Indeed!

The guy who plays Yemi is in the guest cast for tonight's ep, and it airs on Dia De Los Muertos, well done Lindelof et al.

nklshs (nklshs), Wednesday, 1 November 2006 19:03 (seventeen years ago) link

I don't know how I feel about everything being so segmented this season -- I mean, we've had four episodes so far, and Locke, Sayid, Sun, and Jin have only been in one each. So I'm excited about the Losties from the beach going on an expedition to find their friends. I'm really hoping that this 6-episode mini-arc will end with some kind of coming together.

jaymc (jaymc), Wednesday, 1 November 2006 19:15 (seventeen years ago) link

I hope so too. But with cliffhangery momentum to lead into February's resumption.

I was about to relay what my cable channel guide says for tonight, but maybe it's too spoilery, plus everybody else probably already has their own source for the same info.

I Am Curious (George) (Slight Return) (Rock Hardy), Wednesday, 1 November 2006 19:20 (seventeen years ago) link

So, tonite is the last new episode until February?

grady (grady), Wednesday, 1 November 2006 19:46 (seventeen years ago) link

No, there's two more, including tonight.

jaymc (jaymc), Wednesday, 1 November 2006 19:48 (seventeen years ago) link

Last night I was thinking a lot about how the actor who plays Benry is really, really fantastic. Maybe I am reading more into it than I should but he always seems to show a lot of depth (hints of insecurity and weirdness when he is being big boss-man around the survivors, always seems way more composed and sure of himself interacting with the Others). It makes me happy is all.

haha, john, you are so hooked on a tv show!!

wait, so this ep and next ep and then no more new ones until february, are you kidding me? (see, i only watch tv shows, i srsly rarely know of tv things beyond the fictional spehere. ok, maybe actors'/directors'/writers' names but not much more really. reason #54543 to love the internet information zone and its insta-knowledge giving.)

otm re: benry actor!

impermanent rrrobyn (rrrobyn), Wednesday, 1 November 2006 20:16 (seventeen years ago) link

Jessie OTM re Henjamin/Benry. Also a very good sense of humor - his delivery on such a simple line as "you don't" (re: Sawyer "how do I know that's the same bunny?") - and weird tenderness that you almost NEVER get with tv villains.

And re: segmentation of cast, I've always loved in stupid fantasy novels etc when the disparate groups of characters miraculously come back together just in time for the most super important anyone-not-totally-bad-ass-need-not-apply missions, and am looking forward to February (as far away as it is) for Locke Sayid Des etc jungle adventures.

Also I hope they make "Nikki" and "Paulo" less shitty and/or more dead really soon.

nklshs (nklshs), Wednesday, 1 November 2006 20:30 (seventeen years ago) link

At least Paolo is hot. Nikki looks a whole lot like Fergie from Black Eyed Peas.

Jessie the Monster (scarymonster), Wednesday, 1 November 2006 20:41 (seventeen years ago) link

I chuckled at this from the TWOP recap:

Paulo is on the beach, knocking guava or mangos or whatever into the ocean. Oh, Paulo! At it again! Everybody drink!

jaymc (jaymc), Wednesday, 1 November 2006 20:46 (seventeen years ago) link

Only it's okay to pee yr pants on craphole island.

Me and my roommate wager on LOST a bunch. We wager bottles of wine for some reason. Here is our current anty:

He bet me 1 bottle we would see Michael/Walt in first 6 ep story arc.
I bet him 1 bottle we would see smoke monster in only ONE of last 2 eps of first 6.
He bet me 1 bottle "Karl" is an off-islander.
I bet him 1 bottle Ben and Tom are lovers.
He bet me 1 bottle the Borat movie would only play in 2 theaters here (unrelated and kind of retarded on his part).

nklshs (nklshs), Wednesday, 1 November 2006 20:48 (seventeen years ago) link

I bet him 1 bottle Ben and Tom are lovers.

jergins (jergins), Wednesday, 1 November 2006 20:53 (seventeen years ago) link

I met a lady who teaches at the private school that real-life Benry's real-life children attend. She said "it's creepy" when he comes to pick them up.

grady (grady), Wednesday, 1 November 2006 21:03 (seventeen years ago) link

Paulo is on the beach, knocking guava or mangos or whatever into the ocean.

