I take the point about the only women in it being strippers and cheerleaders (but wasn't Buffy also a cheerleader? And didn't everyone love her?) but I still love this show. I suppose I'm prepared to love any show that's not another Law and Order or CSI spinoff, but I just think it's fun and comic book-y and has dippy moments in it. Also is kind of creepy and slightly more gory than I was expecting.

And I am officially laying FIVE AMERICAN DOLLAR on DL being dead in ep11 (which sucks because I loved him).

I think Peter's vision + sickness are because of his proximity to Sylar & his degrading DNA, and also because of that he will now be able to start RETAINING powers. And then in s1 finale there will be a recap of the PP (Peter) / GG (Sylar) showdown, only now with more power!

I actually find Claire's story more compelling than most of the others. Maybe I'm just the emotional maleable pushover the show's writers are hoping for though.

Two actually kind of heartbreaking things in this episode, both Claire related:

1. the way Nathan and whatever Claire's mom's name is both seemed to secretly deep down want a real reunion, but Nathan can't not be a douche, and wtf with Firemom keeping 75%? I bet she owes money to LINDERMAN.

2. Claire's adoptive mom I think has been memory-wiped one time too many, she has nothing left...she has been so annoying (albeit sometimes hilariously so), but I genuinely found that saddening (maybe more for Claire, who keeps getting pushed further and further into a corner [save the cheerleader Uncle Peter Petrelli!])

I caught that too. I think that is the biggest difference for me between LOST/HEROES: something like that would've pissed me off with LOST, with HEROES I'm just like "LOL this makes no sense, now go get that sword dude".

Man Heroes has been so disappointing lately. It feels like they're stalling for time with all those side-stories cause they have no clue how to end the main one. I kinda felt like those last few episodes ( OK, mostly monday's) were like Colin Farrell and Gong Li escapade to Cuba in Miami Vice. Sure, it may look nice and shit, but it completely breaks the momentum of your movie/TV show.

onimo (nu_onimo), Thursday, 15 February 2007 23:40 (seventeen years ago) link

I think Mohinder & Sylar are going to hang long enough they can develop a really obvious Magneto/Prof X friendship/respect thing.

nklshs (nklshs), Thursday, 15 February 2007 23:43 (seventeen years ago) link

Then Sylar will take his list and kill him.

nklshs (nklshs), Thursday, 15 February 2007 23:43 (seventeen years ago) link

Hence "(or is he?)" there. But, right now, what reason does Sylar have to kill him? He can lead Sylar right to his victims (or, um, to Mohinder's flat where he helpfully has Sylar's hit list in lovely yellow post-its all over his wall)

ailsa_xx (ailsa_xx), Thursday, 15 February 2007 23:45 (seventeen years ago) link

also Hope calling him Sulu, DO YOU SEE?

Actually, I fail to see :(
This series brings out the killer in me and I couldn't agree more with you nklshs about sylar killing mohinder. But don't forget to go after Peter Prickelli afterwards Sylar.

jibe (jibe), Thursday, 15 February 2007 23:47 (seventeen years ago) link

Given Sylar's brane power stealing capabilities he should be able to chop floppy haired Indian bloke's floppy hair off and hoover the list out of his skull.

onimo (nu_onimo), Thursday, 15 February 2007 23:48 (seventeen years ago) link

ha, like it's all in there.

jibe, Sulu is in Star Trek played by George Takei who played Hiro's dad last week. DO YOU NOW SEE?

(OMG, I am EXPLAINING Star Trek references, what is WRONG with me?)

ailsa_xx (ailsa_xx), Thursday, 15 February 2007 23:51 (seventeen years ago) link

Of course it's all in there. Mohindar has phoned everyone on the list.

onimo (nu_onimo), Thursday, 15 February 2007 23:52 (seventeen years ago) link

Even if he hadn't - the location of The List and how to access it would be in there.

onimo (nu_onimo), Thursday, 15 February 2007 23:53 (seventeen years ago) link

Mohinder is totally not giving up his day job to start selling double glazing and conservatories. But, yeah, I guess it'll be in there somewhere.

ailsa_xx (ailsa_xx), Thursday, 15 February 2007 23:54 (seventeen years ago) link

That said, he only steals power, not knowledge.

