just listening to this for the first time now, "Way Too Gone" beat is sick

some dude (Mr. Stevenson #2), Thursday, 29 December 2011 02:49 (twelve years ago) link

yeah that song is p dope. Mike Will is good & future is a dope songwriter

joey joe joe junior shabadoo, Thursday, 29 December 2011 06:11 (twelve years ago) link

mike will just released a comp btw

joey joe joe junior shabadoo, Thursday, 29 December 2011 06:11 (twelve years ago) link

Yeah "Way Too Gone" was one of the standouts for me on first listen. This isn't as immediate as The Recession was, but I'm liking it well enough so far.

yeah it's by no means as good as The Recession but it's pretty solid, kind of a shame it's already been preordained as Jeezy's worst album to date by people who care too much about whether someone is 'so hot right now' or not.

haven't heard this yet, but i'm not really into lil lody

he puts in good work on this album -- i guess he's the 'offbrand lex luger' but his sound is a little more spacious and fits jeezy better

some dude (Mr. Stevenson #2), Thursday, 29 December 2011 15:31 (twelve years ago) link

still struggling to listen to this all the way through but there are definitely some great tracks. currently i fuck with 'way too gone', 'all we do', 'everythang', 'trapped' and 'never be the same'. you gotta let jeezy albums sit for a bit imo.

gucc_ebooks (tpp), Thursday, 29 December 2011 22:35 (twelve years ago) link

also haven't gone for a drive with this album yet - v important my enjoyment of young jeezy

gucc_ebooks (tpp), Thursday, 29 December 2011 22:36 (twelve years ago) link

these Mike Will beats are right in the spot where I'm not sure if they're too adrift or not, but typically (& best on "sitting low" with gibbs imo) they are juuuust on the right side of the song / atmosphere divide
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZyovVOIZaQs

he should have taken this for his album, tho, instead of gibbs'

joey joe joe junior shabadoo, Thursday, 29 December 2011 22:55 (twelve years ago) link

One of the things about his album is that he's really got one of the great rap voices of the 00s & there just arent other rappers who can compare

otm

gucc_ebooks (tpp), Thursday, 29 December 2011 22:57 (twelve years ago) link

damn hadn't heard 'sitting low'..feeling it

gucc_ebooks (tpp), Thursday, 29 December 2011 22:59 (twelve years ago) link

tbh I think Gibbs & Jeezy on a track together just serves to make Jeezy look better by comparison. For Gibbs sake, he should stick to having Jeezy as a cosign

joey joe joe junior shabadoo, Thursday, 29 December 2011 23:00 (twelve years ago) link

I'll give it another listen. given how many albums I've been listening to lately, often times I haven't gotten back to an album after a sour first listen so I at least owe Jeezy that.

Not like he gives a fuck what I think but

if you ain't gonna wash it, i ain't gonna eat it, Friday, 30 December 2011 02:03 (twelve years ago) link

i gave it another listen on that exact basis and it didn't get any better

degas-dirty monet (lex pretend), Friday, 30 December 2011 02:07 (twelve years ago) link

now you have me worried because there is so little precious time in this life and if i listen and it sucks then i will never get that time back

what is i gon do fuuuuck

if you ain't gonna wash it, i ain't gonna eat it, Friday, 30 December 2011 02:09 (twelve years ago) link

thing is Jeezy made SO many mixtapes full of album-quality songs in the run up to this record that it's gonna be very hard to say this wouldn't be better if he'd swapped out something for this song from Trap Or Die 2 or that song from etc.

i'm still mad that "Flexin'" isn't on this, that song is a fucking hit imo.

anyone know if this is on spotify

so far this is coming across better to me. it still doesn't have many of the aggro street anthems that made Recession awesome but this is much more enjoyable to me on second listen than it was the first time.

def feel whiney's comments on it tho. it does get a bit 'samey'.

still tho....pretty good

yeah i agree w/ a lot of the criticisms of this album, i guess at some level i think that jeezy is a major enough artist that its hard to turn around & be like, "oh btw this doesn't even compare to mr. muthafuckin exquire" tho know what i mean?

joey joe joe junior shabadoo, Friday, 30 December 2011 06:22 (twelve years ago) link

I still couldnt' finish it this time. this album just isn't holding my attention after about 10 or 11 tracks :/.

if you ain't gonna wash it, i ain't gonna eat it, Friday, 30 December 2011 06:24 (twelve years ago) link

good stuff sprinkled throughout but it wears thin quickly.

if you ain't gonna wash it, i ain't gonna eat it, Friday, 30 December 2011 06:25 (twelve years ago) link

as if TM101 and TM102 were back to front classics

nice catch cuauhtemoc blanco niño (dayo), Friday, 30 December 2011 13:17 (twelve years ago) link

it's DEFINITELY better than 102

some dude (Mr. Stevenson #2), Friday, 30 December 2011 13:27 (twelve years ago) link

I can pretty much listen to all of TM101, so I consider that one a back to front classic -- might be a few duds, but not many! same with Recession.

I haven't heard The Inspiration in ages so hard to compare. again this album isn't BAD, but it's not what I was hoping for from him. it's less him as much as some of the production which doesn't always suit him.

if you ain't gonna wash it, i ain't gonna eat it, Friday, 30 December 2011 13:42 (twelve years ago) link

lyrically and vocally tho he's still in fine form......

OK who else thought the thread title read, "Jerry Sandusky"?

Ryan LZA (Leee), Friday, 30 December 2011 18:04 (twelve years ago) link

^^ no joke, i was listening to the 'lookin out for them boys, no homo' part of "Circulate" when i read this post

some dude (Mr. Stevenson #2), Friday, 30 December 2011 18:48 (twelve years ago) link

pretty much Recession > TM 101 > TM 103 > TM 102

shakur rump (I left my login in El Sandboxo), Friday, 30 December 2011 21:15 (twelve years ago) link

absolutely

some dude (Mr. Stevenson #2), Friday, 30 December 2011 21:16 (twelve years ago) link
