My gf, a huge silent fan, was giving me grief for having my b-day on a night when those are playing, morbs. Thank god for the DVR.

I believe January is JEAN ARTHUR Month!

Dr M (Dr Morbius), Monday, 18 December 2006 20:16 (seventeen years ago) link

Really? you better not be messing with me, Morbs. I heart Jean Arthur.

Ruud Haarvest (KenL), Monday, 18 December 2006 20:39 (seventeen years ago) link

Looks like 17 J.A. films on Tuesdays, Ken! (not History Is Made at Night, alas)

Dr M (Dr Morbius), Monday, 18 December 2006 20:56 (seventeen years ago) link

I still haven't seen A Foreign Affair, grr.

Alfred Soto (Alfred, Lord Sotosyn), Monday, 18 December 2006 20:56 (seventeen years ago) link

I've seen January program guide, and for some reason A Foreign Affair hasn't been include in the J.A. retro. However, sometime in the middle of the month (I forget the date), in the early early morning, at the tail end of a Kirk Douglas set, TCM will be premiering...

TBS ALERT: Crimmus story for 24 hours! DID YOU KNOW?

I don't have TCM, which is a shame bcz I've wanted to see Witchfinder General for a fucking long time. In the meantime I will have to sate myself by listening to "Witchfinder General" by Witchfinder General on repeat.

Ace in the Hole: 2:30 am, night of 1/24. Try to overlook that it goes kinda candyass in the last 10 minutes (I wonder if Wilder wrote anything else first, or just knew he'd have to please the Code). Also it's back at Film Forum NYC January 12-18.

In the weekly Donen thing (no Bedazzled, hmph) tonight, Seven Brides for Seven Brothers at 10, followed by Give A Girl A Break featuring the Champions and young Bob Fosse.

Meet Me in St. Louis on Christmas morning at 11:30 if you want a good cry with the family.

Dr M (Dr Morbius), Wednesday, 20 December 2006 14:42 (seventeen years ago) link

Ace in the Hole and Meet Me in St Louis playing in the same 24-hr time frame is like watching Lucifer and Michael leading their respective hosts into battle.

Alfred Soto (Alfred, Lord Sotosyn), Wednesday, 20 December 2006 15:31 (seventeen years ago) link

Well, they're not -- Ace is January 24/25 (tho I like your Christmas Eve programming instincts).

The whole last half hour, or at least up until "Spring," is pretty much me on the verge of losing it, though maybe never more so than when Grandpa saves Judy from her dance card for her last dance in St. Louis.

Hell, I cry at the beginning when I think about how much the maid loves her employers.

The Rock films are tonite, including Dick Lester's "It's Trad, Dad!" And later, on TCM Underground, Vincent Price is..."The Last Man On Earth"

I never knew Mr. Atoz was Herbert Marshall's butler in Foreign Correspondent until tonight, unless somebody told me on that other thread and I forgot.

Ruud Haarvest (KenL), Monday, 1 January 2007 01:42 (seventeen years ago) link

I had Night at the Opera on for a few minutes and found I could mouth most of Groucho's opening lines with him.

JEAN ARTHUR Month commences tonight, but no rarities til next week.
