elmo albatross (allocryptic), Wednesday, 20 December 2006 18:59 (nineteen years ago)

I'm planning on making it into new york on the 29th and staying through to the 2nd. I definitely want to get some quality boozling in and meet more NYC noize folks.

Also, parties???

elmo albatross (allocryptic), Wednesday, 20 December 2006 19:07 (nineteen years ago)

Laura B**** has invited you to the event "New Years Eve at the Pennsylvania Hotel"

jw (ex machina), Wednesday, 20 December 2006 19:13 (nineteen years ago)

last year was fun, jon, but i think we can do better than drunken donkey conga this year

elmo albatross (allocryptic), Wednesday, 20 December 2006 19:26 (nineteen years ago)

jon wants to crash loft parties in williamsburg

catwon (catwon), Wednesday, 20 December 2006 20:08 (nineteen years ago)

New Years Eve Eve party at subtonic w/ me.

dan selzer (dan selzer), Wednesday, 20 December 2006 20:20 (nineteen years ago)

new year's eve is the worst possible time to be in new york.

Tyrone Slothrop (Tyrone Slothrop), Wednesday, 20 December 2006 20:25 (nineteen years ago)

i do not want to end up in manhattan :(

jw (ex machina), Wednesday, 20 December 2006 20:34 (nineteen years ago)

o rly? i figure as long as i stay away far far away from the ball-dropping spectacular (& manhattan in general) i should find good hijinx

plus, NYE in prov is dudly, filled with dangerous vehicular drunks

elmo albatross (allocryptic), Wednesday, 20 December 2006 20:36 (nineteen years ago)

one of my favorite bands in chicago was supposed to play a show nye but instead they decided to break up. now i have no f'ing idea what i'm going to be doing. probably head over to the bottle as it's always cheap and it's a short stagger home.

otto midnight, that 'tofu makes you gay' ding dong (otto midnight), Wednesday, 20 December 2006 20:36 (nineteen years ago)

I generally favor the nights of Dec. 30 & Jan. 1 -- which this year should find me at Metropolitan bar New Wave (elmo, I recommend) on 30th and possible field trip to Inland Empire on New Years, tho how many noizers will be up by 5 or 6pm I can't say.

Might try fireworks at Grand Army Plaza on NYE this year, followed by my PkSlope bar.

Dr M (Dr Morbius), Wednesday, 20 December 2006 20:48 (nineteen years ago)

elmo yay! glad you're coming to town again!

i have a brunch party to go to but no evening plans yet.
also, it is, uh, my birthday and i would like it not to suck...
(shameless self promotion :-\)

tehresa (tehresa), Wednesday, 20 December 2006 21:24 (nineteen years ago)

elmo albatross (allocryptic), Wednesday, 20 December 2006 21:47 (nineteen years ago)

definitely want to stay in brooklyn

without you i'm nothing (get bent), Wednesday, 20 December 2006 22:13 (nineteen years ago)

I'm worried about getting depresso

jw (ex machina), Wednesday, 20 December 2006 22:14 (nineteen years ago)

i really want to trip. not on nye, but whilst in ny?

elmo albatross (allocryptic), Wednesday, 20 December 2006 22:32 (nineteen years ago)

shrooms + inland empire = best idea OR worst idea? hm.

elmo albatross (allocryptic), Wednesday, 20 December 2006 22:33 (nineteen years ago)

trying to sit still in the dark for 3 hours sounds like trouble to me

dmr (dmr), Wednesday, 20 December 2006 22:51 (nineteen years ago)

(xp) worst

cousin larry bundgee (bundgee), Wednesday, 20 December 2006 22:55 (nineteen years ago)

yes worst, dmr otm
but i want to trip also

v (sleep), Wednesday, 20 December 2006 23:02 (nineteen years ago)

make it so

elmo albatross (allocryptic), Wednesday, 20 December 2006 23:08 (nineteen years ago)

maybe eat them 1/3 of the way into the film? that could work best cuz you'd still be HI and maybe even peaking at the end of the movie.

jergins (jergins), Wednesday, 20 December 2006 23:14 (nineteen years ago)

don't ever watch The Sorrow and the Pity on mushrooms

obi strip (sanskrit), Wednesday, 20 December 2006 23:23 (nineteen years ago)

yeah but you'd probably be kinda of bored and terrified too.

xp

jhoshea (jhoshea), Wednesday, 20 December 2006 23:23 (nineteen years ago)

coming out of the dark into the lgiht while peaking = BAD IDEA

jw (ex machina), Wednesday, 20 December 2006 23:24 (nineteen years ago)

i think it sounds like a nice plan for a different movie.

jhoshea (jhoshea), Wednesday, 20 December 2006 23:30 (nineteen years ago)

probably head over to the bottle as it's always cheap and it's a short stagger home.