It suddenly occurred to me that it's stupid and unrealistic for him to be destroying part of their FOOD SUPPLY, air-drop or no air-drop.

I Am Curious (George) (Slight Return) (Rock Hardy), Wednesday, 1 November 2006 21:13 (seventeen years ago) link

It looked like rocks to me. At first I was like "do they really have enough golf balls to be knocking them into the ocean like that?" But i'm pretty sure they were rocks.

52 week seasons? Good God, that's like asking congress to work all year!
I would like it back in Jan., because...it's dark and snowy and bleak in Jan., so it's nice to go to an island.
Plus, I can stop reviving "The Wire" thread, and discuss, endlessly, a different show.
I'm for the Losties for my bleak midwinter, as opposed to Baltimore.
I'd REALLY like to go to Deadwood, on my HBO ticket, but that ain't gonna happen.

The Lost drinking/general fun time game, with rules that change everytime I play it. Don't make fun of me.

Drink:

1. When there's a flashback, or it flashes back to the present
---1A - If you can predict that a flashback is coming just before it happens, you can give out 2 drinks. For example, if there is a whooshing noise and Hurley is just kind of staring off into space, that's a good time to yell out "Flashback!"

2. When there's strong tension between Jack and Locke.

3. When the Extras appear in a scene (obviously).

4. When Sawyer lays on his action movie star voice really thick.

5. When the Windows 98 screensaver-esque Lost logo pops up against the black background. Also, at this time you must look at the person next to you and whisper "Lost!"

6. When Hurley says Dude, or anything else that seems stereotypically Hurley.

7. When a main character dies, you must drink as much as you can stand, and mutter "oh shit...oh shit" to yourself a whole lot.

8. Whenever the polar bear or evil smoke appears.

There are more, which I'm sure you're DYING to read, but it's been a while.
*holds breath for new episodes*

I think we tend to use the monster when it relates directly to informing character, as opposed to just an arbitrary plot device that can move the trees around and make scary noises.

the people's prince (jergins), Monday, 12 February 2007 19:33 (seventeen years ago) link

I just read that interview with DL upthread:

There have been sort of vague questions as to how much story we have or what the plan is, and I think that the only thing that I’ve ever said on the record is that if we were in a position to actually end the show on our own terms, that it would probably be at the end of four years. That would be the ultimate nexus point for the show. But unfortunately, it’s completely moot whether it’s four years or five years or seven years, because I don’t own the show and [co-creator and executive producer] J.J. [Abrams] doesn’t own the show and [executive producer] Carlton [Cuse] doesn’t own the show - Touchstone and ABC own the show. And as long as it’s a show that is popular and that people are watching, they’ll never let us end it, which is sad and depressing.

I never knew this was how things in TV work. I was actually really hoping for them to end it at season 4/5 because I can totally see myself losing interest after the 4th year or so, if there are too many things unanswered.

And at the rate they're going, it's gonna be really tough to deal with the timeline - Losties are still in 2004 and we're in 2007 already.

Stuck in ILX Limbo (Roz), Monday, 12 February 2007 19:35 (seventeen years ago) link

I kind of hope after 4 or 5 years they have a finale that, while maybe not the END of the show is so obviously "GUYS STOP WATCHING NOW WE ARE JUST DOING IT BECAUSE THEY MAKE US FROM THIS POINT ONWARD" it will practically be an ending.