I wonder what Mohindar's (bah, you've got me remembering his name now!) power, if he has one, is...

onimo (nu_onimo), Thursday, 15 February 2007 23:58 (seventeen years ago) link

The power to make everyone forget his name and/or how to spell it? I bet it is a really fucking lame power, even lamer than whatever Mr Mugglez' power is. Where's Claire's wee bro gone?

I kind of liked Zane's kettle-melting powers.

ailsa_xx (ailsa_xx), Friday, 16 February 2007 00:01 (seventeen years ago) link

The "stand back it could be messy" thing that Sylar nicked was bollocks - not even a slight splash.

I'm struggling to think of cool uses for Melty Power apart from impressing stoned mates.

(OMG, I am EXPLAINING Star Trek references, what is WRONG with me?)

This is the second time you have explained a Star Trek ref to me. Watch out, you are on a slippery slope!!

jibe (jibe), Friday, 16 February 2007 00:05 (seventeen years ago) link

I've never even seen an episode of Star Trek in my life!

Cool uses for melty power = melting guns and handcuffs and stuff like that (also impressing stoned mates). Actually would the blades Sylar killed him with not have melted on impact with him?

(I've only had like an hour to digest all this stuff, not having been doing things like emailing my pals all afternoon to swap theories)

ailsa_xx (ailsa_xx), Friday, 16 February 2007 00:07 (seventeen years ago) link

Oh also, I have a question that has nothing to do with the last ep, but with the one before that. Why is it that even though Sylar gets shot by big man Bennett (he clearly gets one in the chest, hits the fridge) he does not die? Has he eaten the brain on Kevlar man or something?

jibe (jibe), Friday, 16 February 2007 00:10 (seventeen years ago) link

Dos Sylar use blades? I thought he zapped wrong cheerleader's crown off with his index finger.

onimo (nu_onimo), Friday, 16 February 2007 00:11 (seventeen years ago) link

We don't know how many powers Sylar has gained. He came back from being dead remember - getting shot's in the chest's a piece of piss after that.

onimo (nu_onimo), Friday, 16 February 2007 00:12 (seventeen years ago) link

shot's? wtf

onimo (nu_onimo), Friday, 16 February 2007 00:12 (seventeen years ago) link

I didn't think he got hit, I thought he ran out of the house.

Oh, I just assumed knives. maybe not.

ailsa_xx (ailsa_xx), Friday, 16 February 2007 00:16 (seventeen years ago) link

Yeah he got shot and flew back into the fridge or something, then fell to the floor. Thing is though, the Haitian was there so Sylar shouldn't have been able to use any powers to escape.

onimo (nu_onimo), Friday, 16 February 2007 00:22 (seventeen years ago) link

When exactly did he come back from being dead? I thought he faked becoming really ill .. oh wait actually I remember watching that ep (the one where he escapes from Primatech) completely drunk, not understanding a single thing and thinking he had survived by leeching the cockroach's amazing survival powers. Or something.

I'm pretty sure he was it by the bullet as there is no other reason for him to fall back on the fridge the way he does. Or maybe Bennett yelled "Surprise!" when coming in and that did it.

jibe (jibe), Friday, 16 February 2007 00:22 (seventeen years ago) link

Very early in the series, Sylar's been shot already (by Psychic Cop and FBI Girlfriend), and he either played possum or was actually fazed before springing back to life though I would not his sort of life "living"!

(OMG, I am EXPLAINING Star Trek references, what is WRONG with me?)

ailsa, you ought to know that I'm proud of you.

Sooo.... did no one watch the latest?

Stuck in ILX Limbo (Roz), Tuesday, 20 February 2007 13:10 (seventeen years ago) link

Um this episode was totally DOPE dudes. I love that they are utilizing my three favorite villain archetypes: the shady guy working for some vast conspiracy, the once-nerdy guy who is now power hungry and crazed, the once normal nice guy ("TeddyBear616") whose life was ruined by his "gift".

Semi-hilarious fun fact: State Gaming Commission dude that had the talk with Hiro about partners was played by Bill Fagerbakke, voice of Spongebob Squarepants' best friend Patrick. Yet another thing this show has in common with LOST: Spongebob voice actors showing up for menacing-ish guest spots.