NYE at the Bottle is $25, I believe. Girl Talk is performing. I'll be kind of envious if you go.

jaymc (jaymc), Wednesday, 20 December 2006 23:47 (nineteen years ago)

jon is always depresso! cheer up! don't bum me out too

the real kids are playing at work, along with about 4 other questionable bands..
not really looking forward to spending a lot of $$$$$. each year i end up at some random place when the clock hits 12...like falling asleep on the train. this year? who knows

catwon (catwon), Thursday, 21 December 2006 00:38 (nineteen years ago)

I'll be kind of envious if you go.

i will be too

baby wizard sex (gbx), Thursday, 21 December 2006 00:40 (nineteen years ago)

My boss is having dumbo party

jw (ex machina), Thursday, 21 December 2006 02:01 (nineteen years ago)

morbs, i think i would really like to see inland empire while in nyc, because i'm not sure when it will eventually play in prov. apparently i just missed a run of screenings in boston.

elmo albatross (allocryptic), Thursday, 21 December 2006 02:02 (nineteen years ago)

is there anyone left in brooklyn over the xmas holiday? i refuse to go anywhere over xmas for my 3rd year straight. I have stocked up on booze and videos.

Carey (Carey), Thursday, 21 December 2006 03:03 (nineteen years ago)

hello-cinagins! when can i play?

forksclovetofu (forksclovetofu), Thursday, 21 December 2006 03:21 (nineteen years ago)

I'll be back for NYE. I'm halfway thinking Ward if maybe we make it some kind of noize-pop dance party...? Can we convince le bartender of choice? SRSLY do not want to end up at uncomfortable weird expensive party.

Laurel (Laurel), Thursday, 21 December 2006 03:25 (nineteen years ago)

Honestly, I wish I didn't live close enough to NYC to have to go home. I'd love to have like a week to do nothing except get centered and not depressed by bad memories.

xpost: laurel, maybe we need to get a dj night so next year we can have our own party

jw (ex machina), Thursday, 21 December 2006 03:27 (nineteen years ago)

SRSLY do not want to end up at uncomfortable weird expensive party

TRUE

elmo albatross (allocryptic), Thursday, 21 December 2006 04:52 (nineteen years ago)

i'm upstate for xmas weekend
for new years i'm in the city, need to figure out what to do. would totally go to teh ward over some retarded expensive thing. we'll see.

v (sleep), Thursday, 21 December 2006 06:30 (nineteen years ago)

new year, new problems. yayyyy, let's celebrate!

catwon (catwon), Thursday, 21 December 2006 06:50 (nineteen years ago)

LIFE IS NOT EASY.

ian (orion), Thursday, 21 December 2006 06:55 (nineteen years ago)

I HAVE HOTEL ROOM PARTY INVITE AND LOFT PARTY INVITE IN DUMBO

jw (ex machina), Thursday, 21 December 2006 07:11 (nineteen years ago)

jon...hotel room. please?

catwon (catwon), Thursday, 21 December 2006 07:13 (nineteen years ago)

jon, you also have an invite for an impromptu party at O'HARE INT'L AIRPORT due to WEATHER CONDITIONS.

elmo albatross (allocryptic), Thursday, 21 December 2006 14:59 (nineteen years ago)

I'll be kind of envious if you go.
i will be too

i don't know who girl talk is but it will be the debut of jimmy hollywood & jered from the ponys band "white savage". i'm really hoping for a train wreck in the best sense of the words.

otto midnight, that 'tofu makes you gay' ding dong (otto midnight), Thursday, 21 December 2006 15:04 (nineteen years ago)

elmo, Inland on high totally terrible (for same reason as 2001, it doesn't need them). but then the one time i tried to trip the shrooms musta been from Campbell's Soup.

My usu NYE strategy is cower in apt. til 1 am, then go out til 7.

Dr M (Dr Morbius), Thursday, 21 December 2006 15:05 (nineteen years ago)

My usu NYE strategy is cower in apt. til 1 am, then go out til 7.

damn, why didn't i ever think of this?

otto midnight, that 'tofu makes you gay' ding dong (otto midnight), Thursday, 21 December 2006 15:10 (nineteen years ago)

the party i am going to here on new years now has a few posters in my neighbourhood that are AWESOME and look pretty much like someone smeared muted neon blue, yellow, orange and pink on random walls. but if you look up close you will see that it says "party at the p1nes with hawkwind (just kiding) and some other bands" (the 'some other bands' part is actually a list of bands, but the hawkwind part is real, w/ typo! haha! i think it'll be pretty great.)