Hey on another subject, in season two, does anyone when Jack and Kate meet the others in the woods, while trying to get Michael back, whether Tom says "you stay on your half of the island" or "you stay on your side of the island"?

the people's prince (jergins), Tuesday, 13 February 2007 11:11 (seventeen years ago) link

Side.
Two days.
I do love Tom. I love the way he scurried for Jack after showing his blood revulsion.
i got really annoyed at Evangeline's two acting skills - kicking ass and sobbing into a microphone (walkie talkie) while doing her sad darting eye thing.
Why did she have to fall down, just like she does every time they run through the jungle? Not her fault, but...it's such a trope at this point.
And as has been pointed out upthread (the one in heaven/space)hammering the head of what's his face until he is left twitching should not have been resolved as what's his face suddenly awakening and escaping the cage to kill them.He shoulda been dead! or really disabled!
i hate any and every dramatic scene that has a female protaginist fumbling with whatever important thing she is handling.
it is done to death. the fluttering hands just don't fucking work any more.
Another fucking trope! I am really embracing my profanity this morning!
Kate fumbling with the lock, the walkie talkie, etc. needs to stop.
Anywhoo, I ate some great pasta carbonara last night! And now my tummy hurts:(

other than that, 100% agree.

actually, given Tom's "big friendly bear" demeanor of later episodes (as opposed to the growling Zeke persona), is there any chance that he (or any of the other regular Others) are brainwash victims themselves?

teh_kit (g-kit), Tuesday, 13 February 2007 22:10 (seventeen years ago) link

I think Tom is a THESPIAN, whereas we saw him as this growling scary kid-stealing guy come to life off the Gorton's fishstick box in the pre-Others Experience days, I think we're now supposed to get that he was just sort of hamming it up and playing a part (a part that involved kidnapping, raft-exploding, and bola-ing, but whatever).

The Many Faces of Gordon Jump (Leon), Tuesday, 13 February 2007 22:19 (seventeen years ago) link

Ok, maybe not Tom...
Thing is, it's not very plausible that they would have built the Branewash facility after being on the island for X amount of time, on the off-chance that some goofs would fall out of the sky and rumble whatever the fuck it is that they're doing. Thus, if the BW facility was part of the original setup, surely they would've taken some weak minded fools to the island to experiment on, that are now fully-fledged, albeit slightly brainwashed Others?

teh_kit (g-kit), Tuesday, 13 February 2007 22:20 (seventeen years ago) link

We need more Tom vs Sawyer zingplay, altho unlike Jack i guess Sawyer would still kill Tom given half a chance. i expect a situation will arise where Sawyer 'warms' to him more tho, as we have.

i am optimistic re Paolo and Nikki, in that either the writers will enable us to take great pleasure in seeing them be killed off by Island Momus or whoever OR they will actually become good characters somehow. i can't be bothered to actually dislike them.

I think the conclusion was that the hammering wasn't that bad, it was the electric shock you get on the third press of that button that disabled him, and that wears off with no long-term effects fairly quickly.

This was my favorite episode in a long time. I couldn't stomach another week of Jack, Sawyer, and Kate. Loser Island is the best! But more importantly, they got back to the weirdness. The more they explain about Dharma/Hanzo/Others, the less I care. I really don't understand people who need to know what's going on. When the "Next week on Lost" said they'd be answering some of the island's biggest questions, I thought, "Oh man, this is going to suck."

But I also like Charlie, so I guess I'm in the minority in more than one way.

OTM Scott. Without the mystery and intrigue, this show means nothing to me. (And were they implying that Jack's tats are one of the ISLAND'S! BIGGEST! SECRETS!?)

I have to admit that Charlie is annoying when he get's all overprotective about Claire and the baby. But in that case, the clear solution is to kill off Claire and the baby. Charlie needs to stick around so I can giggle about Britpop never-weres and hobbits.

Dude loser island is soooo much better.

I definitely think the creators' were right when they said this episode would make or break LOST for you--the whole "ZOMG FATE" and more "ISLAND ARE MAGICALS" implications could definitely turn a lot of people off. I LUFFED IT THOUGH.

