station every 2.4 miles.

By contrast, the Paris Metro, with, according to Wikipedia, the most closely spaced metro stations in the world:382 stops, 298 stations (some stations serve more than one line), 133 miles. So almost 3 stops per mile in Paris compared to one stop every 2.4 miles for BART

because of the way seattle is layed out, long and narrow with lots of water, we've ended up with pretty widely spaced stations too. look

jergins, Tuesday, 28 July 2009 19:09 (sixteen years ago)

oi guys i took a run and then a shower and after the shower i couldn't cool down. isn't that the worst when shower dampness turns to sweat and you wonder what good the shower even was?

i took a spin around the island in the dinghy. that helped for a minute. the east side of the island, out in the channel, there's a cooler breeze there. but now back in the house, yaaaaaaaaaaaaa. i can't figure out the AC (hate AC so whatever) but still it's 85.1f outside and 85.6f inside. don't get me wrong i love it but shit i still can't cool down.

our whole summer is like that, day after day for months, i have to use a/c or i would never sleep at all between nov-april. i spent my childhood winters sleeping in unheated rooms in nz and my body won't adjust to heat and humidity, as soon as i fall asleep my temperature shoots up a few degrees and without a/c i feel as if i'm dying.

estela, Tuesday, 28 July 2009 23:25 (sixteen years ago)

Pool Temperature: 85 degrees

^^^queen anne pool

my days as a competitive swimmer make me freak out when i see things like this bc that is just too warm to properly swim in!
that's another thing - used to have crazy pool workouts and then you'd stop and realize you were sweating IN the water!!!

te,he (tehresa), Tuesday, 28 July 2009 23:30 (sixteen years ago)

that used to happen to me when i had swimming as my gym class. reallyweird feeling.

lxy, Wednesday, 29 July 2009 01:42 (sixteen years ago)

today i imagined myself inside of a protective bubble, which turned into me being in a souvenir snow globe of montreal. but it kind of broke down when i inadvertanly became confused about how i could possibly walk my s now globe down tje street. will try again tomorrow.

lxy, Wednesday, 29 July 2009 01:50 (sixteen years ago)

were your limbs inside or outside of the snow globe, i am trying to get a sense of your gait.

estela, Wednesday, 29 July 2009 02:11 (sixteen years ago)

the little snow globe who couldn't.

estela, Wednesday, 29 July 2009 02:12 (sixteen years ago)

lol, srsly.

fully inside. it doesn't really make sense, because at first it was a bubble just a bit bigger than me. once it evolved into a snow globe i couldn't quite recapture the scene.

lxy, Wednesday, 29 July 2009 02:21 (sixteen years ago)

"that girl doesn't have a bubble butt...she's got a snow globe butt!"

lxy, Wednesday, 29 July 2009 02:27 (sixteen years ago)

thank u jergins!! we live kind of close to the bart - our house is about 1.2mi away, and then one of my works is right next to a bart station, and my other work is is about 10mins walk away, so i'm pretty lucky. and i usually ride to the station.

smoove operator, Wednesday, 29 July 2009 02:40 (sixteen years ago)

thanks also to jaq for the info. didn't know BART's a 3rd rail line

couple more thoughts on our line: they GOT TO rezone around sodo station. such an awesome spot give over to parking lots and the USPS. that neighborhood's got possibilities.

if i had lots of money i would buy property around rainier beach. such a no-brainer that it's gonna GROW

te,he (tehresa), Wednesday, 29 July 2009 22:12 (sixteen years ago)

duuuuuuuuude

86 up here. fully 15 degrees cooler, just for being north and on the water. nice

jergins, Wednesday, 29 July 2009 22:31 (sixteen years ago)

it's been pretty reasonable here all summer! very humid though

spite n ease (harbl), Wednesday, 29 July 2009 23:14 (sixteen years ago)

omg 108 omg. our pdx friends bought an air conditioner in reaction to yesterday's 103 and in anticipation of today's predicted 106.

lxy, Wednesday, 29 July 2009 23:44 (sixteen years ago)

my pop just sent this email to my siblings and me:

weather

5pm, and all is well (done); 103 degrees official high so far today; an
all-time high for Western WA.

