store-bought anzacs are so inferior! they have them in nz too.
chocolate and pecans are SO FREAKING GOOD in them! also, i've stopped making them as cookies and now i just press the dough out into a baking pan - so much easier.
i only ate ONE last night, and ONE today, i am such a good thing!!!!!!
― smoove operator, Thursday, 19 January 2012 21:37 (twelve years ago) link
p.s. raisins have no place in anzacs, estela!!!!!!!!!!!!
― smoove operator, Thursday, 19 January 2012 21:38 (twelve years ago) link
lol, i had a feeling you would disapprove.
― estela, Friday, 20 January 2012 06:25 (twelve years ago) link

i discovered some austrian schoko-bananen and i am wondering if they are anything like the legendary perky nanas i've always wanted to try. http://produkte.schlecker.com/media/articleImages/Casali-Schoko-Bananen-1058679001.jpg
even if not, they are pretty delicious. i think this bodes well for my voyage to salzburg.

legendary perky nanas
― mookieproof, Tuesday, 20 March 2012 01:40 (twelve years ago) link
the thing about perky nanas is that they don't actually taste like fake-banana flavour at all - it's a sort of a tangy sweet taste, more like pineapple
― smoove operator, Tuesday, 20 March 2012 03:04 (twelve years ago) link
i always feel guilty when nz candy gets discussed.
A------------B-------------C
i was explaining to lxy that A is where the nz candy is sold and B is my house and C is the post office and that's why there's always so much trouble with me eating all the profits instead of posting them, it would work better if things were arranged:
AC-----------B
or if i left A with a stash of candy and drove resolutely past B and went straight to C and poured it into a mailing box and sent it off and then went back to B with a virtuous heart and maybe a spare bag of pineapple lumps and a couple of toffee milk bars that i had rescued from the box at the last second.
― estela, Tuesday, 20 March 2012 12:45 (twelve years ago) link
it's a shame they don't have a post office counter right in the candy store
― lxy, Tuesday, 20 March 2012 13:38 (twelve years ago) link
i should buy a mailing box and address it and take it to the candy store and fill it and get the nice young nz girl who works at the candy store to tape it up and then make me drive me to the post office at gunpoint.

my boss just got back from nz today and brought memallowpuffshokey pokey squigglesmilk chocolate wheatensdark chocolate wheatens
― smoove operator, Wednesday, 21 March 2012 05:28 (twelve years ago) link
that's a good haul. i especially love mallowpuffs. also, i haven't tried them yet but when i was in nz i saw a mallowpuff & toffee pop collision that looked very promising.
― estela, Wednesday, 21 March 2012 12:24 (twelve years ago) link
oh yes my mum sent me a toffee pop/squiggle collision that was delicious!!

a giant raccoon just came leaping around the corner of the house! and then foraged around the yard for a little while. pretty cute and also pretty badass.
― lxy, Wednesday, 28 March 2012 04:45 (twelve years ago) link
a couple weeks ago i surprised a cute pair of raccoons when i went out for a cig - the stopped on the fence and kind of huddled together and stared at me for a bit. SO ADORABLE.

i am watching THE KILLING which is set in seattle, and this along with my all-time favourite show GREY'S ANATOMY, would - if i had not experienced the opposite in person - leave me to believe that seattle is ONLY ever grey, rainy and dim.
― smoove operator, Thursday, 29 March 2012 03:59 (twelve years ago) link
when i went to seattle i got slightly sunburned.
― estela, Thursday, 29 March 2012 04:10 (twelve years ago) link
scandalous.
when you come to new york i shall steadfastly shield you from the northern sun's cruel rays. for a beer or two, i mean.
― mookieproof, Thursday, 29 March 2012 04:18 (twelve years ago) link
aw, it's a deal.
― estela, Thursday, 29 March 2012 12:31 (twelve years ago) link
the killing is such a gloomy representation of Seattle! I know it's a dark show but it makes me sad that people don't know better would think that's what it's like! It's bc of Canada, IMO.
― tehresa, Thursday, 29 March 2012 22:33 (twelve years ago) link
it's been gray and raining all damn day; I'm going to sail a tiny boat in my basement Columbia when I get home while singing like Woodie Guthrie
― jaq, Thursday, 29 March 2012 23:06 (twelve years ago) link
i like watching gloomy things. the relentless blue skies and sunshine and lack of seasons where i live gets on my nerves sometimes, it's boring and it makes people think about their bodies too much. a lot of people here are utter bores about their bodies and their health and their fitness. also the climate makes people buy boats and then there is a risk of being invited to get trapped on one for hours on end fending off boiled prawns and being told you're no fun because you don't drink by people who also aren't any fun whether they drink or not, the hide of them.

― estela, Thursday, 29 March 2012 23:09 (twelve years ago) link
tehersa, you know people who live in seattle have been known to actively perpetuate the myth that it is always cloudy and rainy here, so people from california won't move here.
― lxy, Thursday, 29 March 2012 23:30 (twelve years ago) link
When I first moved here, people told me they dealt with it by not looking up.
― jaq, Thursday, 29 March 2012 23:36 (twelve years ago) link
And I bought an umbrella that was black on the outside and painted with blue skies and fluffy white clouds on the inside, just to spite them.
― jaq, Thursday, 29 March 2012 23:37 (twelve years ago) link
now I buy tricksy ones with lights in the end to shine on my path and blue leds in the entire handle so I look like an extra from Bladerunner (or that I have modified my light sabre)
― jaq, Thursday, 29 March 2012 23:40 (twelve years ago) link
it actually took me a couple of episodes to realise the killing was set in seattle - it looks like canada! it's very un-americany in its style.

― mookieproof, Saturday, 31 March 2012 01:58 (twelve years ago) link
i mean, except for us
iirc it was filmed in canadia! i don't mind watching gloomy things and i love rain, and i understand the keeping californians out thing, i just want my partner to want to like seattle. i am going to show him the beautiful panorama from real ilx to counter any bad impressions.
and people ARE assholes! i had so many asshole encounters (ew) today, it made me so aggro :(