METAL ROBOTIC HEAD FACE (scarymonster), Thursday, 15 February 2007 16:40 (seventeen years ago) link

en i see kay (EstrangedNative), Thursday, 15 February 2007 16:55 (seventeen years ago) link

Actually I really felt like it was closer to first season LOST than any episode since the, uh, first season. xxxpost

My theory is that Desmond's mind is going between two timelines--the one that started after the failsafe was hit started in the past, but actually moves in jumps and starts, so it's now a little bit into the future. Poor Desmond. :(

METAL ROBOTIC HEAD FACE (scarymonster), Thursday, 15 February 2007 16:58 (seventeen years ago) link

i feel like desmond was sent back along his own timeline, which is unchangeable, as is his future, and the island's

this is cutty (mcutt), Thursday, 15 February 2007 17:04 (seventeen years ago) link

but simply being sent back in time doesn't really explain knowing the future.

FAAAATEEEE.

METAL ROBOTIC HEAD FACE (scarymonster), Thursday, 15 February 2007 17:06 (seventeen years ago) link

his timeline is no longer linear

this is cutty (mcutt), Thursday, 15 February 2007 17:10 (seventeen years ago) link

therefore he keeps getting flashbacks to different points in time, whether they be past or future

this is cutty (mcutt), Thursday, 15 February 2007 17:10 (seventeen years ago) link

I can buy that!

But he definitely isn't PHYSICALLY time-traveling, so the issue of the number of timelines is kind of moot anyway, eh?

METAL ROBOTIC HEAD FACE (scarymonster), Thursday, 15 February 2007 17:12 (seventeen years ago) link

he is not physically time-travelling, but his memory has somehow been freed some the constraints of linear time

this is cutty (mcutt), Thursday, 15 February 2007 17:12 (seventeen years ago) link

METAL ROBOTIC HEAD FACE (scarymonster), Thursday, 15 February 2007 18:19 (seventeen years ago) link

Guys, Charlie's not dying. No way. Desmond CAN change fate, or else they wouldn't have played that damned Mamas and the Papas song TWICE.

And Beth OTM - you can ask my roommate, I really did say to him (during scene when she thanked Desmond for saving her) "jesus I forgot how cute Claire is!".

nklshs (nklshs), Thursday, 15 February 2007 18:24 (seventeen years ago) link

where do you think libby fits in with the boat?

she gives/sells it to him right? I guess the only question is who sent her to keep Desmond on the correct fate-path. Maybe Libby was some kind of Dharma manipulator, doing their dirty work in the "real world" -- nudging Desmond in the right direction, keeping an eye on Hurley in the psych ward ....

Desmond CAN change fate, or else they wouldn't have played that damned Mamas and the Papas song TWICE.

but he didn't change fate, the universe "course corrected" until he got to the cricket bat

dmr (dmr), Thursday, 15 February 2007 18:26 (seventeen years ago) link

another more literal course correction was that the island wouldn't let him leave on his boat, he sailed around in circles

dmr (dmr), Thursday, 15 February 2007 18:29 (seventeen years ago) link

re: claire

Not the accent so much ("MOY BOY-BEEE!") these days. But really, besides giving birth to Aaron, she's probably the most pointless main character and really should be demoted to Rose/Bernard status. But I also think it's a Claire and Charlie thing - on their own, they're ok, but together, blegh.

By the way, if you google Charlie Hieronymus Pace, the first result gets you an Italian biography of Hieronymus Bosch, translated by one Claire Pace.