I was wondering how long it would be until Peter realized he had mooched some powers from Sylar. I imagine that's who he got the sonic boom voice from, as well as the telekinesis. I will miss Dr Invisiwho, but I'm glad Peter Petrelli has managed to become an interesting, fun-to-watch character, when, back in the olden days, he seemed so completely awful.

haha xpost

nklshs (nklshs), Tuesday, 20 February 2007 13:14 (seventeen years ago) link

Dude, how did Peter become so awesome in the space of one episode?! I like crazy Pete.

Sonic boom voice was from Eden, right? which he probably got when he went to see Mohinder early on.

Stuck in ILX Limbo (Roz), Tuesday, 20 February 2007 13:22 (seventeen years ago) link

Oh wait, never mind - she had that voice when she was persuading people, not throwing them back. But it could have been both - that and the telekinesis.

nklshs (nklshs), Tuesday, 20 February 2007 13:25 (seventeen years ago) link

I liked Simone but it's okay with me that she died.

Also how did Glasses Dad know DeVeaux Building?

And did Claude have his tracking dealies ripped out, or were his made by a much more primitive device (all those years ago)? His scar thingies looked WAY grodier than the others.

nklshs (nklshs), Tuesday, 20 February 2007 13:27 (seventeen years ago) link

I think Claude got his taken out, they thought he was dead remember?

Yeah I didn't mind Simone dying - death of THE girl is always the best hero motivator, not to mention a potential Peter/Isaac face-off!

Stuck in ILX Limbo (Roz), Tuesday, 20 February 2007 13:30 (seventeen years ago) link

I thought at first when Bennett gave Isaac the gun that this was the day he gets killed by Sylar (remember when Hiro found the gun?).

But then Peter turned up and I thought, oh noes he's gonna slice Isaac's head open with Sylar's powers! Awesome!

No such luck. :(

-- nklshs (nklsh...), February 20th, 2007.

that was my thought, too... but then later in the episode they were talking about how the tracking device was a radioisotope that was in their bloodstreams, which I don't really think you could rip out.

also:

- jesus christ, Sylar! talk about yr impulse control problems! he's just lucky that Mohinder somehow makes even worse decisions than him.
- Peter is a total fucking bad-ass! at first I was worried that his multi-power outburst on the rooftop was a one-time thing that he would struggle to replicate, but apparently not!
- semi-related: I guess this means the haitian doesn't actually have power suppression? either that, or he inexplicably opted to wear thermal goggles rather than oh hmm I dunno TURNING OFF THEIR INVISIBILITY PERHAPS
- interrogation of Bennett = perfect way to reveal some more details and advance the plot. good call, writers.

I was thinking that maybe his power-blocking only works for mental-type powers (when Eden & Haitian confronted Sylar it was Eden that actually subdued him I think), he's only been able to affect powers of persuasion/telepathy etc (he couldn't keep Nathan Petrelli from flying away, for instance).

OK, one thing: in all the previous premonitions regarding PP blowing up everything, Simone is there - maybe she's not dead?!?! PP possibly uses Sylar TK to staunch the bleeding or something?

ALSO: Sylar has a lot more going on than just the TK (which he stole using his "I know brains" power). Does PP have those other powers as well, or does someone have to whip it out for PP to absorb it?

David RER (Frank Fiore), Tuesday, 20 February 2007 16:18 (seventeen years ago) link

We don't know what else Sylar has besides telekinesis except for Googlebrane. And so far, PP has only used powers that other people have used. He hasn't been remembering a lot lately so maybe he can't absorb any powers unless it's being used.

Stuck in ILX Limbo (Roz), Tuesday, 20 February 2007 16:25 (seventeen years ago) link

I don't remember, but, when Hiro went back to save Charlie*, did Sylar still get her sweet sweet brains, or did she die of that brain thing she had? Also he now has super hearing (also maybe super hip-hop appreciation) and that molecular destabilization thing (but obv Peter does NOT have these powers).**

*haha this actress was on Ugly Betty and her name was Charlie and she was from a small town on that show too, I wonder if it was intentional

Finally Peter becomes a good character. Whiny Peter is dead, long live angry Peter! I am however pretty sad that we probably won't see invisible dude anymore, he was definitely one of the most enjoyable heroes if not the most.

Also, I couldn't help but think that the Others are Heroes (which was a theory I had a long time back) thanks to that one Nathan Petrelli sentence.