Dad

lxy, Thursday, 30 July 2009 00:11 (sixteen years ago)

people, it is 97 degrees inside the kitchen cupboard where i keep the thermometer.

i've taken it out and will report back when it adjusts to living room and porch temperature.

lxy, Thursday, 30 July 2009 01:13 (sixteen years ago)

has it been cooling off at night, also is it unhumid? because those are crucial bearability factors i think.

estela, Thursday, 30 July 2009 01:24 (sixteen years ago)

I am on a bus trying to snowglobe myself but it is not working and also we are not moving.

te,he (tehresa), Thursday, 30 July 2009 01:26 (sixteen years ago)

estela, Thursday, 30 July 2009 01:32 (sixteen years ago)

porch: was 94.3, now 92.3
house: was 92.5, now 90.0

so yes, i guess it does cool off

lxy, Thursday, 30 July 2009 01:40 (sixteen years ago)

temp's going back up again, i didn't think thermometers were susceptible to breezes?

lxy, Thursday, 30 July 2009 01:43 (sixteen years ago)

I think it gets to 70s at night but for some reason my house stays hotter.

te,he (tehresa), Thursday, 30 July 2009 01:45 (sixteen years ago)

lxy, Thursday, 30 July 2009 03:01 (sixteen years ago)

Can I say again how much I love the light rail train? Went to a show at Jazz Alley last night (too damn $$$ btw and don't eat there unless abs. nec.) and hopped the train from ID to Westlake. I will take the train over a bus any day.

jaq, Wednesday, 12 August 2009 16:21 (sixteen years ago)

yesterday i took the 18 down to train station area, but we kept getting stopped every 3 ft. in traffic. so, on my way home it was raining and i decided LIGHT RAIL TO THE RESCUE! dragon to tiara in no time! <3 it!

also on the way down, there was a car on the sidewalk on 1st ave, with a down tree. how does that happen in stop and go traffic? i would think you'd need greater velocity to veer off the road and knock a tree down like that.

revisited the sculpture park yesterday and actually felt like i appreciated (most of) it for the first time. i think the difference was lighting. sun = colors and shadows that kind of bring the pieces into their own a little more.

also, if you have not visited the vivarium (the little greenhouse thing) you definitely should because it is amazing and contains a nurse log from tacoma (i think?) and is quite a cool little system to look at!

hey what are some things i must do before i go?

tehresa, Sunday, 14 March 2010 19:16 (sixteen years ago)

what have you not done yet?

If you are a Twin Peaks fan, you should see Snoqualmie Falls and have cherry pie at the diner in North Bend.
If you are a Northern Exposure fan, you should have a drink at The Brick in Roslyn.

Have you gone paddling in Lake Washington/the cut, through the Arboretum?

If you haven't seen the quad at UW when the cherry trees are blooming, I would recommend that. Also, the acres and acres of tulips up by LaConner (but I don't know for sure when they bloom).

oh hi!!!!!!!!!!!

smoove operator, Thursday, 19 January 2012 02:52 (fourteen years ago)

hi!!

My neighbor across the street, whom some of you have met, appears to be shoveling the entire street. He picks up a scoop of snow from the road, then carries it out to the roundabout and dumps it. Then back for another.

jaq, Thursday, 19 January 2012 03:17 (fourteen years ago)

wow, that's ambitious! our neighbor shoveled not only the main sidewalk in front of our house, but also the sidewalk leading to our front stairs. why? i don't know!

lxy, Thursday, 19 January 2012 03:26 (fourteen years ago)

jaq, isn't it so quiet and beautiful tonight? <3

lxy, Thursday, 19 January 2012 03:27 (fourteen years ago)

It is, all glowing and covered in a soft clean blanket!

jaq, Thursday, 19 January 2012 03:30 (fourteen years ago)

i really love the temperate climate of the bay area but dang if i don't love ~in theory~ the idea of cozy snowy nights

smoove operator, Thursday, 19 January 2012 03:32 (fourteen years ago)

but it's not that soft! the snow is covered by a crunchy layer of ice. it's really weird.

lxy, Thursday, 19 January 2012 03:48 (fourteen years ago)

still cozy though.

lxy, Thursday, 19 January 2012 03:48 (fourteen years ago)

what is the prognosis for tomorrow?

lxy, Thursday, 19 January 2012 04:11 (fourteen years ago)

I think a bit more snow overnight, but falling slowly. And it's supposed to stay below freezing. Then something like a 60% chance of more snow tomorrow. I hope I can stay home again.

jaq, Thursday, 19 January 2012 04:20 (fourteen years ago)

so :( and :)

lxy, Friday, 20 January 2012 03:32 (fourteen years ago)

I'm supposed to try to get to Redmond tomorrow morning for a 9 am meeting. Will it happen? OR WON'T IT???