Stuck in ILX Limbo (Roz), Thursday, 15 February 2007 19:03 (seventeen years ago) link

one thing is still bugging me about last week's episode and the Tom commment people were talking about -- "ever since the sky turned purple" their communications are down, or they can't get off the island anymore, or something

he was implying that if not for that event they would have sent Ben to a real-world clinic for surgery

but that doesn't really jibe with Ben saying they had targeted Jack bc of his surgical skillz .... they already had Jack in a hood when the sky turned purple

My guess is that island-born Ben would rather not leave for medical assistance. So they sought out Jack's help, but were keeping the off-island option as a last resort (like if Dr. Douchebag chose not to cooperate). But then... PURPLE SKY!

i feel like desmond was sent back along his own timeline, which is unchangeable

just a thought but was Charlie in the flashback really Charlie? if so it was a Charlie who never got famous (or else he would have been all YEAH YOU KNOW ME FROM DRIVESHAFT, BROTHA)

so some aspects of the past maybe are changeable?

although I think I agree that he didn't physically time-travel

Okay, a coaster. I wikied it.

Some beermats are collectible items. Tegestology is a latin term defined as the practice of collecting beermats or coasters, with practitioners known as tegestologists Collecting beermats is an especially popular hobby in Germany. There is an international collector's association called IBV in Germany since 1958. The British Beermat Collectors Society was founded shortly afterwards in 1960 and currently has around 300 members spread around the world. Like the IBV, it organizes regular meetings for collectors and also publishes a monthly newsletter. Other notable clubs associated with tegestology include the South Australian Coaster Collectors Club and New South Wales Coaster Collectors Club. There are many subcategories of tegestologists, including those who are solely interested in porcelain or other specific kinds of beermats.

The London bits were much more convincing than the portrayal of Brixton in one of Charlie's flashbacks, which was hilariously bad.

I think Charlie is going to die, but we'll spend the whole season waiting for it to happen.

Also, am I the only one who finds Claire's story really interesting? There's still that whole thing about the baby being special - and I'm assuming the psychic dude in the first series was experiencing the same phenomenon as Desmond?

Hurley appears to have got over his girlfriend dying like way quickly. Isn't it about three or four days?

Anyone else find the whole "Mr. Eko is dead, the island killed him" really unsatisfying and annoying since it was never alluded to again in this episode?

Yeah I was thinking about that too. I think focusing heavily on the flashback/dream/whatever took away a lot from what's going on on the Island at that moment. I mean, we really need to know what happens with Locke and looking north and I suspect by the time THAT episode rolls around, we've already forgotten why we should care.

I was just reading someone's complaint that at least part of why LOST is losing steam now is because there's too many personal subplots, whereas in the first season, everything that happened on the Island almost always involved the entire ensemble cast. It's really hard to follow what's going on with one group (Losties) when there's something else happening with another group (Kate/Sawyer) and yet another happening at the same time (Jack).

Stuck in ILX Limbo (Roz), Monday, 19 February 2007 10:49 (seventeen years ago) link

i think the rigidity of the format (ie the one character, one flashback) thing makes it really difficult for them to handle simultaneous action, which is kind of annoying. i suppose the last episode only sovered a few hours of island time, but those hours were probably covered on the prison island in episode six. i think they either need to kill a bunch of people or figure out how not to ignore them so much of the time.

that or: i kind of knew the six wouldn't work, even though there were some great bits, but these last two haven't done it for me either. maybe they should have made the six *entirely* about jack kate and sawyer on the other island and not bodged the other stuff. thus ep 7 could have started with more of a bang. getting them *off* the island is/was a big chore.

why lost is lost:

How to Fix It

For characters: Kill Jack. Kill Kate. Kill Nicki and Paolo (or whatever) and never, ever, ever make such a grade school attempt to introduce new characters again. Make Charlie interesting again instead of the whiny, jealous infant he became. Don't screw up Desmond. Cripple Locke and bring back his mystic bent. Let Sayid loose. More Sun & Jin. Make Sawyer say something besides "offensive attention-getter, unimaginative nickname. Sarcastic comment and/or question." Oh, and maybe explain where Danielle is after all this time.