impermanent rrrobyn (rrrobyn), Thursday, 21 December 2006 15:28 (nineteen years ago)

morbs is totally right...no sense in being chemically enhanced for already reality shattering film...its just rude

hmmm, last year i had a 3 day bender leading up to nye and found myself in a little champaigne spraying battle with the host of the party i was at (all in good fun, he started it)....think this year might be quieter...thinking just a few lovely people round the house...

bb (bbia), Thursday, 21 December 2006 15:45 (nineteen years ago)

champagne spraying battle sounds good tho

ohman, and s1ocki's party includes glass of CHAMPAGNE and bowl of CHILI! and oh the dancing, obv. torne

impermanent rrrobyn (rrrobyn), Thursday, 21 December 2006 15:53 (nineteen years ago)

JW, dj nights are such a pain, just ask Phil Two! You have to guarantee a certain number of people, who will have a certain amount of visibly apparent fun and generate a certain amount of revenue for the bar...PLUS lugging the rekkids (tho I only own, like, ten records to begin with). And that's not including any technical no-how (I have none) or making the crowd happy/dancey with your musical choices (I am prob the only person here who can dance to soul for three hours straight...?). So I think that is not a good plan. If someone else spins, though, I will go!!

Laurel (Laurel), Thursday, 21 December 2006 18:18 (nineteen years ago)

YOU EVER HEAR OF MP3S, OLD LADY?

jw (ex machina), Thursday, 21 December 2006 19:01 (nineteen years ago)

jw (ex machina), Thursday, 21 December 2006 19:09 (nineteen years ago)

have i told the story about: ~8 years ago someone called me to tell me he had dxm, but i knew this guy from college radio so i thought he was trying to tell me about some new radio station he wanted to start. so we had a 10 minute conversation where he was talking about drugs and i was talking about online broadcasting.

Carey (Carey), Thursday, 21 December 2006 19:13 (nineteen years ago)

drunk is the only way i dance

Dr M (Dr Morbius), Thursday, 21 December 2006 19:13 (nineteen years ago)

not true Laurel...depends on the location/space and your relationship with the people involved. I've thrown many events with no success to great success!

anyway, here's another:

andrew, remember when we heard RIO outside the pizza place and had elaborate nazi fantasy involving 8 bit city grid wrapping around?

jw (ex machina), Friday, 22 December 2006 08:06 (nineteen years ago)

I remember being stuck in DOS, scared of 8-bit nazi werewolves, and Asian girls being the enemy. (Fat emo girls were our allies; they were all explosives & demolition experts.)

Is the Crashin' In/12 Hour Party People in W'burg any good?

Matilda Wormwood (Mary ), Sunday, 24 December 2006 19:27 (nineteen years ago)

Err...probably? I think Lio's involved with that, and I like him and his records. I've never gotten my shit together to actually GO to Crashin' In, though.

Laurel (Laurel), Sunday, 24 December 2006 19:30 (nineteen years ago)

i don't think i've had a good new year's in forever.

this year i will be in a small village in northern england with my family and no friends. it'll probably be quiet, and done by 1am.

unless i can convince my cousin to go out in the Big City, but he's a serious liability.

baby wizard sex (gbx), Sunday, 24 December 2006 19:35 (nineteen years ago)

this will be my third new year's in a row at a cabin on an island, drinking beer with friends and stumbling around the woods

jergins (jergins), Sunday, 24 December 2006 19:46 (nineteen years ago)

I had a great NYE at Muthafucka once in...2001? Partly cos it didn't start until 2 so I had midnight w/ friends & booze on the (dry) Wash Park fountain, declaiming poetry. Then dancing & make-out! Very good. But in later years that party has sucked, and it's too crowded for NYE.

Two years ago I did "99 Red Balloons" with backing band to a full Uncle Joe's, that was fun.

Laurel (Laurel), Sunday, 24 December 2006 19:55 (nineteen years ago)

the image of laurel at motherfucker has me rofflin.

ian (orion), Sunday, 24 December 2006 19:58 (nineteen years ago)

I was not always the dried-up crone you see before you.

Laurel (Laurel), Sunday, 24 December 2006 19:59 (nineteen years ago)

Also it was not all gothy then...there was always a room with "normal" hipster DJing, usually Justine & Co., which was all right.

Laurel (Laurel), Sunday, 24 December 2006 20:00 (nineteen years ago)

I am going to stab all of you in the face if anyone whines (any more) about NYE. I AM STUCK IN BACKWARDS-ASS-NOWHERELAND. Be thankful to be in NYC and having fun with friends!

^^^^ this happy holiday message brought to you by PMS and my fucking crazy family.