I hope the buses are running - I haven't seen or heard a 60 or 131 for 2 days!

jaq, Friday, 20 January 2012 03:55 (fourteen years ago)

we walked over to 4th & it looks pretty good. even saw a bus! should be fine, a straight shot to tukwila.

in other news, uw's emergency blog must be inundated with people trying to find out about tomorrow; can't get the page to load! i wanna know!!

lxy, Friday, 20 January 2012 04:15 (fourteen years ago)

i'm happy it's too snowy for work.

estela, Friday, 20 January 2012 06:36 (fourteen years ago)

yes, it's getting kinda silly now, third day off, and monday was the MLK holiday. good, though, because it's mean out! still super icey, but also kinda melty, so big hunks are falling out of trees. a branch came off the neighbor's tree itno our yard last night. i'm a bit worried for the trees and the things under them. be safe, trees & people!

jergins' 9 am flight was cancelled and he was rebooked for noon. good wishes for people flying over snow and ice.

lxy, Friday, 20 January 2012 15:56 (fourteen years ago)

fingers x'd for flyers! I don't even want to think about driving, so told the people who want this meeting I can't get there and we can meet on the internet b/c we live in the FUTURE!

jaq, Friday, 20 January 2012 15:59 (fourteen years ago)

oh good, jaq, so glad you made that decision. how are the alabamans doing?

lxy, Friday, 20 January 2012 16:02 (fourteen years ago)

They got into the office yesterday afternoon apparently, brave souls! They are leaving tomorrow I think.

jaq, Friday, 20 January 2012 16:07 (fourteen years ago)

Though I wish they'd stay so I could work with them a little before they go! They're super to work with.

jaq, Friday, 20 January 2012 16:09 (fourteen years ago)

won't they be glad to go home!

lxy, Friday, 20 January 2012 16:10 (fourteen years ago)

Too right, especially after this week of weather! We probably won't see them here again until summer.

jaq, Friday, 20 January 2012 16:33 (fourteen years ago)

made it to the office - the side streets are too rotten still, but the main roads are more soupy than slick.

jaq, Friday, 20 January 2012 18:41 (fourteen years ago)

oh! so glad you didn't have trouble!

j made it from home to the gate in ~ 1 hour.

how did i miss this! very exciting, t!! i'm not familiar with the org but it seems perfect for you!

I have been procrastinating with my application and i don't know why :(

tehresa, Thursday, 11 July 2013 01:21 (twelve years ago)

Maybe because i am scared of another tiny org

tehresa, Thursday, 11 July 2013 01:22 (twelve years ago)

they've been around for quite a while, though, and it looks like the client base is pretty large and varied. and it seems like an ideal next step in your career, a good fit plus a place you can really apply your expertise to influence the success/growth of the org.

i love how the name represents the goals/values of the org too. really neat!

DO IT NOW!!!

lxy, Thursday, 11 July 2013 02:21 (twelve years ago)

maybe in 5 years they'll need a parttime writer. then i can retire from uw (!!!) and work less at a better place.

so you go ahead and start there, make your way up to director, and hire me! a perfect plan!

and of course you can feel sunny all the time, which is the best reason of all!

lxy, Thursday, 11 July 2013 02:25 (twelve years ago)

lxy, Thursday, 11 July 2013 03:31 (twelve years ago)

can i just say:

ytth has been trying to hire someone at his work and about 99.9% of applicants are fucking idiots - they don't read the job listing properly, they send the most generic cover letters, and they say the most generic bullshit during interviews.

tza, you are anything but generic or boring, so you should feel confident about applying for a cool new job!!!! everyone else applying sucks!!!

how does anyone afford to live in sf?

tehresa, Friday, 12 July 2013 18:44 (twelve years ago)

a. they work for some start-up that has more venture capital than they know what to with

b. they rent a walk-in closet (literally) for $2000 a month

OR you can work in sf and live in our pretty little city and pay $1200 p/m for a nice 2bd w/garage and yard (although we discovered recently we are paying waaaaaaaaaaaaay under market value) and commute 45mins each way.

