Eh, they aren't movers as much as the people I stored my stuff with who are bringing me my stuff back, but "movers" is so much easier to type. :D If I drove or took the train or did anything that let me have more than three bags it wouldn't be necessary, but I don't have a car that could make it 700 miles. :/ It's just bed linens and towels and stuff, I don't mean to come off like some super-overloaded princess (although I am a TOTAL pack rat).

Keep the faith, Arbin! For the drain, I recommend a plumber's snake -- I got one at the hardware store for under $8 and it cleaned out everything. Just watch out for the little hook that closes the drain stopper, if it's that kind of drain, because that thing can get UNhooked and then I don't know what to do.

The worst of all bummers. Mine didn't cost me much (relatively - $700 fine, $300 lawyer-friend discount), but the whole thing was fucked (double-fucked because I was under 21 - over 21 I could have pled down). Also spent a little time in teh jail because I had chronic breathing problems and couldn't complete my community service/work release.

It kept me from drinking at all for almost three years and I won't even look at booze if there's a chance I'll drive.

and yeah she was ready to go. 95. lived through everything. died surrounded by her family; actually it's kind of amazing, my dad was RUSHING back on a plane last night from china, we didn't think he'd make it in time but she held on literally up to the moment he showed up. he saw her last breath. still kind of reeling from that. it was really really moving

the funeral is done, the eulogy went OK i think but when got to the cemetery, you're never gonna believe this, but they had dug up the wrong plot!! so it was a bit of a comedy of errors, the actual burial part. luckily it got straightened out. and honestly it's a pretty funny story.

brokerage fees are a pain in the ass, but they're not the fault of UPS! if you had something shipped int'lly, it should be the responsibility of the shipper to inform you of the possibility of import taxes, duties, etc etc.

UPS charges the highest brokerage fees in the industry - from what I have read. These fees are often 'hidden' to most customers, since they are not included in the item price or the shipping and are separate from the taxes (discussed below). For example, if I were to order a wakeboard for $325 USD from UPS, according to their brokerage fee schedule, I would have to pay $35.55 brokerage + $5.85 disbursement (minimum) + $4.25 fee for collecting brokerage charge. Add taxes, shipping and convert this order to Canadian funds and this order no longer looks like a deal. Apparently you can set it up to clear customs by yourself, but trying to figure out how is as easy as turning water to gold. If your order is shipped UPS when you were told it would be shipped with another company, you can refuse to accept the order & charges and it will be sent back to the retailer.

sunny, it took about a week to get the last one back. We waited around the airport for several flights after ours to get in and did get one of the bags (which I claimed was lost anyway, fuck them). Apparently they "forgot" to load the entirety of the checked bagged on our flight--only 3-5 bags came out on the carousel!! For the entire plane, I mean. And then just stuck the bags on ensuing flights. It was completely bizarre and awful, and their customer service was extremely...nonchalant about the whole thing. Our fault for flying an airline like Southwest.

so anyway, i was like, "whatever, compliments of the chef" and popped it into my mouth. it was ok, a bit chewy. figured it was a piece of chicken skin or something that had fallen into the fryer with the taco shell and ended up in my food.
