i was there live and it was fucking great. The edited clips i saw online seemed a bit choppy with the cuts but the material is, as noted, fucking great.

yeah i wondered if the choppiness was just emblematic of them being offcuts though. i saw it the night after (& he said the night before had been the best night of the tour, so that's good) & loved it.

I liked his tweet this morning asking people not to pirate it - apparently he paid for every bit of the production and spent a bunch on the servers he's using to stream/DL it.

sorta tangential but sorta not:

just knowing that he'd said he was paying for his special & was so evidently interested in what he could do w/it, it is an interesting side of him i think. the thing above is three parts but is so otm re: that kinda thing

curious to know how much he spent. I imagine that at least 50k ppl will pay for it legitimately (i did), probably many more. I would hazard that he was able to keep production costs down what with his one man production abilities (like it can't have cost more to shoot/produce a concert than a single ep of his show). I'll bet that he'll easily recoup costs, up his profile further, and garnish even more accolades from Internet nerds everywhere for his BOLD MARKETING

Bought it. Pretty good so far.

I liked it better than Chewed Up but not as much as Hilarious, but Hilarious might be impossible to top. I think I'm trying to say that it's great. Great material, really well produced, with an awesome introductory bit that gives you a feel for the venue. It's slightly different in tone than previous specials, but Louis isn't much of an everyman anymore.

two weeks pass...

So it's old news by now, but apparently the Beachn special broke a million bucks in ten days. His Fallon appearance (streamable on the NBC site) talks about it at length, including some hilariously brusque descriptions of the charities he wound up donating to with some of the extra dough.