my friends are leaving seattle and moving to . . . dakar

mookieproof, Thursday, 16 April 2015 01:05 (eleven years ago)

my sister lived in dakar once. the colors, they are vivid!

tehresa, Thursday, 16 April 2015 03:43 (eleven years ago)

oh boy, good luck to them! maybe you can come see them off?

lxy, Thursday, 16 April 2015 04:10 (eleven years ago)

is that the friend who went to help with the ebola outbreak?

lxy, Thursday, 16 April 2015 04:11 (eleven years ago)

i liked them very well, that was a fun night.

lxy, Thursday, 16 April 2015 04:11 (eleven years ago)

it was very fun! and good of y'all to come uptown

i am lame for not having returned

mookieproof, Thursday, 16 April 2015 04:24 (eleven years ago)

maybe you will visit them in dakar!

lxy, Thursday, 16 April 2015 04:48 (eleven years ago)

or just move here anyway. with harbl. and tza. and am0n.

lxy, Thursday, 16 April 2015 04:49 (eleven years ago)

i am inching my way there.

my fifth anniversary of leaving seattle was last week. i may have shed a little tear.

tehresa, Thursday, 16 April 2015 12:37 (eleven years ago)

lxy, Thursday, 16 April 2015 12:58 (eleven years ago)

Waiting for my to-go order at Katsu Burger and overheard a guy tell the cashier he "goes by Merlin. Just. Merlin."

jaq, Friday, 17 April 2015 02:29 (eleven years ago)

my wandering auld fella is currently shacking up with a seattle habitant I'll have to enquire as to the prospects of the relationship with a view to fappage

esperantzen (p much resigned to deems), Saturday, 18 April 2015 10:13 (eleven years ago)

!

lxy, Saturday, 18 April 2015 13:18 (eleven years ago)

would it not be better to enquire in person?

lxy, Saturday, 18 April 2015 14:23 (eleven years ago)

surely the situation needs assessing post haste?

lxy, Saturday, 18 April 2015 14:24 (eleven years ago)

its over twenty years (god) since we left school for the summer in donegal and told our friends/classmates we were moving to seattle where my dad was due to take up a marine professorship or idk what.

after a summer of increasingly disturbing fuckery and brokenminded parenting we ended up living with cousins on that island I keep posting about instead, where I had to learn irish for five years.

he owes me a week in seattle, basically, is the point

esperantzen (p much resigned to deems), Saturday, 18 April 2015 14:27 (eleven years ago)

i like 'post haste' in the context of ilx. but i always have to confirm to it's actually a thing before hitting submit because it's too perfect.

lxy, Saturday, 18 April 2015 14:28 (eleven years ago)

XP I'll ask him in person in a fortnight, which only requires I wait a fortnight and spend no extra money. then I'll be right back to u with an answer.

esperantzen (p much resigned to deems), Saturday, 18 April 2015 14:29 (eleven years ago)

that was an xxp I did not employ enough post haste

esperantzen (p much resigned to deems), Saturday, 18 April 2015 14:30 (eleven years ago)

i think your island years weren't all bad? otoh i don't know what i'm talking about so.

he certainly owes you a week, if not the whole five years.

lxy, Saturday, 18 April 2015 14:33 (eleven years ago)

xptoo

lxy, Saturday, 18 April 2015 14:33 (eleven years ago)

i will be here in two weeks to learn the outcome

lxy, Saturday, 18 April 2015 14:35 (eleven years ago)

they weren't all bad at all but at the same time there's no point letting him know that if there's free lodging up for grabs, and I def begrudge the Irish lessons.

esperantzen (p much resigned to deems), Saturday, 18 April 2015 14:38 (eleven years ago)

marine professorship

like biology or maritime industry? if the latter and he needs employment he should connect with our jergins.

lxy, Saturday, 18 April 2015 14:44 (eleven years ago)

it would have been the latter twenty years ago I guess, but he is very old now and I wouldn't recommend him to work with anyone I'd be afraid for him to fall out with tbh

esperantzen (p much resigned to deems), Saturday, 18 April 2015 14:49 (eleven years ago)

but he is talking with contacts there about work as is so I guess he plans to se(a)ttle for a while

esperantzen (p much resigned to deems), Saturday, 18 April 2015 14:51 (eleven years ago)

haha fair enough!

lxy, Saturday, 18 April 2015 14:52 (eleven years ago)