There's lots of reasons to miss Sayid, not just for his badassery: 1. he's this show's Professor, I miss him building radios out of coconut leaves and Hurley's butt-sweat, 2. of all the man-candy on the island, he is the Great Romantic, 3. Sawyer saved all his best nicknames (Cpt. Falafel) and zingers for Sayid.

Did anyone check out the Polar Bear Mural thing?

teh_kit (g-kit), Monday, 19 February 2007 15:54 (seventeen years ago) link

One painting, in a style reminiscent of the mural Desmond painted on the Swan's wall on the Island, has polar bears, an inverted Buddha, mountain peaks, and the word Namaste on it. It and the third painting are on the wall opposite of the bar. Many viewers initially thought that the Namaste was written backwards. In the actual filming and the majority of the scene, the painting appears to Desmond's left, with Namaste written correctly. In initial shots the film was reversed, causing the painting to appear on Desmond's right with Namaste written backwards. It is unknown if this was intentional or not.

Captain Purple Items (nu_onimo), Monday, 19 February 2007 16:05 (seventeen years ago) link

In the orientation films they say "Thank you, namaste, and good luck" - namaste is a Hindi salutation.

There have been a lot of paintings of a similar style in LOST (Hatch wall mural, this one, Claire's babydaddy's paintings, etc) - I think this is because they were all painted by director Jack Bender.

discussing lost

this is cutty (mcutt), Tuesday, 20 February 2007 16:34 (seventeen years ago) link

I think the point is that when Sayid is doing proper stuff and it's his turn to be the story, he is great and compelling because you want to know more about him as a character and because he has an air of mystery about him. Jack, on the other hand, who is in the frame almost all the time, is not interesting and I wouldn't care if I didn't know anything else about his life.

The people I am interested in: Libby (admittedly, dead), Juliet, Sayid, Hurley, Locke, Alex, Desmond and Benry.

People I like but don't need to know any more about back story from: Sun, Jin, Charlie.

People I don't care about either on the island or before it: everyone else.

accentmonkey (accentmonkey), Tuesday, 20 February 2007 16:34 (seventeen years ago) link

having said that, which characters still have a lot of intrigue/unsolved riddles re their backstories? NOT Jack because we don't give a shit about the tattoos - i mean what else is there to reveal about him now? ditto Kate and Sawyer.

as far as survivors go it's still Locke at #1 and the story of his crippledom which they're dragging their feet on (arf) forever, plus the general 'belief/i'm special' thing. Hurley/Libby thing right behind, then probably Claire! so they are the three future flashbacks i'm looking fwd to most (bar Others) now.

SPOILERISH:

Claire flashback really soon (3 weeks I think?). According to Emily de Ravin it flashes back to a much younger Claire.

There are still a lot of gaps in the pre-island backstories of a bunch of original 815ers that have been talked about but not touched upon:

Sayid - apparently his father was some kind of Iraqi war hero or something, also all that moving around looking for Nadia

Hurley - THE DECK COLLAPSE and WTF LIBBY obviously

Sawyer - "The Tampa Job", a (possible) daughter!

Also they need to do some more childhood flashbacks - we've seen Jack, Sun, and Sawyer as children (albeit briefly), surely a super distant past flashback could be awesome.

Yeah, there's a little groundswell re: Heroes being the new Lost because it comes fast & furious w/ the twists AND puts out, instead of waiting for the right time to make w/ the revelations.

Yeah. I'm getting a little tired of all of the ponderous Jack/Kate/Sawyer action. If the Bai Ling ep is as bad as I suspect it will be, it might be the time I finally tune out.

resumo impetus (blueski), Tuesday, 20 February 2007 18:26 (seventeen years ago) link

it's worth noting that I read somewhere that Kring took his idea for Heroes to Lindelhoff who admits he got really envious of the concept "because it was so simple" or something.

anyway this was a really good episode, surprisingly. there are so many loose threads and dangling plotlines stretching back over a the past two seasons that the show has been really frustrating. this didn't address any of them really but it was a good break. I do think the show has probably one more season left in it though; or they should try to answer most of the questions that are outstanding and introduce something else.