Jessie the Monster (scarymonster), Sunday, 24 December 2006 20:30 (nineteen years ago)

well..there's a NYE at Rubulad too..which so far seems more fun than anything else that's going on that night

catwon (catwon), Sunday, 24 December 2006 21:16 (nineteen years ago)

it is b1lly m1ll3r's birthday on NYE, but i don't think he's gonna have a party this year. honestly i have no idea what to do, i just hope i get to make out with someone.

ian (orion), Sunday, 24 December 2006 21:21 (nineteen years ago)

abcessed tooth: confirmed.

i'm on anti-biotics and dealing with the pain, so i won't be making it to nyc for new years. so bummed. i even started this thread! i would make for lousy company anyway -- can't booze, prone to sudden fits of toothy agony, sucking on ice cubes to numb the swelling, etc.

consolation: i will definitely make it down soon! like maybe in feb or some shit.

elmo albatross (allocryptic), Friday, 29 December 2006 23:09 (nineteen years ago)

Elmo, when I had two nerves die off (no insurance) the only way I could cope was to dose with Advil extra-strength gelcaps (and be sure to set alarm for before they wore off so I could re-dose before the pain woke me up). I hear you have the hard stuff so maybe you're okay but I know from that pain.

Laurel (Laurel), Friday, 29 December 2006 23:12 (nineteen years ago)

i don't like the vicodin, really -- it didn't actually stop the pain, it just makes me feel loopy and wordy and distractable, my train of thought gets tangled into nonsensical run-on babble, the content of which is usually informed by whatever i've been reading/watching. last night i watched TAXI DRIVER / read excerpts from BUTT BOOK == rambling travis bickle vigilante faggot weirdness.

laurel, i'm feeling much better now! i think the antibiotics have kicked in -- it usually takes about 48-72 hours for that to happen, so i should be fine until i can get the root canal. also, i hope to meet you whenever i convalesce and get to nyc!

elmo albatross (allocryptic), Saturday, 30 December 2006 04:24 (nineteen years ago)

hello give me the vicodin!

Dr M (Dr Morbius), Saturday, 30 December 2006 20:14 (nineteen years ago)

i will go to ww (or wherever). i can justify that as not "really" manhattan because it's such a short commute back to my place.

Ward/Crashin' In/Subtonic, are my choices. And I'm planning to dress up regardless so you may find me at the Ward with all my favorite accessories: heels/beer/cig.

subtonic on new years is anton no ordinary monkey style disco party.

subtonic on new years eve eve just finished and was fucking fantastic.

DJ lineup wise the coolest thing is probably Club Love, but people don't really go there.

i cleaned my apartment yesterday in, i guess, anticipation of that feeling (oh, half cleaned. so many piles of random things - it takes time to unpile them.) it's new year's eve though! it's always fun as long as you minimize the pressure to Have Fun. (i just got new w33d. and am going to hang out with people i adore. and be in a midnight marching band.)

Okay, people, what'll it be? Vic? Ian? Carey, I don't have yr no. but would meet you for Crashin' In, if you're still going. It's a cash-only bar, which suggests to me that the space is off-the-books and therefore smokeable...? Or maybe cash-only is just to minimize confusion on a very busy night. Whatevs.

Tyrone Slothrop (Tyrone Slothrop), Sunday, 31 December 2006 23:57 (nineteen years ago)

doing work at the pub now.
NYE was submitting Pazz and Jop, watching the Jets game, an odd brunch apartment party in brooklyn at arcadia (craziest apartment of all time); mediocre salami and mustard sandwich at an Italian restaurant run by hispanics bumpin' middle eastern music, 'Pan's Labyrinth' (which is as good as I'd hoped) and some late night hijinx downstairs in about two hours.
Can't complain

3 bloody marys at brunch, nice.

Tyrone Slothrop (Tyrone Slothrop), Monday, 1 January 2007 18:21 (nineteen years ago)

we went to a loft party in soho, girlfriend's friend's friend's parents place, rich as HELL. Filled with RICH people in their early/mid 20s, one of the hosts had suprising taste in music and I heard Lindstrom and Joakim on the stereo, but that was usually replaced by the Smiths. Then there was some sort of post-punk hits comp or something going on, Joy Division, Siouxsie, Tones on Tail, all a bit disconcerting if you saw this crowd. We drove home at 2. Now since we're well prepared, we'll going to make breakfast of baked eggs with peppers, mushrooms and goat cheese and some roasted potatoes. And Bloody Marys of course.

Speaking of breakfast, any of you been to Lamb and Jaffy on Manhattan? We went yesterday, I had the Turkish Breakfast and it was UNHOLY how good it was.

dan selzer (dan selzer), Monday, 1 January 2007 18:25 (nineteen years ago)

Wasn't hungover either. I hope starting the new year with 2 PBR's will not be emblamatic of things to come. I got breakfast to go from a Chintatown bakery to take on the bus with me, but I don't think I really like Chinese-style baked goods. Also brought back bagels and bialys from Kossars. What is that giant blue building that has spouted on the LES?
