I've read about half of it, does it make sense if it's read to the end?
Also do you think it's cynically written, like the author knows anything he churns out will be hailed as a masterpiece?

from what i've read ishiguro is very concerned with his audience and how his works are read. i don't think he takes his reknown for granted, whether it's deserved or not.

The Unconsoled is the marmitest book I know. I love it. I think it's deeply uncynical, in fact incredibly heartfelt and moving. And no it will not make any more sense if read to the end.

Agree w ledge. It makes as much sense on page 63,000 as it did on page 63. No more, no less. Fucking maddening, but very true to what it describes. Painful, frustrating, almost almost almost almost but never quite. Made me sad.