akm (akmonday), Tuesday, 20 February 2007 20:06 (seventeen years ago) link

Did this episode feel a lot like a Star Trek ep to anyone else? If they did more crazy one-off-ish eps like this, I could actually see this show going on much longer, albeit as a Very Good Show, as opposed to The Best Show On TV, which it honestly hasn't been since season 1.

nklshs (nklshs), Tuesday, 20 February 2007 20:15 (seventeen years ago) link

I am about 16 episodes behind and have not read this thread but has anyone ever come up with a drinking game for LOST?

I'm thinking one of the challenges would be three drinks for every time someone trips while chasing someone/something in the forest.

Steve Shasta (Steve Shasta), Tuesday, 20 February 2007 21:05 (seventeen years ago) link

Dude there are so many drinking games for LOST, I've lost count (because i'm DRUKN).

- everytime Sawyer zings/gives a nickname/reads a book/looks at Kate with goo-ey eyes
- JACK FACE!
- someone trips in the forest
- TEH NUMBERS
- Flashback (if you can anticipate a flashback ie if someone's expression lingers on the camera, and there's that wooshing noise, shout "FLASHBACK!" and take two drinks)
- episode opens with someone's eye opening
- Hurley sez "Dude".

etc.

Grey's Anatomy: genuinely don't care. Boring show, pretty people, it's no ER (which, as I've said before, I think I'm the only person still watching after all these years).

Heroes: I just can't get behind it. I try to like it, I really do, but the acting is so BAD and the woman thing annoys me, and I think maybe Lost is my one and only stupid-supernatural-things-happening show.

Lost: I think it's a mark of how this once great show has drifted that even here, on the Lost thread, we are talking about other shows. sigh.

accentmonkey (accentmonkey), Wednesday, 21 February 2007 08:55 (seventeen years ago) link

but Lost is still good, i think, in spite of everything. at least we can take the piss out of it if nothing else. the talk of other shows has been pissing me off a bit even tho i played my part.

To be fair, all Lost needs to do is focus on the group a bit more rather than what's happening on the periphery. Bit too early for accusations of shark jumping just yet, especially given how awesome the last episode was.

Heroes is better than Lost. I can fall asleep during Lost and still not miss anything. You can watch all of the Heroes episodes on the NBC website w/o having to download. I didn't watch it for awhile because everyone who told me it was amazing was an asshole.

METAL ROBOTIC HEAD FACE (scarymonster), Wednesday, 21 February 2007 17:53 (seventeen years ago) link

what woman thing?

The fact that the women are comic-book cliche women, like strippers or cheerleaders and they get to be sexually victimized. Although someone did point out upthread that it's getting better. I don't know, I gave up after episode 10, when they actually appeared to save the cheerleader, although maybe they didn't. I had lost all interest at that stage.

I personally noted: remember when Jin & Eko saw "Others" walking through the jungle, barefoot and hauling a teddy bear? The tail-section children were wearing shoes, and the teddy bear was in decent shape (as opposed to jungle-Others' teddy bear, mangled and missing a leg). There are still more other Others.

The Others' purpose on the island is to film a sequel to The Wedding Crashers.

Carey (Carey), Friday, 23 February 2007 03:16 (seventeen years ago) link

remember when they talked about how there would be a big shift in one character's attitude/outlook midway thru this series? i guess they mean Jack may start feeling more sympathetic to the Others now they're moving him to the village, probably all building up to some 'kill them or us' dilemma. tho he's resisted well so far.

had Jack actually met Alex before this episode?

resumo impetus (blueski), Friday, 23 February 2007 09:59 (seventeen years ago) link

No, and in fact I don't think he's ever been around to hear Rousseau say her stolen baby's name was Alex, either.

Kate should know who exactly Alex is though, after her adventure with Claire and Rousseau @ the medical hatch.
